I've been scammed very badly, what to do ?
Joerii
Hey there fine people of the GW Guru forum !
A good gaming buddy of mine trusted me well enough to go ahead and sell the Sigil that he bought for only 40 k a few days agao. I found someone who was willing to pay me 60 k for it ( the price at the trader was 62k at the time ), and my buddy and I where going to share the profit. Finally our hours and hours of buying low and selling high where gonna pay off !
I closed the deal, and sold the Sigil for 60k, and ran back to my buddy to share the wealth, happy as a kid on chirstmas with my 20 k profit. I clicked on my iventore to admire the bling bling, and guess what ? No bling bling.
I checked the chatlog , and found out what happened. The guy stole our sigil by changing the 60k to 60 GOLD a split second before i clicked accept. So fast that i didn't even notice until he logged off.
Do you guys know if there is ANY way i can get justice ? The worst part is, that the sigil belonged to the brother of my buddy, and he got his but kicked pretty badly and he's not playing GW anymore because of this. Lost 60 k, and worse, I lost a friend.
I added the screenshot that proves the scam. Note the irony of the free char carving heheh

ouch is all i have to say.

Dude, that's horrible....I've got to try that sometime!
lt.Hudgins
use that screen shot and report it to Guild wars. Good Luck on the situation man.

Always look twice before you trade...
He couldn't change the amonut without you noticing, if he modified his trade you'd have to submit your offer again before you could accept it.

RandomEngy
Yeah, be careful. As Ice said, they can't change it "a split second beforehand". He just put in 60 gold and you were not cautious enough to check before you hit "accept". Yes, I know what he did was wrong and all, but hopefully you'll take a lesson away from this.
stumpy
if he modifies his trade ... you unfortunately do not have to re-submit it ... if you had pressed submit then all you have to do is hit accept, no matter how many times he re-submits it. But yes, always dopuble check. I had a guy who three times modified his offer then hit accept with nothing in a trade on a sword ... 3 times ... I almost called him out and embarassed his azz in front of the community ... also some people are really dim not to double triple check this stuff ... I mean ... poeple will try to make it the free way ... I hate em ... but they will ... just be careful out there.
Ishamael Sedai
similar although not has bad has happened to me with someone switching. you always have to double check right before you hit accept. take your time and don't make any big trade fast. there are scammers out there.
Ishamael Sedai
also i wouldn't consider someone a friend if he is going to quite being a friend over 60k in video game gold.
Joerii
You are all right, I should have checked AGAIN. What are the chances, you think, that A-net will refund me that sigil ? I sent an email with that screenshot to [email protected]....
I met that friend in-game, btw. So i guess it wasn't a real friend but a very good gaming buddy nontheless.... will mis him.

60k isnt that big a deal, at least you learned your lesson to always double check trades. once my friend ided a sup vigor in an armor, and since i >HAD< good luck with salvaging out runes he let me take it to salvage, the piece of junk didnt salvage out, man was i pissed, this was when they were expensive, like at 90k, were still friends though, its only gold in a game, nothing too big.
Sereng Amaranth
salvaging runes from dropped armor is now 100%....but you still have a chance to lose it from your own armor
and yeah, that dude needs to be scammed

My wife had one last night that was trying to buy a sword off of her for 7k. In her window it said 7 gold. The other side kept saying that in her window it said 7 plat, but that her trade window was bugged.
However, it makes no sence. if your trade window is bugged, you'd see 7 gold, the other would see the right amount. Just a new scam to get stuff for almost nothing.

I'd say the screenie is all the proof you're going to need. Send it in and report back on what happens.
But, as IRL: BUYER BEWARE!

Anet is not going to give you back your Sigil. It's not their duty to refund scam victims.
(For all they know, this other guy is your friend, and you're trying to get a free Sigil from them.)
However- if you send that in, they'll take note that this guy is scamming. If they've had complaints before, or if they get more, they will take action against him. But no refund for you.

Reminds me of the old Runescape days, there were so many "Trust Games" and offer switches going on, the chances your subject would even get noticed were slim. One day A guy scammed someone with a program, he used a program to quick switch the offer after the change period. He got reported by 3 people atleast but went unnoticed.
So the community in about 4 forums spread a behind the schenes unnoticed plan. Next thing you know serveral forums had a bunch of posts that made him seem like he was a well known scammer from the past. As you would have imagined he had to fill his ignore list pretty fast.
But this one dude was smart enough to have a scammer to scammer conversation. Convinced the first scammer to download a keylogger. The second scammer was a friend of the guy who got scammed but decided not to give the Party Hat back.
However he overlooked the fact that he knew his password, and stole the party hat back. Then the two freinds split, the scammer lost his account, and that doesnt measure up to getting your party hat back.
Its things like that, that just piss me off. Part of the reason I quit that game. But now its happining to this game.
When someone scams, its bound to leave NO-ONE happy.

WhaHuh? What was your buddy doing giving you his brother's stuff to sell, and how does that make it his?
Also, what is That Guy's brother doing kicking his ass (besides simply fulfilling the general duties of brother, that is) when he clearly must have allowed your buddy to access his account.. unless he had simply given the sigil to said buddy, in which case, double WTF?
Large parts of this story don't make sense to me..

Is it just me or does the attached screencap in the original post look like a conversation with yourself?
Or did you change a name to protect the innocent (or guilty)?

Ummm, no offense, but the trading style (with the exception of the 100k limit) is excellent in this game. I would say that you have made an error on your part, and it sucks to have that happen, but that's what it is.
Always double check the items before hitting accept. They can't change them without modifying, and you will have to accept again.

If you notice when you PM people, it only shows their name.
And also notice that it covers up the posters name by only saying that "You traded" and "Leet Speach traded you"

EDIT: I'm utterly confused about whose name shows where so I'll just crawl over into my corner and watch with popcorn.
Magick Catastroph
no the "guilty" is Leet Speach.
It hardly ever shows your own name.
"blue" is something from leet "green" is what he was saying to leet.

I say we all spam this scammer ingame.
SisterMercy
OK, I stand corrected.
dbgtboy
hmmmmmm, he doesnt really sound like a scammer to me, he mightve got confused which was plat and which was gold since they are next to eachother when trading, i was also confused when they first made it like that, try pming him and asking for the money.

but pls have the basic logic
ur case ISNT SCAM,
ur friend trust ur luck, he cant blame anyone even if u salvaged junk out
unless u claimed fail but u actually salvaged the sup vigor out (this is scam)
u are like saying sth like "" i dun care 90k, am i look so cool ? If my friend scam me <90k, we are still friend !! Not if >90k !!! ""
u mean Joerii should still consider Leet Speach a friend if Joerii dosent care 60k ?
no pls

I personally think of this as a case of buyer beware. Always always always always always check the other person's boxes. There's no reason to accept something if you see that it's wrong. With a transaction that big, you should check, double check, and triple check before you accept.
Eonwe
Oh well

i know Game Money isnt a big deal
but if a guy still scammed u for this meaningless Game Money
i think this guy shouldnt be a friend of mine

1- (repeating what everyone else has said) - always double check ESPECIALLY after the offer is modified.
2- the guy's name is leet speech (forgive my prejudice... but I've yet to be done wrong by it)
3- I am truly sorry for your loss. Prior to getting our guild hall, my max fundage achieved was about 13 plat, 60 plat would devastate me. But (also echoing what's already been said) you get burned once and you learn.

Dude you've been a member of these forums since May, didn't you pick anything up from all the "I got scammed" posts by now? It kills me to see people fall for this crap, over and over again.

I doubt that most people spend a huge amount of time reading the forums. I can guarantee that they spend LESS time using the search button. I'm guilty of that myself since I'm rather new.
Drakron
Its easy to ignore parts of the trade window ...
But the Charr carving sould have give it away he was trying something funny, he altered the trade to include the carving and alter the amount of gold.
Tecnicaly its not a scam because the price was acepted by both in the trade windom, those people simply prey on the other lack of atention to details.

I almost gave someone 60 plat by accident once. They were asking for someone to loan them 60 gp for their last armor piece and I typed 60 in the plat section by mistake. Luckily I checked before accepting and corrected it. Yep the other guy spotted the mistake and said I almost gave him 60 plat. *whoa* that was close.

I never understand the point of platinum and gold, I would rather just have it say "35,392 gold" or whatever instead of "35 platinum 392 gold." IMO, it just makes things more confusing and allows tricks like these to be much easier.

sorry to see that happen to you but Anet will not help you. all your screen shot shows is that you traded two items for 60 gold. nothing wrong with that at all when it comes right down to it.

Eh...when buying my sigil two idiots tried to scam me.
The first one tried to convince me that an Eldrich Sextant gets you the warrior hall. I bombarded him with a fleet of every spammer in Ascalon City.
The next one tried to sell me a family sigil. This time, I had my entire guild spam him.
Of course, I'm not an idiot, and didn't fall for either.
But back to your case. That really sucks. IDK, but whenever I'm dealing with a large sum of money, anything bigger than 1k, I keep my mouse hoovered over cancel, so that I always remember to check whatever their trade item is.
