It is irony. First you look at GW 2003 and see how crappy it was. Crappy colors, textures, models, etc. You realize that GW2005 looks almost ten times better. You click on the 2nd picture to compare. What do you see? A bunch of items, like one would use as an auction. You were expecting a picture that showed some graphics off, didn't you? But you see a bunch of loot, what this game is all about, what you have made the game into.

It wasn't about Graphics either though. So that's pretty invalid.

Well, every MMO i've ever played ends up the same way. Loot loot loot. I dont honestly think its possible to break that mold...at least not easily. If you've played any other MMO's besides this one i'd think you'd be used to it by now.

It's really not worth getting upset over IMO.

An early poster got it pretty much. You should have listened to him.

GW is what you make it. If you want a friendly community to stand around and chat with, make a guild.

Obviously the masses dont want that, since thats what we have been driven into.

Maybe what he's getting at is that in 2003, GW had a nice community going despite the ugly graphics, which is represented by the happy-looking environment and cheerful characters who seem to be going about their daily business with not a care in the world.

Whereas now, it's more focused around suffering and anguish. The exp scroll represents the suffering required to grind through the exp needed for skill point acquisition, while the scorched lodestones represent the burden of having to go through the scorchingly back-breaking labor required to get all the items needed (like for example the 242 wood planks).
The rest of those items represent the frustrating occurence of finding non-perfect modifiers and having to farm even more in order to find the best mods.

Or maybe I'm reading too much into it
It's pretty late and I probably had a little too much to drink.

Yes you are reading into it too much, and I had a little too much to drink too, but you provided me some humor in your post, unlike the REST OF YOU. I actually took a random image I could find of an auction and put it there.

E3 2003 people played a new game. A game they played for fun, since it was a 2 day event. They were interested in it and played it just for fun.. not for profit, farming, PVP hoarding, making fun of noobs, racism, L33T talk, scamming, bots, etc.

I can't believe.. something like this.. WAS RUINED!

Nothing is perfect, nor will it ever be, for it is in the nature of humans to destroy. I'm sorry you feel this game is ruined for you.

And i'll leave it at that.

There are still people that play it for fun, and with some effort you can find enough of them to make a guild. That's why this game is better than MMOs. While it still follows the same rut of all the crap that players obsess over, it provides the ability to get out of that rut via guilds. Sure, any time you go to cities you'll be bombarded by idiocy, but then again... you can always turn off chat

Trading is an integral part of every online massive multiplayer game (which this is, regardless of the label and definitions). You can't abolish it and it would be wrong to abolish it since trading is the draw and the actual game for many many people. There are loads that would rather trade than do missions and quests... nothing wrong with that, it's simply their style.

Its how the majority play these games. Some of it stems from the single player games where having the best items, most gold makes the game easier.
No true in GW once you ascend I must add. I have seen the samething happen to nearly every single RP mod for NWN, the only time it doesn't is if you have a small group and a closed private server.
