Ecto at an all time low, and still dropping
nitetime
Now wait a minute...The price of ecto, or any crafting material for that matter, would drop due to a surplus in the GW economy. Meaning that players are selling ectos back to the merchants to achieve this surplus? However, with current fall in prices wouldnt players stop selling their ectos back to merchants?
Maybe if there isnt enough merchant turnover, anet is actually lowering prices to reduce the number of rare crafting materials ingame.

Some of the new armors have decent stats and look nice enough, but FoW has a nice looking version of Glad's and Ascalon, which I didn't see in FPE.

Fantomvz, thank you for showing what seems to be the exact source from where you got your information from. However I would just like to point out that lecture notes are not exactly a reliable source. Although it is a .edu address, lecture notes are based on the opinion of the individual and are generally not cross checked with others in the field. Also since the notes do not have a publisher/copyright they can be changed by the professor at will. Although the information may be correct, unless it is cross checked and published I prefer not to take it as fact.

And I have to tell you, most farmers are in U.S., Europe, Korean, Japan and Taiwan since GW is not officially released in the China yet. (Assuming Taiwan is not part of China) In any games or products there is a market window, as newly develop game’s market window got shorter and shorter. Anet are stupid enough to release their lame faction, which content only few new skill, 10+ new weapons, 10+ new armors and most of them all with old concept of area, better little better and different graphic. And surprisingly that company survives till now. In Conclusion: The game has exceeded its market window, and it is dieing! And stop bitching about the price, it really getting too old. |

- New "Fow" Armor in factions do not use ecto / shards
- People are in "save" mode due to factions coming out
- Factions armor looks much cooler then fow
- They added another "drop" are for materials in ToAK
Aka demand is down, and there is way to much supply.
Even though as pointed out that a game can lose players over time (they move on) I do not think this is affecting price directly nor is GW dieing as quick as he makes it out to be.

Guys, guys. Leave the china-bot farming/flaming troll alone.
look; supply decreases demand. We have only ourselves to blame. Once there were only a few UW farmers out there. Now, thanks to sites like Guru giving builds out to all, any tom Dick and Chung-Li can throw on a build, burn a few plat learning it and start to farm.
We make it easier, more people do it. More people farming Ectos means more ectos ont he market. Pretty soon the people who were farming for theri armor are farming for money. they can't find a decent buyer so they move on to the trader and take a little less each time they sell their ectos and prices drop even further.
It's simple economics. What do you want GW to do about it? Nerf bot-farmers. I'd love to see a bot farmer actually make it to the spiders; now that'd be a feat, yes?
Ban the sweat-shoppers. Ok; how are you going to be able to tell when its a sweatshopper and when its just a really good farmer whose stocking his guild up with ectos so they can get their FoW?
Better still (and I haven't seen this one on this thread, but I have seen it!) is to reduce the overall drops to a certain cap, so if a lot of people are farming ectos, only a few of them will actually get one. Well, this will certainly increase the price...as those with ectos begin hording. Again, the already rich become even richer and the poor get the shaft.
Personnally, etcos lost their value for me the first day I learned about 100k+ecto items. they're just a means for people to price-hike other itmes. I'm glad they're going down.

True dat, Minus sign. So many people complaining about the goddamn "Chinese" farmers, when these could be very well our own American people farming! They don't talk when they come into Drok's?! Well, I don't really talk to people when I come in to a town after farming. I just unload my items and go back out. Sure, there ARE Chinese farmers, but how can you prove they are Chinese? Hell, my friend made the name "Wu Li Yang" as a joke and made a Mo/W w/ Tats dyed blue. He doesn't 55 HP Monk and always changes his secondary before PvP, but when he goes to Drok's to sell something, guess what? People yelling "n00b chinese farmer, go back to goddamn china!" and other offensive things like that.

Well i think ectos are going to be stable after Factions goes out.
But what really bothers me now is: the "new fow" factions armor will not use sapphires and rubies ? f**k ... then for what they'll be used ?
and another one : if the equivalent for ecto / shard , really will be jade / amber, how a pve only player will get high end armor, its just no-sense to force a player that maybe dont like pvp to do it for the armor.
Anyone have a clue for sapphires/rubies ???
It'll be a lame if they're not for high-end stuff, since their fixed value is 250g against 100g of ecto/shard, and they're much more hard to drop then ecto/shard.

I dont see how people are saying Ectos are dropping for good. ectos like all trader items fluctuate. if anyone remembers just last week the trader was selling them for 8.5k. 3 weeks ago they were going for 6.5-7k(depends what time of day you clicked request quote)
traders are a stock market. up then down then up then down then up then down then up then down then up then down etc..

I could code an ecto "Ticker" much like the stock market tickers you see floating around on the web ... only thing that's stopped me is that bit in the EULA about not modifying the client ah well.
As long as we're speculating, I believe the ecto price will trend lower just before (and during) the release of Factions, and remain lower than it has been in the past. People will want the new armors, new weapons, etc. causing a lack of demand in ecto/shards from sellers ... and as a result: more farmers selling ecto back to the trader.

Even if Ecto and Shards both dropped to 1k each, wouldn't it still cost like 305k + 15k per armor peice? I don't think it will get too low, people will always be buying them.
Only reason why they are dropping is becuase people like you guys are selling out

Anyway, it's funny. All those ss/sv and 55 monks farming ectos when a warrior or ranger can easily solo farm shards. IMO shard farming is a bigger money maker than ecto farming (considering the current prices). You can get 3-7 shards in one run (that should take no longer than 30-40 min). With the 50/50 system i doubt you get 2-3 ectos/farmer (making it 4-6 ectos in 1 run for the team). Also chest are much more available in FoW than in UW. The price of ectos might also be dropping because of ToPK. Say whatever you want, but it's another place where ectos drop. So even if it's not a good ecto source, it still increases the number of ectos in the economy. Also ToPK ectos are "cheaper" ectos than UW ones since you don't need to pay to go there. |

Instead of TVs, GW gets weapons and armor. You don't need anything but Droks style equipment and a couple weapons on a level with yakslapper (and in its price range). certain builds may suggest more, but anything else is something of a luxury.
Still, some people insist that these items are a necessity, making it sound like owning a Plasma television is their constitutional right and congress (in this case Anet) should make it easy for all to buy.
Come on now. Think about what you're asking when you think this way. Asking Anet for a price stabilizer on Ectos is like asking congress to get Wal-Mart to give you an even trade when you take your old box-style television into their store and demand your shiny new plasma. Even trade, old for new.
Nope. Sorry; if you want the next uber item, you'll have farm the next uber farm. Just like everyone else

Do we make TVs a disposible item? Sorta. We come out with the next "latest greatest" television and again, people rush out to buy it...at a higher markup.

I only made a comment about how having a "ticker" for ecto price would be neat, and state opinion that I think they will trend less expensive when factions comes out because everyone will want the "new" stuff, just as your post suggests ... did you mean to quote someone else?

Well...I guess now would be the best time to get FOW armor, although according to what other people said, its pretty pointless to get it now since there's probably going to be another "grind for months" armor with different material.
Most people I know gave up on ecto collecting to see if whatever is in Faction would surpass the FOW armor at "have to have no life to get".
Others just want to wear faction armors because they look better.
Then there are those who didn't bother since there's so few ways to earn enough money for the armor without investing a ton to begin with (that would be me ).
Then there are those who got everything already with their maxed out account thanks to all those old "market resets" and the HoD sword.
Plenty of reason why Ecto is so unwanted now.

FoW armor is going to be cheaper?
Uh... yay?
Just stating my own opinion for this, didnt read any of the rest of the thread. But if I were to take a guess I would say Anet is decreasing the price because half the poplulation atleast will be leaving Tyria and going to Cantha. Less people means less buyers or farmers. As the need goes down, prices will reduce.
That's my take anyway.

Once japan and taiwan start getting Favor alot, ecto will drop even lower.

Not if the Economy is seperate between the servers. Then it doesn't matter if they have the favor only we can effect our economy. Sounds to me that anet is almost forcing people to PvsP. Sure there will be all kinds of quest out there but it seems PvsP is required if you want to get the nicest gear soonest.

To hell with ecto prices, I'm going to buy a ton of random currently unused rare materials while they are cheap, because im 90% sure they will be needed to craft the new cantha armor. If u guys wanna get rich, buy a ton of a random rare material and hope its needed when Factions comes out

Lol, maybe 1 out of the 30 random rare materials I buy will be used !!!

I got 100 ecto at like 5.5k each when trader was at 6.5k and now that it has gone up 500g at trader, I sold it back for a tidy 50k profit. I do believe that 6-6.5k is the boundary (unless there is a reset or glitch or exploit, etc.) because it never seems to go any lower. It will just bounce back up or something.

I belive the amber and jadite will symbol status within whichever faction...
I'm still betting FoW Forgemaster will expand his options once people own factions. c'mon he's a dead guy, what else is there besides learning what to make next...
I cant wait to see a 15K sentinals
hmm what armors will they call these... they arent ascention armors are they?
hey I bought 20 sum ecto at the trader for 6.5K, haggling is getting old; also bought shards at 4.4K cuz no one would sell me any at 4~4.2 penny pinchers

That's because everyone was selling it in cantha at the Beta weekend...I know some people have brought a small heap of it...but considering how easy/fun it is to earn with Faction/repeatable quests it's not gonna be worth much.

there is an elite armor set for factions as well. we have not seen it as yet...
The rumor has it, that it involves the under-city bonus area, and from there you are able to get to Underworld and Fissure from Cantha as well the new bonus area. Basically a Canthan version of ToA but with a little more to offer area wise, and much harder to get too. So I don't expect Ecto to be completely valueless in Factions. I anticipate a lot of people wanting the gems as well... as I am betting on some interesting features for those as well. One of the suggestions I had was for customizable jewelery to wear for character and pet customization... I never heard back on the idea, but it was something many seemed to like.
