How "tolerant" are people in the high-level areas?
beamerxl
I'm talking Hall of Heroes, Fissure, Underworld, etc. I haven't quite finished the missions yet, I'm at Thunderhead Keep, and I'm far from rich, but I want to get out and see what these areas are like. Are people going to get all mad at me and call me a newb just because I don't have 15k armor or a perfected skillset yet? If I have to deal with people's grief, then it's not worth it, I'll just wait till I'm stronger.
theclam
People don't really care what your skillset is, or if you have 15k armor, as long as you be nice and do your job. If you're at Thunderhead Keep, then HoH, FoW, and UW are perfectly acceptable places to go.
Brizi
Yea, Im not there yet but when I get there I doubt that i will have my 15k armor either, with my necro I mean. I think that the high lvl areas are better because there are some people that will actually answer questions that you have and not be jerks about it.
Ketendra
Alot of people dont even get the 15k armor just because they are trying to save up for the underworld armor, so dont worry about that.
The type of people you get in a group varies. I always do pick up groups, and most of the time the people are very nice, with the occasional jerk. I just put that jerk on my list of people to never group with again and find someone else.

I have three people on my ignore list for good reason. They were arrogant, spamming useless stuff, swearing, insulting everyone is the group... really annoying. Generally, if you listen to what your leader says, no one will get angry at you.
Naturally you will probably run into those morons who insult the dye you used on your armour... some people...

or the ones who say being a ranger and/or haveing a pet is useless and then all die before you/he does.

No one demands the 15k set, that is just nonsense. But what i expect from my team is at least the armor from Droknars Forge when going into Underworld or Fissure of Woe. Nothing, except for flaming, dropy my healing priority on you faster then seeing you take unusual high damage for a long time.
Serious people, no droknar armor, no Underworld/Fissure. Countless are the times a team failed by now due to other leechers who think "well let's go to underworld to level fast to 20". You are heavily hampering your team if you are taking uber damage.

I dont see the need of the 15k armour i rather spend my money on a rare mod for my staff
kirkmping
well, some people that go to UW or FoW will give advice to arrange your skills the best possible way. As long as you follow instructions (eg. not agroing, talking to ghosts and getting the wrong missions) you will do fine. If you arent sure what to do, ask.
Garrett
They are usually tolerant if you do your "job" as precieved by them. One thing that may get you in trouble with the monks is if you are a caster/warr.
This is really what was a hinderance when I was monk, since their hp drops like a rock AND they are trying to melee.

Keep in mind I need to cast my spells too. So I've got to take a few seconds of heat before I can run out of the way.
Of course, only I would really know for sure the damage I would be taking. All the monk would see is my life bar going down fast. And with 60AL in the fissure, I wouldn't expect much less of the monsters.

So...let me get this right: I have a great build on a Me/Mo. She wears good armor with lots of runes added, has a great rare staff and all that but because she doesn't wear Drokkar's armor or UW armor she wouldn't be welcome in the group? Interesting and kind of snobbish, don't you think?
Being a competent...actually, better than competent player, I don't get hit. I make it a point to be pretty careful about NOT getting hit or taking much damage. I can heal myself -and- assist pretty well with healing others as well as cast the best mesmer skills.
While I've sort of come to a halt---got caught up building my Mo/R---, my Me/Mo is in the latter stages of the game. I hope that I don't run into people who won't allow me into their groups just because I'm not sporting the 'best' armor. When I have the cash, I suppose I'll buy it but until then, I hope you're not telling me she's useless.

Two things to remember:
1) Mobs die fastest when everyone assists on the same target. Saves a great deal of healing energy, too.
2) As long as the mobs are not in your agro circle, they will not attack you.

*frowns* Guess I'd better go out and start earning some money instead of spending it all equipping my other characters and buying stuff.
Enigmatics
Well I opted to buy sup vigors instead of 15k armor. Call me vein. Droknars armor is normal armor, you mean *citadel* armor, that's the 15k set. As for UW armor, it costs around 800k for the unprepared.
Ketendra
Keep in mind - when people mention the Droknar armor - its only the 1.5k stuff no the 15k stuff. Do what I did and just save your crafting materials and get one piece at a time, no one said you need to get the whole set at once
Hell Marauder
yea, do monk a favor and have best armor (highest armor lvl, not necessarily the most expensive) before going there. Actually, it's better to wait until you ascend and receive those 30 attribute points before you go. And if you worry about people's attitudes, try go to UW/Fissure with your guildies, they are the most friendly and informative people in the game.
Feli
Yes, i am speaking about the 1.5 k Droknars Armor, else i'd mention Marhans Grotto or the Granite Citadel. However, there is a damn huge difference between a 60 AL Armor and a 30 AL Armor. That is not snobbish or anything, you are wasting my monks energy faster then a elemental deciding to tank an Ataxe without protective spirit or any other heavy protection spell on him.
You don't believe it? Call me snobbish then, i don't care. But if you got no Droknar Armor you don't even belong into the Underworld or the Fissure.
Let's make an example:
My Monk is mostly wearing the censor set, which translates into 40 Energy.
Given a party with Droknars Armor i can cast healing seed on one of the tanks and Vigorous Spirits on the others and have them happy for quite some time.
Let's take two tanks for example. The place is the fissure of woe. I spent 20 Mana and still have a lot to go with Peace and Harmony active. One Shadow Beast goes for the caster standing in the aggro circle (the white ring on YOUR radar) , the caster gets bashed on but it is nothing i can't handle. The hits are around 30-50. A small healing breeze and an orison of healing now and then will just keep the elementalist alive long enough to drop the aggro back on the tank. All is fine and i still have energy to go.
Now take the modern Temple of Ages Group, consisting of atleast 4 People who blatantly lied about their armor when you asked them at the beginning. There is the "great" tank with that lowbie Armor from Ascalon. Dude, i cast healing seed on him, expecting him to soak some damage when instead he REALLY soaks some damage. Enough of it to force me into constant healing rather then leaving him alone. Then that Shadow Beast goes for the elemental and lands some hits. The elementalist is taking extremely huge damage (more then normal, trust me... i know what kind of damage is normal to take and what kind of damage just results from lowbie armor) so a healing breeze and an orison just won't do... so i use heal other which heals for a 190+32. However by the time the cooldown time lowered enough the elementalist alrleady has taken far MORE damage then those 190+32 points. I need to cast another heal other followed up by an orison of healing, with a protective spirit inbetween...
In the meantime my Energy hits 0 and the tank with the lowbie armor takes serious damage still. No energy to heal and the second tank with droknar armor takes damage too. Now just make a guess who i will heal asap? The one soaking my energy or the one that is able to do his job?
Don't get me wrong... i do not care if your armor has 51 or 60 AL, that is not THAT much of a difference...
But i seriously don't want you in my team if your AL is 30 or even less. Especially not when you are the "tank". Sure a monk can work around damage for a while, but it is soaking precious energy... energy you just won't regenerate fast enough, even with peace and harmony.

7.5K buys you a Droknar's armor set. Not that much of a stretch. Salvage out the good runes from your earlier armor set and re-apply.
RTSFirebat
I use a Ranger/Elementalist for PvP and often when the game begins people moan that they got a ranger (me) and not a warrior.
Often I find this insulting. Mainly to the fact that often have warrior who b-line towards me to try and take me down.
I use Apply Posion and pin down, mixed with Whiring Defence and beat the pests to death, often followed by talk of being called a cheat and all sort.
Personally I have a complete 1.5K Druid Armor and some good spells which I use in the Shiverpeaks Arena, and yes it is kind of cheating, but I did run to Draknar's Forge and Lions Arch so its my right to use them

Also high end armor (AL 60) is available in the desert from collectors, and a 57 AL set from a crafter just outside of Sanctum Cay. Besides once you're in the Droknar's area generating a plat and a half isn't overly difficult if you're willing to gather and sell everything you can. So there are alternatives. Oh and 51 is available in the jungles from collectors not too hard to get either.
Fye Duron
The reason Rangers are looked down on is because there are way too many bad ones out there. Rangers require more skill then most other classes. Lucky for us Trap Rangers are in high demand for UW and FoW.
Sir Skullcrasher
wow, yesterday i met some good people who are level 19 and 20, i got stuck with the frost gate quests, and happened to run into this level 19 person. I asked for help and i got it!
I guess it really depends on people mood and how they act in the game cuz so far i have met high level character who is willing to help me.

Mostly people in FOW/UW/HOH don't see you anyway, and if you're really scared, just go sit in a place noone will find you Haha
And why should I care? As long as you have a 60AL armor, you got a perfect armor anyway.. You can't see if someone is good in the game just by his armor anyway, just that he plays alot
So don't be afraid, buy the 60AL Droknar's Forge armor

Really if you're going to the UW, the AL of your non-warrior characters shouldn't really matter IMO. As long as everyone is far back when the warrior aggros the group, and the others stay just close enough to cast their spells it's all good.
I go to the UW with characters regardless if they're level 20, have the 1.5k/15k armour, or if they've never even been before. You can run the UW with 3 people, so a group of 8 with one or two unprepared people isn't going to make that big a deal. Personally I prefer with the newbies to the area aggro a bunch of monsters so half my skills aren't going to waste when I try to tank. Sitting around waiting for rangers to set traps for one ataxe... that is just foolish.

By the time you get to THK you should already have max armor and decent equipment (max damage or energy and spell recharge specs etc. with double mods). The thing that is really going to make a difference is your skill bar. If you haven't captured any elite skills yet you need to do that before you go to UW or FoW. Since you're at THK now you're only one mission away from Perdition Rock which is one the the richest elite fields in the game. Take the time to capture a few extra skills before you move on and you will be glad for it.

yippie another 3 year old thread with a poster who does not look at dates.

Lol - I spent at least 5 minutes trying to work out what the joke behind the link in RTSFirebat's sig was - before I noticed the dates!

I wouldn't take a run from a lvl11 either. Once seen a lvl10 droks runner, he only had sprint lol
quickmonty
You don't 'run' from marketplace to kaineng. It's a stroll in the park that a lvl1 with no armor could do.

Thread necromancy ftw.
Numa Pompilius
The high end areas... were they ever nice?
To the best of my recollection THK and Thirsty River were called the "boob trap" and the "sand trap" because all the really bad players got stuck there and spent their time insulting anyone who wouldn't join their gogogogogoomgnoob team in yet another failed attempt.
There was however really a time when there were exploration teams being launched into FoW and UW, and any class could find a team. I guess that's what is referred to.

Brings back memories, people being nice in game. Makes me think of the horrible skillbars that where used back then too....wait a sec, most are skill used now
