Why does it seem that people who complain tend to never use paragraphs? Is it a rant mentality? I just simply can't read stuff like this. Format it, please, into a few paragraphs that are easy on the eyes, not a huge clump of BLAH.

I am pleading with ANET on behalf of all the smaller guilds that will be joining Factions. Guild Wars is a diverse game stands out from the competition. Why is it? Because of its large content within PvE?....No . Is it cause GW has offered a new type of RPG diffrent from others we have played in the past?... No. Then what is it about Guild Wars that makes me not want to play EQ or WoW? You know what it is: the Freedom, the Friendship, the devotion to 8 man parties and accessiable areas for large or small guilds. The relaxing feel of not having to over-perform so you don't lose members or friends to a guild who is better and can get them places or items that we cannot. That is a WoW driven mentality style of game play. I know people who walk out on thier so called friends just to join a large guild so they can do Molten Core or some other impersonal questing where in that guild your # 281 of 300. But now with Factions just around the corner it looks like WoW style game play is going to become a reality. I for one am ashamed to admit it but I have had to recently start to scramble and form a large alliance, busting my butt off as a Guild Leader to ensure that my members my friends can have the best possiable gaming experience. So instead of me enjoying GW as I always have I now find myself crunching all my time looking into finding alliances for all the wrong reasons. For fear that if I can't provide outposts and Elite PvE areas for my friends that maybe they might leave me for a more dominate outpost controling guild. I am not certian, ANET, if it was your intention to put so much pressure on me and others like me or even if you care. But be assured of this: if my fears become a reality and GW, for most, becomes a tiresome impersonal faction farm, you can be sure I will never consider purchasing another ANET product and alot of my guildies agree. Guild Wars Community make your voice heard now before your small guild becomes a vage shadow. And for Experienced players already in a large guild make your voices heard as well cause soon, when it comes to crunch time and your not putting in your dues of faction points towards the guild you, might find yourself forced from your guild and replaced by a more capable faction farmer. ANET should have a road sign bettewen Tyria and Canath saying "Now Leaving Guilds Wars Now Entering World Of Warcraft: Population 1 million and deacreasing rapidly". Copy and paste this forum Message in every GW fan site. You can make ANET aware that this kind of impersonal thoughtless game style is not wanted by GW gamers. Do it now before its too late, those laughing at my posting laugh it up now cause you just might get stung with the harsh and cold reality of just being a cog in a wheel ... sand on the beach. |

GW is becoming nothing like WoW. The biggest PvP will be 12v12, and that's not very WoWish.
A-net has things like this in check, and they've already said that small guilds will not suffer as a result of alliances. This thread would be better off in the Factions forum so people who actually know what they're talking about can respond.
P.S. TY Minus Sign.
edit: I think it's important to say that a lot of the stuff out there is also speculation.

Even though I am in a large guild...I dont agree with you, and you have no idea how factions is going to work. Why dont you wait until it comes out before you complain about how bad it is?

I can definately see where you are coming from, and I can truely understand the fear. It really is one of those things that we won't fully understand the functionality of until we actually experience it.
Also, remember that chapter 3 is being made by a different development team and is being worked on with a different basic concept in mind, so it very well could play to a style that you find more favorable.
Anyway, I just think it is too early to call anything yet. There are just too many unknown factors.

In theory it's a good idea

Eh alliances aren't too hard to form, and from the FPE I didn't get the feeling that alliances would play a huge huge part. Granted they didn't let us form them so I could be wrong.

Too late; he's already spamming it. Saw him another (factions) thread; same bull...not editing it again.
scars of insanity
first i dont think many people want to spend hours farming faction. and i dont think you have to own an outpost to enter it.... correct me if im wrong. as for now i am in a pve guild that most of the members are not active leaving us with 20 active members and we believe we will be perfectly fine when GWF comes out. just chill out and enjoy the old game before the new one comes out.
MasterDinadan
There's a huge and very significant difference.
In WoW, the only way to get the very best equipment (besides spending countless hours of your life trying to get to the top PVP ranks, a feat which very few people ever achieve) is to do raid dungeons. This means if you want to be equal to your peers in PVP, you have to do some raids to get the equips.
In Guild Wars, however, maximum stat gear is by no means hard to acquire in RP (nor is it exclusive to any "elite zone") and it is literally GIVEN to you if you make a PVP character. With this in mind, there is not as much of an incentive for players to want to do these elite missions, and so much less incentive for them to be in a top ranking alliance.

I would flame him for his lack spacing things out...
on there other hand, I understand his concerns... however I think his complaint is probably about as pre-mature as his grammar exam!
This kind of complaint/rant is better served AFTER the release of Factions.
Im a leader of a small guild, and I want to bring it back to life and get a good alliance on the go... yes it will be hard work, but thats why I like being leader
..
Not only that, I have a feeling that it will be VERY easy to get people recruited into guilds, and get alliances started...
The smaller guilds who want to stay small, are soon going to want to get involved with alliances and they will soon realise how much more fun it will be
so for now, Im just gona wait and see how it all turns out.

with that topic , looks to me like pure flaming on guildwars ... i will call you a WOW player.

I couldn't even be bothered to read that as you hadn't even paragraphed it, lol.
Makkert
Altough I am just as disappointed at the lack of paragraph-use by the OP as others, he does have a (small) point. Smaller alliances will most likely be at a disadvantage compared to big alliances to gain access to elite missions.
Looking at it in bigger perspective however, I'd like to note:
- if your friends leave you for that, I am not sure if they are friends tbh...
- it's only the elite pve content, of which no one knows what it holds. If it is as 'great'
as the Titan Quests, they can have the access for all I care.
- I still find it hard to believe ANet would limit the access to an allliance of 1000 players max, instead of the whole faction (50% players).
- Altough I'm in a reasonable big guild, I don't expect we'll be holding towns. The system as I've seen it in the FPE favors zerg farming. Even though the detoriation (Sp?) factor increases with your Faction Standing, it still is a matter of having the most (consistent) input.
Having a big guild is by no means a guarantee that you'll be holding towns. You would have to join an alliance of 10 guilds that farm Luxon faction. I hope your friends enjoy farming if they leave you for the elite content.
Greetings Makk.

im not sure i want to say what i really feel about this , but here it goes
being a online game , the social part is also a thing to work on , not just skills.

everyone is worried that the elite missions are going to be inaccessible. I highly doubt it.. Lets just wait and see before going into panic mode. from what we have seen of the so called elite missions they are far from inaccessible. And remember its not based on Guilds its based on alliances. And possibly even on Faction alliances... which would even be more extreme...
In any case lets not start protecting mosquitoes yet. the itch has not even kicked in yet...

yes , thats why this whole thread is a flame especulation .. but even so , if its allience based , i wouldnt mind becose of what i said before. 1000 players is a lot , not that hard to have good 8 players to open elite quests in 1000 people . this is where the social part comes more important , actualy i really hope its allience based .
MasterDinadan
Perhaps it will be like good old Underworld where you have to pay a fee to get into the mission...
So the incentive for having your Alliance control the outpost? Members of the faction get to enter the mission free of charge. IN ADDITION, the Alliance receives a portion of the fee that other players would be paying to play the mission. So, gain control of a popular mission, and you will start making money by charging the other players an entry fee

Secondly I do not know what you mean by top guilds but if you mean top GvG and HA guilds I personally have had nothing but good experiences from them. Look at Xen of Onslaught, Final Destiny, and Idiot Savants for example. They are constantly posting information, articles, and helping people on this site.
Thirdly, both you and the OP are making assumptions about an expansion that is not even released yet, compared to the core game, there is little information on it.
Finally you fail to take into consideration that Alliances are limited to ten guilds per Alliance. Do you know how many guilds there are? I don't keep track of it myself but I can guarantee it is in the thousands, if not tens of thousands. You also fail to consider that most of these top guilds are interested in PvP. Why would they want to have exclusive control over a PvE area?
Everyone is in a panic and I can understand that, expansions can make or break a game. But for the love of Balthazar stop freaking out until we can actually get our hands on it.
Tuoba Hturt Eht
Well, in my opinion, if an expansion will "break the game", or if released, and is "breaking" the game, I think ANET will quickly come up with updates, so that the game will no longer remain "broken".
Cheers.
Cheers.

I think this will be the downfall for the small guilds. Capping by player would, IMHO, appear preferable - so many small guilds could band together and still have some (albeit small) chance of competing for the elite quests.

Now due what are u talking about, factions is just making the game better. Well that is the name of the game Guild WAr, so u fight or ur die. My recomendation to u is if u feel overwelm being a guild leader i think u should pass the bucket to someone else.
But please stop the whining i have hear enough on SWG for 2.5 years.

I can't help but feel the whole "non-uber guilds miss out on the elite content" argument and feel it's just a case of "the glass is half empty".
If they removed the elite content so that the top ranked Alliances have no tangible reward except for their name on a town, which acts pretty much like the ladder system when you think about it, would you be happy?
There's already plenty of new content in GW:Factions that I know for a fact you haven't experienced yet. Perhaps after you've played the rest of factions to death you'll have some right to complain there's more available that you're unable to access. But you haven't, so you don't.
You have to understand, these elite areas weren't put in the game for everybody. They're a reward. Complaining that you don't have everything before you've even played what you've got just seems rather childish to me.

Sorry, but if you're just here to flame GW, I don't know why you are doing it.
WOW, EQ and GW all are good games, and they all appeal to different gamers.
If you're feeling left out of the 'elite content', then join a guild. There are plenty of people in major cities who need people and will readily invite you.
Guild Halls cost about 20-30k. That's not that much. If your guild works together, you can easily get the money in a couple of days.
Don't go onto game forums just to flame the said game.
If you do, you're just plain stupid.
