Something Great About GW That I Never Even Noticed
DarrenJasper
I can't even think of any other game, MMO or otherwise, that has this.
There are no stupid, annoying, self-important logos of every company involved in the project that you have to click through in the beginning. Double click the shortcut, login screen BANG. Until now the sheer greatness of this streamlined process had only registered with me on a subconscious level.
Thanks ANet. Every game should have this.

You know, Darren, that is a GREAT observation! I never gave that any thought but you are absolutely right!
Kudos once again to Anet!

I noticed short load times more. Compared to other games, starting GW is fast, less than a minute(unless you're slow typing person and have problems with you password ) and you're in(and *much* shorter if you're just re-login. But yeah, that's thanks to lack of logos as well.
ComMan
Haha, you're right! So true. Valve could learn from that.

RUNESCAPE HAS NO LOGOS in game? RUNESCAPE THE BEST GAME SINCE SUCK GAMES

Will the source code from GW ever be released? NO. WILL THERE BE MODS? NO! IS HL worth it? YES!

Wow, you're right.
Funny, I've been playing sine the first beta event too. Always sighed everytime I started EQ or WoW, takes forever to get to character selecet...
Nice touch Anet.

The short load/exit times are great for me, since I log in and out for short periods several times a day.
Definitely a smart move on Anet's part.

WoW starts up fast for me. Exiting is just one extra click.

Heh, it's true! I hadn't noticed either, but when I stop and think, you're right, there's no whooosh... nVidia.... or EA Games... Challenge .. Everything.
It makes for a pleasant change.
Vilaptca, passwords in GW can only be 15 characters long. I know this because my password was going to be more, but it got stopped at 15 characters.

I personally can't think of another game where you click through ads or other company logos to log in... Mind enlightening me?

I never really put thought into the fact that this game starts up in like 3 seconds (when i dont have to install and patches) Anet really is great, and i love the quick close down too, some of my other games take 2-3 minutes just to shut down... Thanks Anet
Ikinsey
I never noticed anything like that on starcraft, but its not really Anet, more NCsoft I'd say if you played Lineage II its the same thing: nearly instant load into the log in screen.
Rig Jarlsson
Hey, that's actually a really good observation. Good call Darren.
Also, it took me about twice as long to realize that I could just hit escape and skip the valve logos and whatnot as it took me to beat HL2. It was still only about 3 days, but still... -_-

Nope, I log in everyday with 17. Not sure how or why? I've had this account since beta, so maybe the 15 limit was added later.
Divinitys Creature
The whole game loading, patching, streaming and networking mechanics of this game is brilliant.
Tactical-Dillusions
They probably just forgot to add it. I can see a patch coming now, rofl.

Seriously tho'... fast launch and fast shutdown! What more do you need??
arnansnow
The only speed problem I have with guild wars, is when there is a major update, I can't logon for around an hour after the patch.

Try typing your password, minus the last 2 letters, see if it accepts it. If it does, you've been typing 2 extra letters this whole time ^_^

You type "-password=[password here]" at the end of 'Target' on your shortcut propreties and your in in less than 10 seconds. At least, if you have only one account.

Wow, that's awesome Drakharran, insecure, but awesome none the less.

this is insecure. your password is right there in the shortcut properties.

Startup screen nothing; EQ2 actually implements commercial products from within the game - pizzahut is already there; and so too will be SOE's own "farm site" where players can purchase platinum, items and accounts for real world money...
I forgot, why did I cancel my account with them again?

Not only a positive post-a positive THREAD from DarrenJasper? That means the world can change!!
Apart from that, hell yes, I'm totally with the OP on this one. I was a bit surprised at first, I remember I thought "huh, why don't they show their logo? Are they a second hand company?".
Kudos to Anet once more.
It seems to me that most games are strictly designed by developers and never really get in touch with the player, not to mention the casual player. Guild Wars seems designed by experienced players for other players.

Yeah, GW's initial load time, between maps load time, and even the UNLOAD time are fast! why is fast unload time important?
SJG
The funny thing about logos and intros is that there is usually some way of switching them off with a command line argument. Even the developers - who you might have thought would get a nice, warm, fuzzy feeling from seeing their logo up in lights - get sick of them and put in a way to switch them off.

Actually I was visited by the spirit of Guild Wars future. He said if I didn't knock it off and stop making girls cry he would break my Spoons of the World collection.
Family Draconis
you're right, that is amazing. i noticed it too, but i just took it for granted.
thank you, Guild Wars, for making our lives less commercial.

This game was released in 2000. It takes several seconds for the screen to go black. Several seconds before I get the smiling Cheshire Cat on the screen. Several more seconds watching the flashy "EA Games" logo on the screen. Several more seconds watching the "Rogue Entertainment" stained glass looking logo to go away. And then finally getting the main options screen.
And none of it cancellable. It's not so much that the 15 or so seconds you are forced to watch is that much of an effort. It really isn't. But watching the same damn thing over and over again each Time you load up the game without possibility of interruption can get annoying. Especially when Guild Wars loads in under 3 seconds and another 3 seconds to get into the game after clicking on a character.

Try EverQuest.
patch screen -> agreement screen -> log in screen -> random "pre-order the new expension NOW or your characters will burn in hell!!!1!" pop-up -> server select screen -> character select -> mintue-long loading screen
almost all of the above screens have SoE or EQ logo on it just in case you forget what game you are loading up since it takes so long...
