Yep, it's nice with the hatin'... Not. I wish the story ended with the Lux and the Kuz being friends... But it won't, cuz this whole game is based on violence and death.

What....? Why would there be fighting if there was not a war of some sort? Or at least, a conflict?

Yea this is where I thought the thread would go actually - unless suiciding is handled this will be rather lame. There are other skills now too in the bag that can also serve as some kinds of grief technique, though certainly occupying a slot and doing nothing but knocking yourself off is most obvious.

It does seem odd in some ways -
In the beginning hey we need these peoples help, both monks off to enlist the other sides aid/bring them together/we have a bigger, greater evil.
However in play instead of avert a civil war or redirect its energies it seems we're aligning to help thrash, possibly even genocide the other side.
And *then* deal with the problem.
Obviously this was just the FPE - whether they choose to (after a lot of thrashing) bring them together or have the winner fight the menace (either regularly alla access to mission fight the lich or there's a goal/date in the sand where one side will ultimately prevail to do so) is not clear yet.
But as one mentioned here it's not necessarily black and white.
Heck you get faction for working with the Dredge to make things better.
Though of course like most/all of GW, it's not so dynamic that it'll have you stop fighting dredge, you'll just remain friendly with the one 'green' Dredge.
Or so it seems anyways.
Of the enemy groups I wouldn't mind the Dredge chilling out a bit myself, heh.

Slightly suprised on how serious some of you take this!
I mean its a game have fun with it! And...chapter two will bring a new spice to Guild Wars which I think the first one tho v.addictive was lacking!

In a way I agree, I mean i hate having to pick a side thats going to affect everything for me - But at the same time it is just a game...and they gotta do different things - i mean if they had the exact same concept for every chapter it would get boring eventually, even if they did have different stuff. I dont like it - nor do i like PvP, but i love the game so i deal with it.

And I agree with the original author of this thread, I'm not looking forward to being against other players(directly or indirectly) while in PvE. I feel that PvE should be exactly what it is, Player vs. Environment, separate from PvP. But the world of Tyria will remain undivided, so I'll still have fun playing there with both my old and new characters.

Wow, I am impressed and relieved! I was afraid I would be flamed for criticizing the game; instead there are mostly thoughtful and interesting comments.
This was my first post, and the process of dialoguing with ya’ll has renewed my affection for GW more than I imagined it could be. I will be spending a lot of time reading this forum. Hoot!
I spent some time this morning reading reviews of other games, considering leaving GW, which made me sad. As I said before, I have really enjoyed GW and logged an insane amount of time playing. (I have 2 accounts, 4 characters have beaten the game, and my War has 1.2 mill xp) Most of all I like my guild, and I don’t want to leave them…But, so far… (And a more complete reading of factions could change my mind)… I don’t want to help one side or the other; I want nothing to do with either. Now how will I get new skills, armor and weapons?
“A plague on both ur houses!”
One of the first things I encountered was on the Lux side, it was a roman coliseum atmosphere, we were told to slaughter people labeled criminals while lux npcs cheered and called for brutality and cruelty. I was in a pick up group, most of us were really upset, some peeps swore never to play factions and quit right on the spot.
That was Fri. nite. Sunday, out of loyalty to my guild and curiosity I did play more, but it was work, I did not enjoy the process at all, though I did liked the rewards.
I could not help but notice the red and blue thing, like an election nite map, Red Republicans, Blue democrats, Red and Blue, Crips and Bloods, why not some less stigmatized colors, orange and purple might work. True, I could come up with historical or literary associations for most any color, but there r color pairs that are not steeped in real life antagonistic association. This in and of its self is not a deal breaker; it’s just an other unpleasant and unnecessary bitter flavor symptomatic of why I find factions such a turn off.
What I want is to be united, at least on some level. We r in separate teams, countries, nationalities, religions, races genders, guilds, what ever, fine. We compete and cooperate respectfully like games and sports. My family plays the card game hearts, we play incredibly competitively, we make shifting alliances, tease, seek revenge and show off like crazy, but it’s never mean. I want that for GW. Its is a game, play nice.
PS I am dyslsic, meaning spelling is not easy for me. I am again impressed that peeps are not basing criticisms of my ideas on if I spelled correctly, that happens sometimes.

I had a point when I started, believe it or not.

I have 2 accounts, and I'll play one side against the other.
Now, the question is, do I need to be in two different guilds with these accounts?

I'm really looking forward to seeing what you can do with your faction. I'm not sure how a system will work where you can choose to spend it on yourself or an alliance. I think a system where you get half and half is automatically spent might work better.. but I guess we'll see.

But in the end, this game is totally consumed by violence and death. Let's face it, from day one to the moment you finish the story, you murder and hack your way to the top. If you're a pacifist in this game, you won't get past level 1.
It must admit it gets boring, altough it's mostly good enterainment, slaughtering everything. Just look all the other games with the same theme, the developers make sure to make the baddies have a comic, straight evil nature to them, to make sure you won't feel bad about killing thousands upon thousands of living creatures (among them others of your race, such as the deserters).

Maybe, due to your dyslexia you failed to read what one of the first NPC's said in the Market Place, Mhenlo.
I cant remember exactly, but he goes on about the Kurzick and Luxon War, and makes it very plain that they need to be brought together.. to unite to fight a common foe.
We, as players, are sent as messengers to convince each side, unfortunatly to convince them we must first show some dedication to them.
Remember : NON of your characters in Cantha are Luxon or Kurzick from birth, we merly side with one of the factions.
As such its not really about hating each other.. because we fight for both causes, and we fight in an attempt to unite them...
Mako
The part of the game they ran in the FPE was just getting into the Luxons and Kurzicks storyline. And besides if you played the eternal grove mission you would know that they both Join forces. Im sure as the storyline progresses the tension will die down between the 2 sides. As for PvP... its always been competetive and there has always been "1337 pvper Rankz0rd I c4nt l0s3 2 j00 cuz im r4n|< 7 4nd 1f I d0 u r A n00b" Dont worry, if you like GW now you will like factions.
