As to the lack of outlet for spending money, you're right, there are not as many "gold sinks" present in the game as there might be, and there will no doubt be many more. We may stream some in with one of our weekly updates. We may present more in our first free Live Update, coming this summer. And certainly we will offer more in the next chapter of Guild Wars. We read player suggestions on fansite forums every day, and players have a lot of great ideas! One of my personal favorite suggestions is that we provide more options for pets, such as items you can buy them or even the ability to change their color. Another suggestion is "town clothes," so that when you head into Ascalon City or Lion's Arch you can shake off the dust of combat and don something that is decidedly not armor-like. What if you were able to purchase the ability to change hair styles and hair colors on existing characters, or even to acquire options for faces, hair styles, and hair colors that are not even available at character creation? And what about Guild Hall upgrades? Suffice it to say, there are a lot of fun features coming!

I remember discussing these on forums.

looks like they DO listen after all (not that I had any doubt)

good on you Anet. the "town cloths" option would be awesome!

i like the idea of purchasing upgrades for the Guild Hall. First thing i would buy, were it available, would be a Guild bank/storage.

I always rather assumed that they would read forums anyway, I know I would..

As for the accusations of not listening .. well we cant know they are listening if they dont tell us :S

The frustrating thing about A.net is that the feedback on our ideas is minimal.

We need more posts like this to be honest, where did you find this quote Paladin? am I looking in the wrong places for official feedback? or did she speak with you directly?

Wait, so you expect them to post in every thread saying "This is good/bad"? Of course they don't comment 99% of ideas, that would be complete waste of time.

er... no, I never said anything like what you presume.

There are lots of game companies out there.. each have an active involvment in their community.. they all give a certain amount of feedback to let their community know that they are listening.

The feedback from A.net.. compared to other companies is.. just like I said.. 'minimal'

This is why there are so many complaints of 'Not listening'... (why else?)

your reply belongs to a thread where someone is complaining of A.net not listening. There are plenty to read.. in every forum, go and be presumtious and sarcastic to them pls.

hopefully this does not mean that they intend to restrict access to editing one's character via the "character creation screen" after creation, and instead replace that screen with a less-featured version

i wanna be able to change my body size and everything else too after creation. not just hair styles and faces.

Well, christ on a stick, let me get back to farming so I can hopefully change my char's clothes in town or hair style! =\ That's hardly a gold sink worth playing for. How about:

1) Purchase skill points (100k a point?)
2) Purchase temporary enchantments (15 min timers)
3) Purchase weapon mods (providing the unlock)
4) Purchase runes (providing the unlock)
5) Purchase refund points (not really necessary, but hey sometimes you need em right away)

While it would be nice if they put additional resistances on higher tier armor, I can understand keeping them for looks only to preserve game balance. However, if someone spends up to 5 times more for a set of armor, would it really hurt to add say +7 to a second resistance? or another 5 energy? 15 health? something!

There is a real need for gold sinks in the game, and minor cosmetic alterations are not going to cut it. Pets that can be upgraded much like a henchman in D2 would be nice and all, but that only affects one class.

someone should suggest the ability to upload custom images for the capes....or ArenaNet could put together a small image editor ingame so that the capes aren't ALL THE SAME. I refuse to join a guild because the freakin capes are the dumbest idea i've ever seen in my entire life of gaming...why would I spent 15K gold on nice looking armor only to have it covered by some silly looking cape.....

Averon: you wouldn't buy new clothes, I would. Others would.

Purchasing in-game aids would mean forcing players to farm to keep being competitive on PvP, which in turn would do what it has done for oh-so-many MMORPG: you either play 6 hours a day or you're out of luck (others have tons of money/eq/stuff, you don't, they run you over and not even notice).

That would spell the end of MY GW experience, that's for sure. At 30, I don't have that much time to spend, as much as I would like to - GW is great because it does not force me to grind. It does not _force_ me to farm. I can play as much as I want, no more, no less, and still enter any Arena and play my cards.

Skill points, well that's another story. Refund points, that I would like to see. Besides that, I know nothing of gold sinks and I could care less. Sure, if there are, I'll use them. But please don't turn THIS game into yey-another-farming-grinding game, there's plenty out there.

My not even remotely humble opinion

Oooh great they finally got the message. These recommendations were made a long long time ago probably around the january BWE. Problems in the economy and money sinks was adressed and I remember being that discussion that went on for pages.

You fail to grasp that most of the problems that are present in the game now have been identified a while back in many player forums. Sure you could say they're listnening to you... now that they are starting to lose players. I'm not blaming anyone but it feels like GW was pushed to get a release date on it and now there's a severe lack of content.

So do they listen ? only when there's a problem. I don't know if that qualifies

Interesting!

I never suspected that people would feel so strongly about capes.. but I suppose you have a very valid point! and thinking about it.. we had a friend who refused to join our guild because he didnt like our cape design! (selfish git)

I personally love to have a cape.. and would love the idea of uploading your own design, aint gona happen though.. its too hard to moderate.

However they DO need... LOOOAADDSSS more cape designs and styles..

I would gladly sink my gold.. and the Guilds gold into a totally unique cape that everyone would recognise

"the freakin capes are the dumbest idea i've ever seen in my entire life of gaming"

A Bit harsh that mate.. I know its only your opinion, which your entitled to.. but if you were to say that to the hundreds of thousands of 'City of Heroes' fans.. they would probably say your gaming life isnt very long. :S

it'd be nice to see other stuff as well...I'm not sure how large the skinning/design population of this community is, but I'd like to see the ability to add specific things for your guild. Like armor designs. Everyone in your guild gets a special set of gloves or whatever...or a thigh brace....or an arm band or something. something DIFFERENT. I see 1900000 of the same characters everywhere I go...there is NO distinction.

I read somewhere (maybe another forum, the GW homepage Im not sure) but it was something from anet. It stated that you will not be able to create your own guild cape designs, or submit them to be added to the game (think about it, if every guild had there own cape, and every new guild created (even solos) had there own cape design, the amount of downloading you would do is phenomonal).

but they did mention something about adding new ones throughout the life of the game, and even having contests to create new cape designs.

let me see, I've now been playing Guildwars for nearly 4 weeks, I've entered PvP about a total of 5 times. I've still got quests to do.
The only game I've ever played that took me longer than this to do everything is Morrowind.

SEVERELY LACKING IN CONTENT? are you insane? mental? look at 90% of games released today. go onto gamespot.com and listen to some video reviews. you will notice something similar about all games. they last between 8-20 hours. and your done.

now, you COULD finish the story of GW in that time frame, but every quest, every mission, explore every area? without rushing and missing the whole point? I dont think so. THEN theres the PvP to contend with.

sure, we would all love a game that never ends, a game that always has something new, where you could walk west forever, never reaching a dead end or coming back to where you started. WAKE UP! this aint going to happen. GW has a CRAPLOAD of content!

lacking in content. you people make me sad.
type /age right downt he number of hours, then go play doom 3 for that amount of time for the same lengths as your GW sessions take. then you'll realise exactly what there is to do in GW and how MUCH content it has.

Cool.

something else that would shake things up a bit with capes is different ideas as in :

Cape (we have thats now, no that not my idea :P )
Tunic
Banner (you know, like a knight carrying a banner)
shoudler dressing
shield (for the shield, when you dont equip a shield, you get the cape, equip the shield, and the cape goes again. also shield would need to be shown in town, on your back perhaps)

and like, when you join a guild, you get the cape as standard, but can go to the cape designer dude and pay to change your particular emblem to one of the above.
you would still have the guild design, but you might have it as a tunic, your guild leader with have it as a banner, and one of your officers carry a shield with the design on it

Woo.... sounds like some interesting stuff. I just hope at the end of the day, they just don't make items and make it either something someone will exploit or hand it out like candy. If that's the case it will be the same all over.

As far as lacking in content I don't thats so much the case other than people rush through the game as it seems pretty easy to skip what you don't like to get to the rewards that come later. Seems to be the trend of alot of MMOs to make the game quick, where I thought the whole point was something that was take your time.

You got to understand that people play the game differently. Some will rush their PvE char to region so they can farm. And when farming is nerfed, the game is lacking in content to them. Other only play PvP. And when they fail in PvP, they blame it on the PvP content.

I'll first stick with the Off-topic part of the thread then try and come back to the op's topic.

I spend most if not all of my in-game time worring about what the other player or monster that I'm fighting is doing rather than twirl around and admire my self or someone else. I was curious and did try it once and I guess they did look kinda good but with all of my blood flying through the air it was hard to see and got harder when I was lying on the ground...

I tend to hold unpopular commonsensical opinions like the one the OP had and will reinforce that with my next statement. I do beleive that ANet does listen and is responsive to the needs, desires and complaints surrounding their game by the people that play it. Some will say that I'm full of it and others might agree with me but bottom line is that they HAVE made updates and fixes to things that people have had issues with and thats good. Have they fixed ALL the issues no and to have that expectation is just unreasonable. Just for one minute consider everything they have to do on a daily basis, first and foremost they have to make money and keep the product flowing they have to be able to pay the bills so all of the rest can EVEN happen, second they have to work on the "next chapter". Third they have to make sure that all the current server and streaming infrastructure is running and having NO problems. Fourth they have to monitor any and all complaints that come directly to them including ALL the research needed to get to a solution. Fifth they have to create and implement any of the "upgrades" the have finished, then get them out to the end users. Finally in their "spare" time they cruise the MANY forums trying to keep up with the "community" and their desires for changes, tweaks and fixes to issues in the game in order to then go back and repeat #5.
So just because some of YOU have the free time to spend 40 hours a week tearing through the game to find its weaknesses and then expect quick fixes don't get all huffy with ANet, they have alot on the plate. Really, has any game come out and no issues in the first THREE months of release. Give it time, it'll come around and if it doesn't for you then maybe ANet isn't the problem...

content means the entire game, not just a small part. the game has plenty of content.

if you think it doesnt have enough farming areas, the game isnt lacking content. its lacking the amount of farming spots you desire. this is how I see it, and others will see differently. perhaps I exploded a bit, but I am just sick of people saying that this game lacks content. there is so much to do and its so varied.

-------------------

ON TOPIC

how about some PvE, team-only items/weapons?

such as a big banner/flag that one member carries in battle, and shoves into the ground at a battle, giving all team members near the flag some type of bonus (health regen, or energy regen, more adrenalin, faster attack, higher max energy, weakness on enemies. etc etc)

once-per-mission use items. with things like all skills become available, full energy, cure all conditions, cure all hex's that type of thing.

To some people, if they can't farm anymore or can't buy a victory in PvP, then they blame it on the game's content.
