Guys, Guild Wars is unique and addicting BECAUSE it is what it is.
You remove instancing, make respawning monsters, add uncontrolled pvp....what do you have? Myth of Soma, or SWG, or whatever. We (or should I say *I*) do not want SWG. I *like* GW for what it is. Why not buying WoW, or Everquest, or Ragnarok, or whatever, if you like that kind of game? This is a different CONCEPT - you don't HAVE to like it
But please, don't try and make it like the multitude of other MMORPGs around.
That said, some more emotes could be cool, especially *interaction* like "salute X" or "hug X" or "punch X", like most MUDs. It's gonna be a bit heavy by all likelyness... but hey it would be FUN!
If anything else, I'd suggest a far bigger "city" area, not instanced, so the "feel lonely" people would be happier.
NUMBER one thing this game is lacking

I don't see how you could do a quest or mission if somebody could get there and kill the bad guys before you. Without AI ambushes waiting, there would be no drama.

I personally hate grinding nor do I want to see more grind but a big grind is what keeps people playing. Hear me out. You have a large marjority of players who play this game come from MMORPGs. they are used to big grinds. GW has 0 grind. So they burn through the pve and then start pvping and get bored and move on to other games with grind. Everyone hates grinding, even grinders, but thats what keeps them in the game is the grind. Half my guild has moved on to other games now. Why? Gw is so awesome, but its just to easy and can be completed to quick. They are bored. Im sure other people are seeing this. But after you have done PVE all there is left to do is PVP. And although PVP is fun its not a big time sink like PVE is. So the only time they come on is to pvp for a few hours then they go play other games they have to grind in. |
You hit upon an excellent and touchy subject. Yes, lots of people play some Massive Online games for great lengths of time because of "required" grind. GuildWars is different. Why is this bad?
From a manufacturer's perspective, if you have a game with a subscription fee you have an incentive to keep playing as much real time as possible in order to make the most money. This is actually one reason why I really like GuildWars. They have an incentive to make wonderful new add ons to sell (largely expansion packs, I imagine).
I don't want the people making the games I play to have a reason to make me merely waste time while playing it. I'd prefer they try to make it as much fun as possible (which will guarantee that I give them more money when they provide more fun).
Grind is a tool by which subscription based game manufacturers make more money. It is openly admitted to be despised and not fun. It has no place in GuildWars, which needs to be fun on it's own merits, not merely addictive and catering to the obsessive nature in all people.

Teamspeak and Ventrilo don't solve the issue....and as far as I'm concerned VoIP is something that this game lacks and it's a major major problem.

As an aside, I don't personally think it's a high priority to have it. The game will do fine without it. It's possible that the game would do much better with it, but maybe it matter little, too. That makes it a risky venture from ArenaNet's perspective. (Plus, they lose the cross promotion etc. with teamspeak.)
