Platemail - worst armor in the game now?
Rhuobhe
The factions weekend shows Dreadnaughts Armor as below:
And Prophecies platemail's stats are:
I dont know if its a bug or if they plan on upgrading plate at a later time, but as it stands there is no reason why anyone should use platemail.
I would feel bad if things didnt change and I had a set of 15K plate - would be a complete waste of money.

Wow, very interesting. Good thing I was planning on upgrading my 1.5k plate with new looking armor come factions anyway. I will be curious to see if it stays this way. Also, wonder what the Luxon equivalent is, and if it's the same way.
Savio
From the armors I can see ingame, they're most likely planning on upgrading the old armors. Being as Gladiator's + Knight's boots was the best option hands down right now, it at least tries to change the situation. There needs to be more use in Platemail or Knight's, though; otherwise +health and +energy armors will win out.
Fluffyx
Any armor besides Glads was pretty much inferior to begin with. You have more energy and close to or higher damage reduction using the global on knights/ascalon type boots. But I do hope they balance it out, this was something I feared before the betas. That they would make the prophecies armor useless in the new game. Lets hope it doesnt stay.
Bleidd
It would be nice but in all honesty it doesn't matter to me. My Warrior shall remain in full plate armour. It makes every victory that much sweeter when you don't have every statistical advantage going for you.

where can you get that dreanoughts kurzick?

Yeah, the problem they have there if they don't change it is imbalance. People who have factions have a distinct advantage over people who only have prophecies, which goes against what ArenaNet have preached about expansions since before release of the game.
The Flash
correct me if im wrong...so faction is an expansion and faction will have different world and you cant join faction and prophecy character right?

Direct quote from the second link:
Question
Will I remain competitive if I do not buy the expansion packs? Will I be able to compete with and against others if I have only some of the Guild Wars chapters?
Answer
Yes. Purchasing the newer chapters of Guild Wars will not make you strictly more powerful. You will have access to many more strategic options, due to the expanding nature of the skills, abilities, items and professions that you enjoy with each chapter. It would be similar to building a deck in Magic: The Gathering®: The more cards you own, the more different playing decks that you can choose from to use in the game. When you buy the chapters of Guild Wars, you will acquire a larger collection of skills and abilities from which to build your skill set, but you will not gain more power. So if you purchase a chapter and your friend does not, you will still be able to play competitively against and with one another.
The difference in armour there if not changed suggests otherwise of what's bolded.
stickyballs
This is going off-topic. But more choices or options, gives you an advantage.
Sekkira
it doesn't make you distinctly more powerful though.
stickyballs
I went a little overboard w/ what I said. But I *never* said distinctly more powerful.

Now? Platemail has always been trash. The OP makes just as much sense if you forget about factions entirely and just look at chapter 1 armors.
That said, the new armors in the expansion looking like that is encouraging. It means they might go back and revamp the original armors, to give us some actual, legitimate choices when talking to that armorsmith.
Peace,

Sekkira
No, you didn't. I was just stating that *broken record* +5 advantage in this armour without any drawback is imbalanced.

Elementalist Armour is also imbalanced - The armour crafter in House Zu Heltzer crafts armours which give +10 against elemental damage, and another +10 against a specific element, which is better than what we currently get as an Elementalist. (+15 against a specific element only.)
JiggyFly
I hope they do change some of the original armors like Platemail, because I do believe Gail said in her last lttle meeting that she thought it was unfair that one piece of armor does the same as the whole set. Which to me looks like the ever popular Knights/Ascalon + Gladitors combo will be out the window. Which turns the tables to the new armors even more.
Vanquisher
Wasn't Platemail horrible anyway?
Sekkira
If you don't need the energy, platemail is better than Gladiators.
dont feel no pain
*crys over my 15k platemail*

If armor swapping isnt nerfed and all Kurzick and Luxons armors have the same skin, I suspect PvE Toons used in PvP will rebuy their armor in factions along with a few additional sets to get a slight unknown armor advanatge.
So any armor your wearing now you might want to consider trading in for new armor in chapter 2.

Sekkira
Armour swapping for a warrior isn't really that much of an issue, or to put it in better terms, pretty useless. What matters for a PvE warrior is the helmet swapping. Heavy DP, you might wanna switch to a minor, facing hexes, HoD helm, DP + hexes, HoD minor helm.

Don't cry, Platemail's stats will be changed to match Dreadnaught's... Book it. Platemail = Dreadnaught's just like Tiger's Fury = Bestial Fury. Think of it as the double skills, this is Factions version of Platemail (and Prophecies future version).

I have seen this in past games where players try to hold the gaming company to higher standards than an average business. Did you expect them to just put out an exact copy of prophecies and name it factions? Sorry, but if they want to create a demand for factions they have to give us reasons to buy it, i.e. new armors/skins/maps/skills etc. I'm sure the goal is to try and make the advantages of factions just enough that players want to buy it, but not so much that the non-buyers riot. I think they did well.
P.S. You guys treat every statement made by anyone at a-net like it is the FED chairman.

galdiator: 80+20+7 energy
The math itself shows that gladiator armor is better plus having higher energy means I can use an energy attack build. As soon as I meet an opponent I have skill attacks included skill interupts, no geomancer attacks. On top of wich in PvE I don't have the charge mentality, I want to attack on full energy too, adrenlaline is back up to my energy.
knights boots, put on a shield stance and absorbtion rune, I see a lot of zeros when I am being hit.

95 vs. physical, 85 vs. elemental
the energy far outweighs an extra 5 armor vs. elemental :P
+10 is a little better, but then I still think Gladiator's (+energy), or Berserker's (+health), will be chosen over it. then if your strength is 13+ Platemail gets owned again by Sentinels.

it's called power creep, and it happens in every game, even the vaunted m:tg that they refer to.

This thread isn't supposed to be a Glad's vs. Platemail thread. All hardcore PvPers know that Glad's is superior and your arguments validate the fact that Plate will be buffed as seen in Dreadnought's. That being said, even if we do see this buff it could be argued that Glad's is STILL better. All the more reason to do it I say.

I just hope that when they update it that it also updates the sets being worn.
Last time they altered the armors it only changed the ones you could buy, not the ones people already had. It's the reason I switched from plate to Knights. I had no steel on me for a new suit of plate, so I just used all my spare iron for Knights.
Pissed me off quite a bit that I was expected to cough up the dough and mats for a whole other set of plate if I wanted the new improved stats.

platemail is town clothes imho - almost any other armor has better stats than platemail... but as long as we dont have town clothes it'll be crafted alot i guess

For the people who dont have factions, they can use platemail instead.
