Just how are we pre-order holders going to get early access exactly?
Cobalt
I was thinking if the game is not released until the 28th , thus you can not pick up the game until the 28th how are pre-order players going to play on the 27th?
Gonzo
Your preorder key gives you access on the 27th. This access will stop when the actual release hits and then you need to enter your Factions gamekey to have access from then on.
leonidasthe
Since you have already put the pre-order key you will be able to start playing factions on the 27th. After release you will have to enter the release key.
Cobalt
So factions will be actually downloaded not installed via a CD, I see, ok, thx for clearing that up.
Snowman
If youve not had your pre-order key yet check with the people you've orderd it with,
I just checked my order with simplygames.com who I got guildwars from originally, and they are not participating in it this year..
They couldnt give me the reason why, I suspect some under hand political reason as im forced to buy it elsewhere for a higher price.

If you currently play Guild Wars, or played in the FPE, then you already have a lot of the Factions content downloaded and ready to play.

I have a similar issue, I think. I preordered online through BestBuy.com. I got no preorder disc. I'm assuming it will be shipped the same day as the game, meaning I get screwed outta my 1-day head start. Is this true? (Say it ain't so...)

if they are not participating your preorder is simply a reservation of a retail copy when it comes out.
Macktar Wang
According to the Guild Wars website, they are participating in the preorder package. I also found the preorder package in the store about a week after I preordered online (I know, I shouldn't have done it the lazy way).
Maybe I should just cancel the preorder and go to the store and re-preorder.

Just to make this clear in my mind. I pre-ordered the game and received a key via email for the FPE and the early access. Do i just add the main key to my current GW account to receive early access?

I have a question. I pre-order on Amazon, so I got my pre-sale free cd, I got the access key in etc. But the actual game ships on release date (it's my understanding), so depending on the shipping method I chose, it might take a few days for my cd to get to me.
Will there be some time allowance for such situations? Like can I use my free access key for at least a few days after release while waiting on my shipment to arrive? I mean... it's kind of awkward to have the early access key, only to have to stop playing until you get your copy of the game... even if a few days is all that is under question...

What pre-order package gets released April 28th? According to ANet, it's already released in america, and the packs get released in europe this friday. The packs getting released april 28th aren't pre-order packages, and will not give you access to the early start (unless the store typed down the wrong release date).

id love they send you teh key by mail i woul really love to play in the head start

I purchased a Guild Wars: Factions Pre-Order Edition disc from Target for .99 cents. The package was clear in that it did not contain the full game, however, it did contain pre-order keys which give me access on the 27th 24 hours ahead of time, the special preorder rit and assassin weapons, access to the FPE, and a 14 day trial key for Chapter 1. They did not take my name, address or any other info.
How exactly is this going to work? I'm extremely confused.

That's all I can think of, or maybe wait until Alex Weekes, post another reply. And maybe he will help you out on an answer.
And good luck any ways.

if you want to buy Factions the game that is a separate purchase.
if you trust target to have stock on hand for sale on the 28th you can go down and purchase it getting your 99 cents deducted from the purchase.
if you dont trust them you can preorder THE GAME at a major game seller and they may/may not deduct the 99 cents.
good luck

one thing im thinking about is will the additional slots open up? (with the pre-order key)
im guessing that they dont and you only get the +2 slots when youve added either actual SE or CE key.....
anyone actually know the answer to this??

I'm wondering about my Amazon order. The preorder box should be here this week, but the actual game will be shipped on 4/28 when they get it. Probably 5 days after that I will receive it. Will my preorder code work until I get the retail? Or are they disabled on the 28th?
If they are disabled, then I'm taking off work on the 27th/28th and gonna play my arse off for 24 hours, then take a 5 day break, lol.

Wait... so best buy labels it as pre-order but doesn't actually participate? I mean, you get the key with the game... that doesn't ship til the release date? :wtf: hmm, but Amazon.com is actualy participating and mailing the key as soon as you order? If so, I need to go cancel my Best Buy order to get it from Amazon.

Here's a little more info on the whole preorder thing:
- If you're going to link your accounts, and I strongly encourage you to do so, then yes, if you get the preorder package, or a preorder key, you can add it at any time up to and including April 27th, and you will gain access to the Head Start that begins at 12:01 a.m. PDT (7:01 GMT) on April 27th.
- Your preorder items should appear on that date, as well.
- The Head Start will end at 11:59 p.m. PDT (6:59 GMT) on April 28th. We're very sorry, but extending the Head Start while you await receipt of the retail copy is simply not possible, with our regrets.
- A deposit on the game is expected to be applied to the retail purchase price of the game. That is, if you put down $10 on Factions, and get the free preorder package, when you purchase Factions you should have a $10 credit.
- If you preordered from a store that didn't appear to understand that, I checked today, and we have a lot of retailer agreements and it may be simply a matter of showing you receipt (for the preorder) in order to receive the credit. I worried that some stores were using a faulty process, but what we think has happened in a few instances where it appeared the deposit wasn't applied to the purchase price was that the store employee simply didn't understand the process. So if you put a deposit down on the game, keep your receipt and show it when your pick up your retail copy of the game. If there is a question about getting credit for the preorder you may wish to speak with the store manager, as he is she is likely a little better informed about the preorder process.
- Your character slots -- either the 2 slots that give you access to all content in both games, or the 4 with access only to Factions content -- will be obtained through the retail access key, not the Head Start.

Gaile, just to clarify that last point.
You are effectively saying that Head Start is only available to people who already have prophecies, and also, that in order to take advantage of Head Start these people must use on of their 4 Prophecies slots.
Anyone who has the pre-order key without already having Prophecies won't be able to do take advantage of Head Start.
edited last sentance for clarity

Well, for those with 4 slots already maxed, I guess the only recourse is to play Cantha with one of your level 20 characters, which may not be a bad idea anyway. You get first crack at access to new weapons, armor, pets, etc. Try to look at the bright side...
I have an empty slot, and I'm planning on entering Cantha with a level 20 character first. I want some of those new weapons!!!

Well what I want to know is... who is not actually sending the pre-order package? I went to Best Buy and bought it via "Pre-Order" but it doesn't say anything about sending a pre-order package, just that it'll be *shipped* on the 28th, which is the normal release date.

Best Buy is not participating in th preorder.
what you have done is reserve a retail copy.
i have used Gamestop and the 2nd day shipping and they have sent the items out 2 days BEFORE the 27th to be sure i could use them/
see the above post mentioned as you may wish to cancel and buy elsewhere
Mordakai
Well, Best Buy was selling the pre-order box, that's where I got mine after I tired of waiting for EB games (of course, they got theirs the next week. Doh!)

you need to have the PREORDER TO GET THE EARLY ACCESS.
that is the special preorder package which has NOTHING TO DO WITH SIMPLY PREORDERING THE GAME.
2 SEPARATE PURCHASES
2 DIFFERENT PRODUCTS
2 DIFFERENT RESULTS
having Prophecies will not give early access
EDIT
SINCE FACTIONS IS A STAND ALONE GAME YOU CAN PREORDER (with the preorder kit) AND GET EARLY ACCESS WITHOUT HAVING CHAPTER 1 AT ALL
Mordakai
I think you missed the point, Loviatar. Gaile says specifically that you will not get any slots from the pre-order Head Start.
So
Is correct in his question. You must already have Prophecy to be able to participate in the head start, otherwise you won't have access to any slots?
That makes no sense, so maybe Gaile is wrong?!?

We're talking about the Head Start, the 24 early access available from pre-orders. From Gaile's quote (above), it sounds like it won't be available to new players. You can disagree (I too, think that's wrong), but you can't argue that's not what Gaile said.
I would like some clarification.

a new buyer who does not have chapter 1 can purchase the preorder box off the shelf same as you.
in that box is the following from the official GW site
Quote:
A key that provides access to the Factions Preview Event on March 24th Access to Guild Wars Factions twenty-four hours before the official release date Exclusive in-game items—one unique item for each of the two new professions A "friend" key that gives one of your friends access to the Factions Preview Event on March 24th A 14-day, 10-hour trial of Guild Wars (original Prophecies campaign) A tactical guide A quick-reference card A CD that includes concept art, wallpapers, and in-game trailers |
Mordakai
So, what the heck is Gaile talking about here:
Specifically, will players who already own Prophecy get 2 additional slots for the Head Start? (I know we'll get two slots when we merge Factions with the retail key).
And those who don't have Prophecy, how will they be able to play the Head Start with no slots?
What does Gaile mean with "the 2 slots that give you access to all content in both games, or the 4 with access only to Factions content -- will be obtained through the retail access key, not the Head Start."

EDIT TO YOUR EDIT
Factions is a stand alone game.
people without chapter 1 are buying Factions which comes with 4 slots of its own.
when they use the special 24 hour key they are accessing Factions the stand alone game same as a non merged account and have 4 slots.
