I've heard reports that, upon launch, Alliance battles will no longer consist of your team of 4 and two other randomly chosen teams--but rather.. well.. a full team consisting of people from your Alliance.

Is this true?

And, if so, can we sign a petition somewhere to shoot this down?

I love the mechanics as they are now. A full set of twelve means Alliance battles will be as bogged down and predictable as HoH.
Erm, can anyone verify this? Surely this must not be true.

gvg for real fights-

alliance battles are just the new random arenas, really. no skill req, nothing learned, but you have fun. i guess that's what's important.

GvG, but as Im not part of a huge PvP(GvG)-guild, I don't do them too often.

Alliance battles are fun randomly, and will be fun when organized.
I think it will later only be possible to go into Alliance Battles organized:

Quote:
What are alliances and how do they work in Guild Wars Factions?

Guilds can join together to form guild alliances. Allied guilds share Alliance chat and can visit each other’s guild halls. Alliances can also gain control of towns and outposts in Cantha by participating in Alliance Battles, which give them the ability to trigger events and gain access to exclusive areas.
Quote:
What is a faction? Should I join one?

Alliances belong to one of two warring factions, the Kurzick or the Luxon, and being a member of an alliance allows participation in alliance battles. Victory in an alliance battle earns faction points, and members can spend their points individually or they can add them to the alliance bank, which will enable the alliance to acquire control of towns and outposts. The outcome of these battles influences the progress of the war between the two factions. The current battle lines, and indications of the control of cities and towns, are always visible on the world map. Guild membership in Guild Wars Factions is extremely appealing and interesting for both cooperative and PvP players. By joining an alliance and achieving success with Alliance Battles, your guild gains control of high-level towns. With that control, guild members acquire access to elite cooperative content. In Factions, the strongest guilds most likely will not be made up exclusively of PvP or cooperative players. The strongest guilds will be a combination of both types of players, and such a combination will result in benefits for all members.
The bold parts make me think alliance battles will be organized in the future (though I hope random is still possible), this was taken from the official factions FAQ at www.guildwars.com

Heroes' Ascent

AvA (alliance battles) is fun in its own way. Make a wammo, pair up with another wammo and as long as you two are a team in the midst of all the chaos, you have a pretty good chances of getting the win for your team, just because you can run around and cap NPC-guarded points.

GVG by far

Alliance Battles will be better when/if we can choose the full 12 - until then there's no strategy without voice communication and with dolyak signet warriors

HA is a bit of fun I guess, but it's stupid

My favorite is still GvG. It's the highest-end PvP in Guild Wars.

Alliance Battles and Heroes' Ascent are my next favorite, because they're more casual than GvG yet can still benefit from a good guild team.

Team Arenas is fun for a bit, but straight-up 4v4 matches don't interest me much.

Last comes Random Arenas, which is just a simple way to farm Balthazar faction.

I'd have to say the Alliance battles. Something about them really fills a certain element that is otherwise lacking in the other forms of PvP. What would be good would be both organized and the form we were shown over the weekend for Alliance Battles, much like TA and RA.

I think its a close match between GvG and FvF for me.

GvG i think is more intense and focused fighting while the FvF is much more free flowing and dynamic. Me and my guildies did a lot of FvF this weekend and it was fun. The tendency of the battles to switch and flow back and forth was fun to watch. The battles tend to have a lot of stragglers (capture sneakers) and 1 on 1 match ups, which i think is very intense.

the only problems i see are: Alliance griefers (Luxon fighting for Kurzick and simply suiciding and vice versa) and the massive LAG that happens sometimes.

You people, it's like apples and oranges. You pretty much can't compare them, because they offer the player two totally different styles of play. For instance GvG gives you more of a "Hoorah We Won" kind of feeling, and cordination is a must wich people like, it also gives a sence of dominance. Yet sadly most of the time it takes a while to set up and even practice.

Now 12v12 is sort of randomized and it really doesn't matter if you win or loose, But it does offer a different tactical mind-set.

So like I sayed Apples and Oranges= GvG and !2V!2

P.S. I haven't spent anytime in that god-forsaken HA in the longest time so I don't consider that in my opinion

The most _fun_ PvP mode was Snowball Arena, without a doubt.

My _favorite_ PvP mode: Heroes' Ascent. I am playing 99% of all my PvP there.

TA gets boring quickly, RA (which I loved when GW started) is just a haven for junk talkers and ragequitters these days and GvG is a little bit too serious for my taste. Also, GvG really lacks an incentive to even start for other than the Top 100 guilds (can anyone tell me why my guild should even bother to fight for Rank 800-something on the ladder?). Maybe it will change one day, but right now I can't see myself becoming a GvG addict.

I think I am going to like AvA, too - but I will wait for the final version to comment on that.

Snowball- This is seriously the best one of them all. Bring back yellow snow!

AvA- another favorite! There's a lot of great ideas to improve this. I just hope anet take up some of those suggestions

TA and RA- only because its easy to group

GvG- '3 2 1 spike!' well, so far that all my guild does

HA- Havent touched that in months

did anyone here have a AvA fight were all 24 players stayed? I didn't and it's fun but still would like more people to stick together, i saw more rage quitters in AvA in two days then i have seen in HA in a month.

My favorites are GvG and HA
