/signed! I just dropped a couple of plat trying out new armor pieces on my new Mesmer. They don't look like how you think they will from the little icon at the armorer!

Just use the wiki, that'll show you how every armor in the game looks on every gender of every profession. The reason this was implemented for dyes is because there are just about infinity combinations you can make.
MithranArkanere
Yeah. The 'preview' panel should be available directly from the inventory and crafting panels, not inly by using dyes.
That way you could try anything without the need of a dye.

Yeah, since I was mixing and matching pieces from different sets, and I couldn't remember what the different leggings looked like from one to the other, let alone boots!
Having the ability to see it on my toon first would have been a big help! (And then there's the problem that dye on different sets behaves differently. Getting a similar shade of purple on the coat and the leggings was a bit of a trial, too! I came close, but I understand that they are supposed to reflect different materials, and so may not match in color exactly.)

With a fitting room, you'll be a ble to buy some dyes, bring them to the armory, and test various colors to see if any combination looks good, then buy the item or not depending on if you see something you like or not.

my characters have tons of expensive armors that they wore for like 1 day just to say "ok i got it, i got to wear it... "
with the 1k armors it is not as bad since they come in cheap non max versions, but those elite sets.. ugh
even if wiki has a great picture, it would be awesome to see combos + clipping BEFORE buying those 15k pieces...

I really like these ideas. Someone can always go to Wiki to see a sample of the armor, but who all has a character that looks exactly like the model? And though there is a dye guide here on Guru, several armor sets are still missing. So I /sign both of these.

People that spend time editing the wiki spends less time gathering cash to buy armors.

I'm an armour girl at heart and I always fear that the expensive set I get next will look weird on my character. This will help that.

Just rolled up a monk character, and there's no way to have any idea how any of the tattoo-based armors look until you buy it and put it on! (Let alone, how will it dye!) YOu can close out and look at wiki - I know - but it still doesn't give you an idea how it will look on your character - especially when you mix-and-match pieces.
Please give us an armor preview window!!

I like the idea, but are we trying to keep ANet busy? Im not gonna ramble about "they got better things to do!" because satisfying the customers is number one. I'm also not sure when this thread ended, but they implemented the Dye preview system now. You can see what your CURRENT armor looks like before you Dye it. Yes, you have to have a black (or desired color) dye in your inventory.
As far as seeing the armor first, go to the unofficial guild wiki!
http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
under the armor section, they have screens of all the armor in the game for all the professions.

My apologies. It occurred to me that people might not like (or really have the ability) to alt+tab out of game. I signed it before, and still do sign it. Pamlef, you bring up a good point about clipping issues. Never ran across them, but they could be there. Personally I don't mind not having it, but putting it in is NOT a stupid idea, its a good idea!

have two 15k Mesmer outfits that I can not stand. I dye my Mesmer outfits White+Red+Silver. First one was Elite Noble, picture on wiki looked good, only after I tried to dye it did I realize that the green/gold part doesn’t dye and stays that green color. The second time was elite kur that has the green part that will not change colors.

Hey, the preview panel is there.
Why not putting two buttons two show it?
- One in the Inventory Equiped items panel.
- One in each Equippable item crafter or collector.
Hit the inventory button and the panel appears, and yu can drop any item there.
Hit the button in the Crafter, and the selected item is shown equipped.
And you can use dyes to check the colors out in both.

The problem is is that both of these things serve as gold sinks to slow economic growth.
