Weezer_Blue
Please answe the following questions, just to please my own curiosity.
1) Were you a beta player. If your answer is "no", you can stop reading.
2) Which beta did you join at? WPE? November, December, January, February, April?
3) Do you like release or beta more?
4) When Guild Wars was finally released, was the game exactly as advertised/ as you imagined it?
5) If not, are you thinking of moving on to other games?
To answer my own questions:
1. Yes.
2. The WPE in october.
3. Beta, obviously.
4. No. I think the game is completely different.
5. Already have.

3) release, easily
4) I think they released it too quickly, there are still a lot of things that need reworking but mostly it's good
5) I'm sure they will fix a few things over time, besides I didn't plan on playing GW forever

If you've already moved on, don't post on forums... just do a search for basically everything you said... its all been said before.

No, not a beta player

Three words:
I miss beta.
I miss beta.
Corwin_Andros
1) Yes
2) March
3) Definitely Release - still need a few bugs worked tho
4) I got exactly what I thought i'd get and more. I Love the game and while I don't play it as much as I did at first, that is due to short attention span...lol I now break it up with reading which I enjoy and a few other games and the summer movie season.

4 as with all games there are things i dislike being changed. Aquiring skills now is not somthimg i care for, beta was better. Should only have to capture elites IMO
5 nope, i really like GW even with the changes.

2.) e3 2004
3.) I like them both about the same, but I like them for different reasons. (Betas: More Choices and Options. Release: No Time Constraints and More Content)
4.) Unfortunately, no.
5.) No, but I am playing other games along with Guild Wars.
Zeru
Feb bwe I think
The only part that I thought I would get that came with release was good pvp gameplay and no monthly fee. In betas community was amazingly better, pve progression was fun and experimentation rewarded rather than fedex based as of now. Aside from all the obvious pvp flaws now that weren't there then, the amosphere was just way better. But that's nobodys fault, just the general population moving in :-/
If anet fixes pvp up, I'm back. I take periodically long breaks between patches though because there's not much point otherwise.

2 January
3 Beta
4 No. Big hype for competitive PvP, but where was it/is it?
5 Ive reinstalled UT2k4 and have begun reclaiming what Ive lost from a 6
month absence.
Static
1.Yes
2.WPE
3.Release
4.It wasnt advertised as much as i thought it would be. I really thought there would be commercials for it, or a long preview in movie theatres, like for EQ2.
5.The game is great overall and i enjoy it a lot, they probably will fix some minor bugs in the future, so i dont plan on moving on to another games.

4 No. But I don't blame arenanet for wanting to make money and make the game appeal to traditional mmorpgers. Simply disappointed. (and obviously won't trust the PR claims blindly anymore.)

1. Yes.
2. WPE
3. Beta. During that time you couldn't play every single day like I can now; it really helps to get me more excited when I have to wait for something rather than having it every day.
4. Not exactly, of course. But I think it was fairly similar to what I expected it to be. I probably would've changed a few things though.
5. Probably not. I tend to stick to games for way too long once I get hooked on them, and I've been hooked on this game since WPE. I'll probably get tired of it tommorow now that I said that though.

1) Yep
2) E3 for Everyone Preview (First)
3) I'd have to say Release, since it's not going anywhere. :P
4) It wasn't. It was a more encompassing world, with a lot more to it. It's not exactly what I pictured, but, I think it's great.
5) I'm not going anywhere. :P I didn't wait this long and invest this much time just to move on. I'll fight hard to make this game everything I want it to be.

2) Er, whenever the last 2 events were
3) I like acess to PvE content, so I'd say release. Though I wish wurms would randomly eat people in towns every now and then.
4) It's far more flexible wrt character builds than I had imagined. I've come from 10 years of MUDs and other online games where you had to plan your character's entire career from initial generation, otherwise you'd end up with an increasingly unplayable character down the road. In the games I used to play, it always felt like any bit of experimentation with your build would exponentially come back to bite you in the ass.
I was a bit disappointed the original Ranger stealth line was ditched in favor of expertise, but I can see why in terms of game mechanics.
5) I will always play new games that interest me, but will continue to be loyal to old favorites as long as they are enjoyable. No monthly fee allows me to indulge in GW at my leisure.

2) March Beta
3) Hard to say, Beta was different and better in its own ways, release/updated is better in its own ways as well.
4) It fit all of my expectations, Beta and release.
5) No, and if I do move onto others, it will be because I have interest in them, but it is HIGHLY unlikely that I leave Guild Wars for good.

2) November was out of town for the October
3)Release, the Beta was JUST for testing
4)Again the Beta as a whole was a test of all the parts of the game and now all the parts are together with some extras thrown in. Does it need some tweaking, sure
5)Haven't finished it yet so I'm here for the long haul

1- Yes
2- Febuary
3- Release (Beta was a great training ground but easy, which makes sence since you only had three days)
4- It did fufil it's promices, as i imagined it- no... I was expecting them to add more content than they did
5- I did lose my extreme addiction for the game and down to a reasonable amount of time on-line... but I do play other games (Pirates is very addictive, I had forgoton how muchfrom the first time I played it back when Dinosaurs roamed the earth

4. Not exactly, but most of what they said was there.
5. I have just come back to the game after about a 1 month break.
Ryoushi
1)Uh huh.
2)I played in the WPE, but I preordered the game in December. I was not able to get a key until the March 17 BWE.
3)I think the release version is more finely tuned, but the beta had a much better community, by a longshot
4)I know one thing: after playing in WPE and then again in March it seemed like a totally diferrent game! Beta to release was also a pretty significant change.
5) Not for a while.

3) I enjoyed the beta more... but thats probably because it was my first taste of it.

4) Yes, yes it was

One quick question, if you've already moved on, why are you still here, posting stuff like this?

3) Release, but the best PvP was still the last BWE.
4) Not really, the last minute changes surprised everyone.
5) Moving? No way. I trust in ArenaNet and I know they will bring the game to the right track again.

WPE was on October 29th through 31st 2004.
WPE was already a lot different than the E3 for everyone event.
.. they still have the page of E3 for everyone up

1. Yes
2. The Alpha E3 for Everyone Event. (the First!)
3. Release
4. The game was exactly as I imagined it. Although I've seen people complain about certain aspects being different than the beta, I haven't minded playing the game both ways. The only thing I don't really like is the fact that money is very hard to come by for someone who doesn't attempt to farm it.
5. I'm not moving on so to speak. I'll continue playing this and Battlefield 2.

2) .E3 for everyone then every beta til release.
3) Release, getting my shiney dragon sword every time started to get tiring ;\
beta pvp was very good though, and that castle game.. one thing i did like though was at the end of the E3 for everyone, everyone got a summit mission to kill rotscale the bone dragon, some missions only for certain times would be nice.
