The Vallainy of Galrath
I Am A Sasquatch
I heard that this quest was very difficult, and I'm a level 16. Is it worth it?
EinValentine
No.
The mission is a complete waste of time considering the minimal experience you get. The only reason to do it is just to get it out of your roster.

It was very long and hard, but not all bad. Lots of loot along the way and a good adventure to go on. I do all the quests I come to, but the second time I play the game, quests that don't give skills will probably be skipped.

I know another very easy way to get this mission out of yout roster. Abandon it.
I Am A Sasquatch
Considering I am a warrior/ranger, i cannot kill undead as well because they dont bleed or get poisoned. i failed the quest, but i got pretty close
Spike
If you start form the temple of ages its quite a bit easery but for the 500xp it certaintly NOT worth it. it took a party of 8 lvl 20's to do it when i did it.

I never made that quest yet.. I have lots of not finished quests but i keep them for attribute refund points. I play with my attribute so it help remaxing refund points.
As spike said, starting this quest from temple of ages is a very good idea.

This whole Quest is Bullshit.... Too many high level Mobs... it's stupid... I dont' know what they were thiking... it's just a big old death trap... the wraiths hit you for 100 hp.. with 3 of them, you die in 1 hit.. that's a fair and balanced quest.....
ZennZero
Its a challege, but not too bad. I did it with just henchman leaving from the Temple of Ages (so they were lvl 15)
eA-Zaku
They seriously need to up reward. At least give some skills or something.

The reward DOES suck, it's certainly worth a lot more than that. But the quest is by no means worthless. It's very challenging, making it very satisfying to finish. If you just play the game for "reward" (basically making some number in cyberspace go up) then I guess it's worthless, but if you actually enjoy PLAYING a game, then I highly recommend this quest. Hard? You bet. But I've done it twice and one of those times was with nothing but henchmen.

Can I ask how you people are getting To the Temple Of Ages, WITHOUT doing this quest first????

EDIT: Here, maybe this thread will help.
Volarian
Yeah I'd have to say, in terms of Risk/Reward....this quest doesn't pay off like it ought to, but I agree that if you're just wanting skills or fat exp then you should pass on this. Then again I don't think I've ever seen a thread for those 1000-2000exp quests that you basically don't have to do much but kill a few mobs on your way to target NPC....so
It's a very cool & challenging quest IMO, yeah if you're not high enough level or don't equip good skills for the undead.....you will die, die, die, die, die, get REALLY pissed at the game and then probably ditch the quest altogether. Whereas if you're looking for a nice long, involved quest that makes you work with your team then this is the one. Ironically the final target isn't as hard as the mobs around him but most Kings/Presidents are sissies in comparison to the Army they command.

Too true, if you can get past the mobs just before the actual target, Galrath and his little flock of bandits are a total joke. In fact, between that and the paltry reward, I almost suspect that this was done on purpose, perhaps MEANT to be some kind of cruel joke.

Besides, if you do this quest before you hit lvl 20, you'll definitely rack up a couple-thousand XP along the way. Sure you can go farm XP any ol' time you want (and yes, yadda yadda limited point in doing so), but I've always thought it was funny that people feel this quest didn't reward them much and then mention how they were lvl 9 going in and lvl 19 when they finished ;P
Personally, I thought it was a blast -- very challenging, to be sure, but I got probably close to 2500xp out of it and some nice fat lewt as well.
Plus that area at the end with the floating island is just... well, pretty

Exactly, while you only get 500 exp for completing the quest, I think I racked up 2000 exp killing everything on the way.

I enjoyed this quest with 2 friends of mine (+5 henchies from Temple of Ages). The army at the end of the quest whooped our butts a few times before we finally strung them out. (I guess I play for the fun, not the XP; though I did level up to 19 with all the experience I got during the run.)
After getting smashed up, we had to re-think our attack plan. It made for great teamwork and adventuring. We finally finished the quest with all of us having 40+ death penalties stacked up. (Boy, it's a long hike from the rez point!)
I actually have a lot of fun when our whole group gets slaughtered. The challenge of overcoming difficulties is very rewarding. (There is also entertainment value in watching the last character alive try to escape!! )
I will say the 500xp reward and the goodies are undervalued for the quest, but I still had plenty of fun!

I did it with a PUG with level 16-20's. It's difficult but rewarding in the terms of self enjoyment. Here's my take.
Killing all the monsters along the way : 2500 xp
Grabbing the loot along the way : 1500 gold.
Being able to take the screen shot of the floating island. Priceless.

ToA is just a run (granted a long/hard one) from Bergen Hot Springs or from Fisherman's Haven. |

I need to make a stop at the temple, hopefully i can get there with a group from hot springs.
C-Tzar
There is always perpetual "lfg for ToA" spam in Hot Springs. You shouldn't have any trouble getting there.

C-Tzar do you check your PM's
Chris Wallace
I got to the Temple of Ages quite easily. The villany of Gallrath is a different story. We had a group of mostly lvl 20s and we had a large amount of trouble with this one. We ended up beating it by sneaking our fighters/rangers past all the lvl 20's (by sneaking i mean dying and then getting rezed out of aggro area) Then pulling all foes to the edge of the clif (our healer was on the bottom of the clif healing us, the three that were left) and killing them until we got gallrath. Over all it was pretty tough, im really not sure if its worth it at all, you only get 500xp but its nice to get it out of your listing.

I say go to the temple of ages and get a group and do it unless your in a big hurry that is. It is a very hard, and the reward isn't great, but the drops are pretty good and you are sure to learn a thing or two.

I actually had alot of fun with this mission. We had 3 lvl 20's in the group, and a couple lvl 15-16's (from Bergen Springs). One of the lvl 20's left the mission right before the Minotaurs. The rest of the group ran through the open field, past the Pod thingies. We were all at 60% Dp at that point, and people wanted to quit. I found a safe place for them to hide while I went and rezzed 2 people back near the mino's. Once I got those people to a safe place, I went back and aggroed some mino's and had them follow me to the lvl 20's on the hill.
After trying that a couple of times, and not succeeding, we all ran by the lvl 20's. We all died except healer, who got away without getting any attention from the lvl 20's. She then used Rebirth to get us near her. Then we dispensed of the bandits, and took out Galrath quite easily. We finished the mission with 3 people alive, all having died at least 15 times a piece.
Now THAT's dedication.

It's all a matter of dividing and conquering. If you're patient, you can separate all the mobs. We had 7 in our group, a buddy lost connection, with a lvl 19, lvl 18, lvl 16 and 4 henchies. There was a bunch of trial and error, though, especially with the undead, phantoms and wraiths. Always kill the cleric first as he'll spawn and heal the phantoms and wraiths. Always kill the horsemen first as they'll spawn a whole lot of hellhounds. We kept the minotaurs to 6 max at a time and killed them pretty painlessly. It was the lvl20 mesmers that gave us the most trouble, and that was the only time the entire team died. The lvl19 and lvl18 only died a few times combined.
Vampyre
well all you people that say it's easy.. do a group with me then.. and SHOW me....

Sure, I am still set up as a Smiting Monk, will breeze right through long as we have one decent healer if group of six, or two more if eight.
When I did it, was myself as a L19Monk( All Smiting/ Protection ) a level 14, two level 17s another 18 and I think a 16, I forget exactly. We left from the hot Springs. Ended up making it all the way to the portal to the Black Curtain when we decided to clear our DP of like 20 on average and hit the temple, while grabbing two more people.
Oh, did I forget to mention we had one guy drop just as he hit the swamp...heh.
Was a very interesting, challenging time for everyone....and I had a blast! I was killing things left and right...Monks can really strut their stuff in those areas if Smiting.

Obviously in PvP the thrill of design, competition and cooperation is what drives things, but in PvE it's good to be challenged by the game itself. Being rewarded with an arbitrary trinket is nice and all, but if you aren't actually enjoying the challenge, PvE may not really be for you.
(Yes, I'm ignoring the PvPers who feel the need to play PvE, because that's a large can of worms for other threads. =)
