The future of updates on gw looks bleak
internopsp
Remember the good old days when they updated almost daily?
Then they went down to major updates on wednesdays?
Now they seem to be going down to major updates EVERY OTHER wednesday......
I am almost positive tommorow we will have no update and just have a little note saying whatever they will be updating NEXT WEEK.
It's only a matter of time before we dont even get a note anymore and wont recieve updates for months at a time...........
I don't understand why they cant constantly post even 15 minutes a day and tell us what there plans are...... If i was working there i would constantly be on forums like these looking for ideas and answering questions. They surely must have a costumer consumer rep so why cant he/she keep us up to date.

Well they might not be as into guild wars as they use to be, companies move on to other games and stuff.....so i was expecting this so im not surprised

Perhaps less bugs = less updates? Just a thought.

Uh huh, and you come to the conclusion about every other Wednesday because...one week was skipped. Yeah, one single week. That's like flipping a coin once and saying that it will always end up heads if you flip it again.
And...daily updates? Sure, maybe bug/exploit fixes on non-Wednesdays, but otherwise not.

Well many of them -are- former Blizzard employees. Those of us who are veterans of the Diablo series know well how quickly games are abandoned as new ideas pop up on the horizon for a company.
That said, don't read too much into one week's skippage.
Enjoy the ride as long as AN lets it go on!

Yes, because running around to all the developers and asking what they are working on that minute so it can be posted every 15 is a wonderful use of limited resources

This thread is nothing but blatant bitching by someone who doesn;t understand anything about what he speaks about.
Updates are fewer now because this isn't beta anymore and there are fewer critical bugs to be corrected and tweaks to be made.
There was no update 2 weeks ago because they were working on a massive PvP update with the faction system and obviously such an undertaking wasn't doable in 1 week.
So far Anet has done a good job keeping up with the boards and atleast addressing a good number of issues in their patches. They've been far more attentive then Verent, SoE, or Blizzard have been to their communities for their games.
Give it a rest, we already have the PvPers bitching like clockwork every week.

Gaile and Alex are on all the time telling us about future updates and whatnot.
Yes the future of Guild Wars looks very bleak with the addition of 2 new areas, observer mode, and eventual guild hall updates. (and that's just this summer/fall)
Hoyt
Seems to me that it is a good thing that there is less and less to fix.
Updates are evolving the way they should & becoming mostly preventative maintenance and less bug oriented.
Think of it as a bonsai tree- it requires a lot of attention and a lot of work to establish, but as it matures, there is less and less you need to do for it.
Lets hope the programmers energies are going into the expansion of GW.
Does that make sense? I’m kind of wired/tired, so I’m babbling a lot.

Sir Skullcrasher
here a update that everyone would like, put in Gwen as a henchmen so you can take her to quests or do missions with you. And give her heal area to make it more fun!
Jaythen Tyradel
They have mentioned a while back about a large update this summer with a new area for people to explore. Perhaps they are working on that right now and will try to add other updates/quests/patches at that time?
I am willing to wait to see what happens before I make a decision on what ANET is/isnt doing.

Plus the more often they have to update, does not mean , new content etc, but means they have found more bugs to fix, as they only update 1x per week as a rule of thumb, it means that the game is virtually bug free and major issues in game stability have all but been eliminated. Which in anyones books is a good thing.
Sekkira
Well the only reason there weren't any updates for two weeks is because the last one needed a little more time before it was implemented. Would you have preffered a half implemented pvp rewards system that was full of bugs?
Also the big update thingy is getting even closer and I can see them putting their all into it.
You also got to remember another thing, daily updates mean there's a lot wrong with the game that needs to be fixed. Weekly updates mean it's more stable and less buggy. Fortnightly updates means it's pretty solid. Monthly updates would mean they'd just need to focus on more content.
I can see the most you'll see between updates eventually will be monthly just for purely content to keep people interested. The game is pretty damn balanced and there really is hardly a need for nerfs anymore or balancing things better. Then on top of the monthly updates you'll see expansions every few months.
Yes eventually ArenaNet will move on to another game or games and GW will go stagnant and eventually probably shut down. But that wont be for many years.

I rather a few bugs and great content than waiting a week just so a couple of 1337 hackers cant figure out how to make a few extra bucks.
99% of the gw are morons and could never figure out how to hack a game
For the 1% that do? O well its 1% who cares if they get 150,000 gold from a buggy update. I much rather have the update and have fun instead of waiting.

I too think it's great that there are fewer daily and/or weekly updates. That means that, instead of nickel and diming themselves on minor tweaks and bug fixes, they can actually get to content development, adding new areas, skill improvements, item creation and the like.
ZigZag Rollmeister
Outside of what is planned for this summer's new areas, I have yet to hear the GW devs promise weekly, bi-weekly, or any time frame for regular updates.
There's no monthly fee. As far as I'm concerned, any content updates we get is total gravy, and I consider myself lucky to play a game where the devs respond so quickly to bug fixes and gameplay patches.....something which other non-monthly payment games usually struggle with.

Usually "great content" takes more than a week to implement, well ... I should say implement correctly.
Mister Pie
To be honest, I can't think of any other game that updates weekly. Besides, if they kept up the weekly updating, what would there be to do, aside from bug fixes? Do you expect the game to keep on growing forever?
Aniewiel
Raise your hand if you've ever played -any- game where patches took less than a month or two to "finalize"! Raise your hand if you've ever played a game where developers actually -listen- to their players!
What? No hands? AN is a gem among developers.
I rest my case.

Dude, have you played many other online rpgs? The GW devs are great, they give us weekly updates , and you say thats not enough? Other than bug fixes, which they fix within a day, major updates shouldnt come ALL the time. As it is, these devs are the most involved ive ever experienced, they listen, do weekly updates, which is something they dont have to do at all, and they give us free content (or will soon). I love updates as much as the next guy, but come on, even monthly is great. I use to play UO where the updates came every 6 months or so, SWG, where updates hardly ever came (while i played), MU where there are no updates (practically).
I think the future of GW updates is looking fantastic

Man, some people are just too spoiled. You update game every week and later they demand you do it everyday. Not only that, they also want you to give details of your work and "great content".
Why, that's just *so* easy. Why stop at one update daily? Maybe 2? And in the weekend, one every hour, how does that sound?

stumpy
hmmm ... daily updates? never happened ... bug fixes eploits immediately after release happen with every game ... in beat there was what ... 1 weekend a month so getting streaming updates every wednesday seems like a reasonably well balanced system. Letting you know what going on? ... have you read any of the interviews? and of the boards?
actually anet has done a fantastic job these opening months ... remember that gw is in its birth ... like a baby or a bonsai ... they are taking strategic and well thought out planning to implement things off the bat. Security is one of the top things that they never bypass to get shovel out some content. Thats why I like this game soo much. With their support team already swamped by the thousands that get ripped off trying to get free money back, their programmers duely working on current blossiming fixes/patches, the summer update, the next chapter ... their pr/customer relations working with many magazines, websites, guilds, to give them all attention ... including extra attention in guru? ... seems reasonable to EXPECT daily updates lol ... they are doing a great job of meeting the ever going demands we put on them ...

If things keep going the way they're going, when the next chapter comes around... Well lets just say they already have my $90 on top of the money I paid for the game initially.
Aniewiel
Agreed, Sekkira. The game is great fun and I'm already sold, sight unseen.

Yah, seriously, did any other game get near weekly updates...
Heck, think about those non-online games... You never get updates and you still play those (I think)

Anyone who moans about not getting an update every week is an idiot. period.
Any and every online RPG takes at least 1-3 months to release an update, none of them have any extra content (saved for expansions exclusively) and on top of the 1-3 month wait, remember that you pay monthly fees.
GW is the most stable and balanced online RPG/MMO/PvP/whatever you call it game ever. On top of that it has no monthly fees. On top of that it is almost entirely bug free. On top of that you are getting updates not once in 3 months but once in 2 weeks.
Anyone who cries about not getting an update every 7 days or even 14 days should get some grey cells. Youre not very far away from swinging from trees.

I won't say that the original poster is an 'idiot' or any other derrogatory name/aspersion. Name calling only encourages people to keep their mouths shut. He asked a question and, while it may have been a bit...simplistic, it doesn't warrant name calling. Believe it or not, there are people out there who don't spend all day reading the Prima Guide or reading GW forums all over the 'net. One can make a point without being condescending.

who said nothing changed? have you NOT been privy to the weekly updates? quite simply, if the fixing is working, and there is les to fix, then we will need less updates. so... once its "not broken" you can stop fixing.

ArenaNet was founded on the basis that Guild Wars is the only game they will ever build. Every other game they will ever move on to will be an expansion to Guild Wars. Period. They don't do anything else, and they have no plans to do anything else.
As to emitting updates on a regular schedule... well, there were just flat out more things that needed to be addressed at first. Now... there are fewer absolute 'show-stoppers', and the changes they are making need to be run by the testers first.
So the actual work that ArenaNet is doing to improve Guild Wars hasn't slowed down at all—but the goodies they're coming up with are larger and more complicated than they used to be.

Glad someone finally got it right. Thanks for that, Siran.
All you people who are bitching about updates need to step back and think about what developing a game actually takes. Think about just the Faction system that they just put in, that you people apparently think should have taken a week instead of the two weeks, seeing as you're mad about the skipped week. First off, think about the idea base. All updates require the ideas to start it off, and the ideas need to be planned out to every detail. So, that takes a decent amount of time before you even start working on the update. Then, think about each and every small implementation. They had to edit the code for every single city, every single arena, and the entire PvP section of the game. They also had to add in completely new NPCs which had to be designed, etc. Plus, they had to program in the actual Faction system to get it to work properly. Most of you people complaining don't realize how much this work takes in the first place because none of you have probably even looked at advanced game code, but this takes a lot of work. Then you think about the fact that they wouldn't even have anywhere near all their staff working on this... and you expect in a week? That's absurd. Then you also consider how many other things were in that update... and damn, you people are just plain spoiled. ArenaNet is doing a damn fine job, and they should be commended, not bitched at.
Edit: Algren Cole, yes they expect to be successful, and they will. Seeing as each Chapter is like an entire game, they're going to be the same as any other game designing company, except that all of their games are going to be designed on the same theme. Seeing as Guild Wars is doing so well thus far, I personally expect the company to be very successful, and as long as the ideas keep coming they could probably keep Guild Wars up for a long, long time.
