Skills - Wastrel's Worry
yuna of spira
most ppl who play pvp go in with a single idea of what spells they will use and dont pay much, if any attention to the exact hexes or spells on them, so all this talk of ppl stopping casting what they would normally cast because of something like backfire is horseshit. ive used a mesmer in hoh plenty of times and even there, most ppl use a skill while having backfire, especially when they started to cast the skill b4 backfire was on them

And by the way, don't spam Worry. It makes the 3 seconds start all over again. Rather, wait the 3 seconds.

Actually WW doesn't own in any situation, ever. Ever.

Soul Barbs builds have negligable damage. If you write it down on paper, you get around 80 damage per wastrel's worry, but it's just not very effective. You can use with Feast of Corruption, but the build usually dies after killing one target.

So, basically, in the presence of Backfire, you can use WW like a flare that does a little extra damage but can only be cast once per three seconds? Considering the crappiness of flare to begin with, that tradeoff is hardly gonna catapult this into the realm of useful skills. At 12 domination, that's 159 damage in a 10 second span. 15.9 dps...umm....wow...you really owned that guy....
Plus if they for some reason get into a situation where they DO need to cast through backfire, your WW was essentially a 5-pt energy denial against yourself. Woohoo!
Essentially, you got caught up in the "combo-ness" of these skills, and this crowded out the logic centers of your brain.

Vampiric Greenhorn
i use this skill with soul barbs taking the total dmg up to 80 per cast between the longer cast hexes

I love seeing this skill used on me because it means the enemy team is either stupid or wasting a slot to make me think they're stupid. Soul barbs is mediocre in an extremely heavy hex build but with wastrels? Trashy at best.

I'm not so sure that backfire is all that effective... At the very least, they'll just take damage from the WW and that's it. What you want to do is force them to use a skill and then interrupt it. Either with Mesmer or Ranger interrupts. Mesmers can Power Spike for a lot of damage, and Power Leak for depleting their energy... etc... Rangers can probably dish out more damage with Punishing Shot and Savage Shot though... and if it's a skill you don't want to see them use again, distracting shot ftw.
Victory Gaint
anyione know wher to get this skill???
TGgold
Wastrels is for pressure...it has it's uses.
People who immediately condemn it obviously haven't left from playing thier warrior, IWAY, or cookie-cutter builds xD

Thats the whole Point people are missing. Read the name of the skill for god's sake.
Wastrel's WORRY.
If you shrug it off like it wasn't there or don't reconize it - You might be taking some damage (You KNOW you aren't fighting all the time, you have to cooldown when energy is low, or run to where the opponents are, etc). After you take that first damage you'll be watching your condition windows like a hawk, knowing whenever it comes on - you'll be pushed into using something.
Its Devious..Its like a Mind Trick - Pressuring a person into messing up. If I'm getting paranoid of a hex and am forcing myself into using skills when I might not have - I'm opening myself for mistakes or wasting skills.
Its obvious it doesn't work on everything, but most Mesmer spells dont - Mesmer spells are mostly all designed to combat a specific enemy type...You have skills that hate Spellcasters (like Backfire), skills that hate Fighter types (Like Smoothing Images), and etc etc.
This happens to prey on the minds of types that conserve their spells. Like an Elementalist.

whatnow?
It is rare that your opponent doesnt use a skill in 3 seconds.
However you can spam it with a low energy cost a quick recharge time so...
Not bad overall.

This would pwn somewhat in Arena, but I don't see you carrying much away from there.

I have been using this as a cover for Diversion and yes it is for pressure. When you have the other team in trouble and there are hexes flying around mistakes get made. Diversion covered with Wastrel's Worry and a WW reapplication can be a good combination.

WW does indeed pay off in PvE, as well. Anything with "natural resistance" is a prime target. Since giant worms, all bosses, and the guildlord in GvG all have this inherent ability, their hexes are drastically reduced in duration. All this means for WW is that it triggers faster! So, with 1/4 sec. cast and 1 sec. recharge, you can hit these targets for 68 (with 16 domination) armor ignoring damage in faster than any weapon can attack in the game (without a speed boost).

One thing many people don't realize (and after writing this jut looking back at tuper's post) is just how good this hex is against bosses. All bosses have a natural half duration on hexes. Meaning that Wastels only lasts for 1.5 seconds on a boss before doing its damage, just enough time to recast. Throw this in PvP warriors who might be using the lieutenant's helm as well.
I used this to beat glint with my mesmer, and then when I went against her with my necro, just had offering of blood and wastels spamming the whole time. Even with her crystal haze which caused all the exaustion, switched to a higher energy item, spammed and offered constantly...dead.
It doesn't seem to have as many uses in pve versus normal mobs, but can be devastating against bosses.
