Ecto at an all time low, and still dropping

Logged on today to see the trader selling at 6.5k and buying at 4.6k. This is the lowest I've ever seen his buy price (not including resets).

Could it be all those 55hp Chinese monks that were made redundant when Anet nerfed the Griffons are causing this new stock crash?

Certainly I cannot be the only one who has noticed the rapid rise of these monks around ToA immediately after the nerf...

I stock crash which began slowly with the Rise of the SS/SV and 55hp monk teams isnow spiraling out of control with the new wave of Chinese pro farmers at ToA...

2 months ago they were trading at 6.5k..maybe 3..its nothing new, it is about as low as they get tho..i don't think many people are buying FoW armor at the moment, after having had a glimpse of the Factions armor, i would speculate that people are saving cash for the high end armor in Cantha

Even with the abundance of 55 Monks/SS Necros in ToA, the Ecto price is pretty much set so as to not drop below 6-6.5k trade value.

True, about 2 months ago I was buying them for 6k-6-5.k too. But with alot of farming going on recently by new Chines/Japanese players, and not many players wanting to buy the ecto for their FoW armor anymore, prices will be low, and maybe even drop some more.

Better start collecting money and spending it on ecto if you are interested in buying FoW armor (I know I will )

It feels like ectos are dropping at an increasing rate, at least in Tombs. Doubt that has that much to do with it. Don't merchants only calculate what goes through them, not what's currently in the economy?

Ectos are dropping in price because of chapter 2....people will want the "new" stuff thus are selling ectos.

One particular facet of this which has always amazed me is how ectos hold ther price at all.

My logic is that players usually sell somewhere between the trader buy and sell prices, usually 500gp or so less than the trader. Furthermore, there are so many people selling ecto at any given time that you do not have to try very hard to get this kind of price- only the truly desperate need pay full trader price.

I suppose the only thing keeping prices up at all might be that ecto are also very easy to sell, so there may be almost as much of a shortage of people selling to the trader as there are buying from him.

If there really are very few people using the trader to buy/sell their ecto, the worry it creates is tha a relatively small cabal could manipulate the price fairly easily, particularly in order to keep the price boosted.

I haven't been to FoW on my @ncjp account yet...no favor. Ever, as far as I can recall, otherwise I'd use it more often.

They will go back up in price after Ch2 is out since the Ritualist and Assassin will have their own version of the FoW armor.
Anet said that FoW will still be the armor sought after.

They seem to be fluctuating rather than dropping. But I'm unsure about this.

I'm also two minds about whether it's a good or bad thing if they drop in price.

One guess would be that ectos now for a kind of secondary currency unit for high value trades. So even people who never plan on getting the armor might want to have some ectos in storage.

I believe that's exactly what has happened and why - I think - ectos will remain a relatively stable currency. Like the real stock market, I think prices go down in times of uncertainty - and with Chap. 2 on the way - this is one of those times.

So, unless precious gems or some new items replaces ectos as the high-end currency this is a good time to buy ectos. The risk, of course, would be that a new elite armor - competing with FOW but with better stats - could use some other high-end crafting material. If that happened, then the ecto would continue to slide.

Seriously ouch - for those that have 250 ectos to see the prices plummet.

Black dye has also been up to a pretty good high ~ 8.5k if I last remember.
Shards also went down a bit 4.2k, but this also fluctuates. I've seen it go to 5.5k at the trader.

I took this screenie when I believed ecto prices were at an all time high. I think it was right after the series of nerfs concluding with the addition of Dying Nightmares in UW, can't remember the exact date.

Enjoy!!

From what we saw in the preview of Factions, ectos didn't have an immediate place, and the "Droks" equivalent armor looks as good or better than the FoW stuff. Who needs ectos anymore?

Exactly!!! what I said all along. its a needless goldsink. Now all be it, there is a planned new Fissure equivalent in factions. Rumor still has it, it will require gems, and Jadits or Amber to craft. as well as other Rare materials that have not been used much as of yet... However those armors are so far into the game that it make little since to save up for it now until we are all sure what the materials are going to be... The new undercity bonus area will be the main factor in determining the new Rare armor (possibly with the higher AC ratings). Hopefully. It will be a nice unique set... and hopefully Extraordinarily expensive...

Notice how there is armor that you have to get item costing faction points during the "preview" event. I think a lot assume that this will be the "new" Fow armor (if it's true or not). You trade faction for "item" that you use to craft new special armor.

Also the more faction stuff comes out, less importance "Fow" will become unless they get access to those Relams in C1.

Another factor is since Factions is coming out, a lot of people are in "Save" mode.

I was planning to start a thread on this, good thing somone else did. Back in the day, i said "if ectos drop to 5.5k, i`ll buy a fow armor for my ele". Now, it would be the time, but I changed my mind.

Anyway, it's funny. All those ss/sv and 55 monks farming ectos when a warrior or ranger can easily solo farm shards.

IMO shard farming is a bigger money maker than ecto farming (considering the current prices). You can get 3-7 shards in one run (that should take no longer than 30-40 min). With the 50/50 system i doubt you get 2-3 ectos/farmer (making it 4-6 ectos in 1 run for the team).

Also chest are much more available in FoW than in UW.

The price of ectos might also be dropping because of ToPK. Say whatever you want, but it's another place where ectos drop. So even if it's not a good ecto source, it still increases the number of ectos in the economy. Also ToPK ectos are "cheaper" ectos than UW ones since you don't need to pay to go there.

The price is dropping are because most extreme gamers already got the FoW armors.
And most smart players release how suck the GW is compare with other games.
And most Adult players sick with play a game with 3 years old. (Due to no monthly fee)

Therefore prices are dropping, and it will keep dropping, even if you can ban all farmers.
And I have to tell you, most farmers are in U.S., Europe, Korean, Japan and Taiwan since GW is not officially released in the China yet. (Assuming Taiwan is not part of China)

In any games or products there is a market window, as newly develop game’s market window got shorter and shorter. Anet are stupid enough to release their lame faction, which content only few new skill, 10+ new weapons, 10+ new armors and most of them all with old concept of area, better little better and different graphic. And surprisingly that company survives till now.

In Conclusion:
The game has exceeded its market window, and it is dieing!
And stop bitching about the price, it really getting too old.

By 10+, you can say I mean the set. But also look at the newly released armors.
Elementalist AR 60 + X HP
Ranger AR 70 + X HP
Warrior AR 80 + X HP
… And so on, I would only call them 1 new item, as they are duplicate items of the same ideal.

I have never said I don’t like GW, as it is the first and by far the best of its class.

“The release of Guild Wars in April 2005 represented NCsoft's investment in the possible profitability of an online RPG with a one-time fee. Guild Wars did not share many of the distinguishing features of typical MMORPGs such as an undivided gameworld (outside of cities, the game was played on a private copy of the gameworld), the lack of instant world travel, the subscription fee, the large time investment required to enjoy end-game content, and the largely server-dependent software architecture. As such, it was termed a Competitive/Cooperative Online Role-Playing Game (CORPG) by its developers. It is most often referred to as an OCG, or "Online Computer Game".”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mmorpg

Like the article said, the gaming concept and the design of GW is truly amazing. But that is in 2005. As successful Global releases of GW, many I mean MANY newly develop games has implement the similar concept of GW. With only a better job, for quick example a newly released Korean MMOPRG “SUN” or “Hulxey”.

Of course Hulxey is a MMO First Person Shooting Game with role-play, which allow 3000 players shoot at each other on the same map. Due to it’s not release yet, it is a bad example to compare with GW.

“Mournbalde”:
From first release of Black Screen TV it take 20 year for it to exceed its 1 million units.
Color TV: 12 years
PC: 6 Years
DVD: 6 Months!

As the new technology advance, a market window is become shorter and shorter for the edge product. This concept is also applied to newly develop games. Don’t know if any of you remember Diablo 1, or Diablo 2, from blizzard. How long till they release their expansion not with in a year right?

Anet themselves also release this, that is why they have continue update to their game. Now can you still says 1 year old game is still as fresh as baby? You may want to think again.

Also back on the Chinese golden farming Issue:

“On August 4, 2005, the Chinese government announced a ban on all "violent" gameplay for minors under 18. Chinese officials defined 'violent' as any game that involves player vs. player combat, a common feature among MMORPGs. Later in August the same year, the Chinese government imposed online gaming curbs so players will gain experience and items in game at a decreased and decreasing rate, until it hits zero after five hours of consecutive gameplay, after which the player must log off for five hours to get the full rate back.”

As far as the ecto prices dropping I think that just has to do with everyone planning for the new factions FoW armor equivalent. Or people who were planning on getting tatoos for their necro or monk, the two classes commonly used to farm ecto, may have gotten discouraged since with a recent update those armors now require shards also. As a result the could of just decided to get rid of their ectos as fast as they could.

If they have an official reference with information that cannot freely be edited then link to that, the Wiki can be edited by ANYONE. Meaning I or anyone could edit it on a whim and put total BS in there. A source that can be edited by anyone is not a reliable source as it can be easily changed.

Also Fantomvz thought I do disagree with your first post in this thread, I dont care enough to debate it, but im sure others do. So If you have something you want to prove with sources then all I ask is that you use good/reliable sources.

Fact. The ranger armor I started with in Factions blows away, in my mind, FoW armor. As a result, I dumped my ectos on the trader. I don't want to be bothered trying to sell to someone for more of a profit, so why not the trader?

Ooh... good point.. I still have shards to dump. I wonder if I will see the price drop doing it?

You should check your dates on how old products are. I know that PCs have been around since 81 or maybe even earlier?
It doesnt even matter how old the game is, people still play Diablo and how old is that game? The age of the game doesnt really matter, it will always have a following. You were just saying how GuildWars was not released in China, so why bother telling us of this ban on their games? And it seems most of the farmbots are from Taiwan, but I believe its more common for the asians to use farmbots than Europe and America. They treat it as a business since they have no laws prohibiting it. Back to the ectos, I wouldn't be suprised if they dropped more before factions. Though they will probably stabalize when people have a better idea of what GW:Factions offers them.

Oh, you can. 1000 faction points gives you one of either the amber or jadeite, depending on your faction. Brilliant, isn't it? They've completely destroyed the bot market for the rare items needed for highly desireable armors. I suppose the potential will always remain for amber to drop... but trade faction for it and you're good. No gold required. No ebay.

Sweet.
