12v12 needs to be reworked

Random arenas was probably the first form of pvp that i fell in love with as a PVE player. The way this random fight falls into place, bringing all PVP and PVE hardcore players, making them more like a balanced form to compete, just adds fun to it. MMs sure rock here, but i as an ele, was playing MM killer build, if mm was alone, either he could take me, or i would take MM. I loved changing my skill set for the very first time in fire attribute to play and enjoyed it by far more than i enjoy PVE stuff. for the first time, i could pick on rangers at time, or assasins, or warriors, or casters by my self, knowing my skill set was good for whom, and whom should i run away with my tail between my legs.
I hope ANET keeps this form for the actual faction and let us casual pvpers and hardire pve players some pvp fun without interacting with hardcore pvp people yelling at us.
Arcane Echo > Echo > Flare > Echo > Flare > Flare > Flare > Flare to /Signers.
Firestorms my /NO SIGN over ANET

Also don't even worry about EoE. Unless your squad of 4 is setup to do a minor EoE bomb to set off a larger scale one it won't work. I've tried it...While it was funny as hell only maybe half of our team got killed off by it and that was only once.
P.S. 52 Damage EoE it was

Maybe not all the time--but I've noticed that, because of some strange "dogpile" mentality, when a fight happens, PRACTICALLY EVERYONE heads toward the fight. Every time this happened, I'd vent to my guildies and signal them to come with me, and we'd ninja off to take a control point. |
Plus, there's just something satisfying about Leading the Charge, being one of those two, three guys bolting out in front to snare the first few control points and slamming headlong into the mass Kurzick rush. The beauty of it...me standing back with my One Woman Bloodstorm, scattering Bleeding-inflicting Barrages everywhere from the safety of the lee side of a few Warriors or up on a bridge, untouched and unnoticed as I ripped apart three guys at once...

I have seen groups of four effectively hold spots. Although four cannot defeat twelve, the number of kills they can gain in relation to a massing, idiotic opponent is very impressive.
But something needs to be implemented to help organize commands besides the radar. Say if A.net divided the team into four sections, each one would have a different color ping instead of the standard red? That would seriously help the confusion when mappers are zipping back and forth.

I loved 12v12, and it should definitely stay in the FPE incarnation (and maybe even punish leavers somehow). It's a much-needed change from CA for timekilling and you'll actually be helping your alliance while doing this PvP.
Keep it, Anet.
Keep it, Anet.

Yup...12v12 was the most fun i've had in GW without ts in a long time :P
Now maybe when its released i'll bother to play it while on ts

Have ANET setup a program that counts how many times someone clicks the leave party button in those arenas and give them some sort of penalty. They can tell the difference between a lost connection and a click to leave party.

Another lurker here who justs wants to add their support for the existing 12vs12 format and many of the posts here notably Ensign's and LaserLight's. Though RL interfered with my being able to try out 12vs12 last weekend, this thread has gotten me very excited about GW again. I occasionally play some CA from time to time, watched the championships on Observer mode, but agree that outside of that, there really is no PvP for me to play most of the time. Since I'm not in a large, active PvP guild, and I don't want to play prebuilds and/or get stomped in HA, I've been playing other games until Factions.
I made some posts on here last year saying the game needed more options for casual gamers, and despite those threads dying, it seems like someone at ArenaNet had the same idea. I completely agree with the argument that this game needs to attract casual players to continue thriving. If they keep finding creative alternatives to unplayable institutions like HA I will keep buying chapters for the foreseable future.

.. a few days ago, while doing the Ascalon missions with some guildies, a friend on Ventrilo popped into our channel and said, "Hey, if y'all are doing any PVP, come and get me 'cause I'd like to join."
I replied that I would, but I knew that it wouldn't be happening.
And then I paused for a moment and analyzed this--why wouldn't it be happening?
'cause there's no PVP format right now where a bunch of friends can't simply hop in at the drop of a dime and have a good time--without having lots of practice, good organization, and a well-thought build.
Not even well-thought, hell.
HA would need us to cookie-cut.
Just saying. ;(*
The awesome thing about the 12v12 Factions pvp was that friends could do just that. I could buddy up with some friends and we could jump right in and NOT have to worry about power guilds or FOTMs or anything like that.
Just, "Hey, wanna go pvp?"
"Sure!"
And that's it.

To be honest, I've never found TA to be all that welcoming. To be, TA isn't something where me and a bunch of friends can simply hop in and have fun. I've done it a few times, and while things were.. all right, it didn't really catch me.
I'll try it again. Maybe I'm simply remembering it wrong.
Nothing beats the 12v12 format, though. I so hope Factions keeps it random--or, at the very least, makes a separate arena with the same format. It's so nice to be able to participate in large-scale PVP without having to be hardcore. ;P

I hope we can use faction for items instead of gold. That would completely stop the farmers.

~ Recent Gaile talk suggests that 12v12 will stay as it was. 4 x 3.

Alright there it is, I got an answer from her just now.
(ignore the unrelated stuff, she answered three of my questions and their all in their so I could use one jpeg)

Awsome we finally have an answer.
I too asked about the hench and pet AI fixes. She hinted maybe chapter 3.
Seems like all the questions I asked the answer was chapter 3.

I still kind of have trouble figuring out why the max for 12v12 is 4...
*flame-guard on!*
I can explain why: I don't know how many people noticed, but if you hit Enter Mission with less than 4, you still go in and the mission fills up and everything... the reason I keep hearing from Ms. Gray and others is that it is too hard to fill up a party of 12. But if it's too hard, then why bother making the whole party? Just make a party of however many you want and let the rest fill up randomly. If you can only find 4, then go with 4 and the other 8 can come in from wherever.
EDIT: Hm, never mind, I just re-read Linksus's posted quotes, and saw in the log of today's visit from Ms. Gray that a party of less than 4 will probably not be able to enter alliance battles, that feature was more of a FPE thing.

I believe the "random filling of spots" feature would stay.
It would be like the current Team Arenas, if you click "Enter Mission" with 2 players in your team, and another team of 2 players click "Enter Mission", there is a chance that these 2 teams of 2 players will be merged as one team.
Hence, for this "random filling of spots" feature to actually work, there need to be a lot of non-4 player teams clicking "Enter Mission".
Unless, ANET decides to implement a "Your Team is too small" feature.
Then the "random filling of spots" feature will cease to function.

Gaile Gray has said, The Random filling of Spots will not Stay.
She said it was her understanding you MUST have a FULL party of 4 to hit Enter Misssion, Just like you MUST have a full party of 8 to do so in GvG.

They have to find the team first, and if teams are (if what Gaile says is correct) to be formed of required four, then..

its in the dev forum in the latest gaile chat log i think..
pity that u wont be able to just jump in like in the FPE but its better then some of the suggestions in here of havin a full team of 12.. personally this wont affect me that much because i started always partying up jus so i knew that certain characters c would be around heres hoping its a misunderstanding on her part and the FPE version will be intact

ANet claims to want casual gamer appeal, but much of what they code and do seems to contradict.

the thing I didn't like was the fact that I thought that necros were too overpowered, as they could just constantly summon minions, as there was so many people playing, therefore so many corpses to exploit.

Its going to settle after people figure out how to beat it. There is a reason MM are not that great in pvp.
EoE kills MMs and will be more previlant.

Too many Bone Fiends giving you trouble?
"Shields Up!" ftw
Suddenly, Bone Fiends only deal 0 damage to you.
About 4 player compulsary to click "Enter Mission", we will have to wait and see.
Only 24 more days to go.
Well, we can always hope that players will not be too picky when forming PUG teams in the Alliance Battles.

In any event, I think its a good idea. Teams of 4 are NOT hard to form and just like in TA vs RA theres less likely to be leavers. Plus it makes the game more organised as your likely to get a good balance of players.

Anyway, I agree that teams of four are going to give order but I personally don't want the Hell Hole that is TA to come over to 12v12. The ability to just jump in would not be that problematic, especially since leavers will "probably" be punished for leaving... so the whole "FOR KURZ" or "FORLUXONS!!11" will not last too long.

Many will strive to create specific team make-ups and some may not find it so easy to get into groups due to either their chosen profession or they do not wish to play a specific cookie cutter build. I don't play a mesmer, but I have heard a few talking about difficulty getting into groups. I also know most of the groups I am in rarely have a mesmer in it.
Personally I am all for choices. If you want to create your team of four before hitting the enter mission button than I say good for you. However those who would rather hit the button without seeking out a team I feel should have that choice as well.
And if you really think that it will stop leavers I think you are very wrong. It will take alot more than that to stop leavers. Your comparison of TA vs RA doesn't hold water. Those battle types are very quickly over with whereas Alliance battles go on for quite a lot longer.
twicky_kid
If they keep it completely random like it is then leavers are going to ruin the format.
With a team of 4 that you had to cordinate to make you are less likely to ragequit. If you can get into a TA group with in 2 minutes you should be able to do the same here.

The joys of having bad things happen no matter what. I say side with the casual gamer and deal with the quitters.
