Oh yeah, I've seen that build as well. Using shields up is interesting, allows you to have balanced + shields + charge for running past avicara, which is an advantage for sure. I stil prefer distortion for running past other groups though.

And another note: Illusion of haste doesn't cause crippled if ended prematurely (eg avicara strip enchantments)
That's true. But without shields up on my build, stopping to recast is not very comfortable Echo is a cool idea too, could help on those long wurm areas or places with lots of tundra giants (another place where shields up helps).

o.O this is amazing, gonna lvl my mesmer as fast as possible=D
23 Apr 2006 at 15:59 - 44
And finally: a video of my entire run (69.6 MB xvid)!
Run duration (full run from beacons to droks) 26:32
Lagged badly in the middle of a tundra giant group, died, wasted 3 minutes...
23 Apr 2006 at 16:09 - 45
Nice, I haven't got around to recording mine, that should help people trying out the build(s).
23 Apr 2006 at 21:40 - 46
Wish i could've recorded my Necros run aswell. Would've been amusing to see where i started taking the piss ever so slightly too much and ended up with 15 health when a group of trolls jumped me while killing some Giants.
I gave mesmer another attempt earlier this week and got totally battered by Wurms at the first corridor.... the damn things wouldn't let up!
Shields up could be pretty useful though, would make Tundra Giants pretty useless too.

If someone wants to name one of the twin goddesses of Lyssa after my character, I'm not complaining

If so, who is your twin?

They broke Illusion of Haste.
27 Apr 2006 at 04:46 - 53
Horribly. Not just you're now crippled if stripped, casting illusion of haste won't clear crippled condition anymore...
The only workaround is to recast IOH before it expires, but when you get stripped you're screwed... or use a monk secondary which you won't be able to handle frost wurms and tundra giants...
EDIT: illusion of haste is now fixed so that casting will now clear the crippled condition!

omg i love all of your builds avarre...
it is so amazing i have to try it!
27 Jun 2006 at 22:04 - 55
Lyssa has most definately blessed you fellow mesmer and may she continue to thru out your endeavors.
28 Jun 2006 at 14:29 - 56
Just a note: with changing of IoH, a cover enchantment is strongly advised for the avicara tunnel. (now you get crippled if it is stripped)
Also, echo works better as an elite for double balanced stance.

At the risk of getting my head beaten in by the mesmer community... Shouldn't the other 'twin' be an assassin?

I've seen a guy run it with Echo, though personally I prefer Expel.

Nope. Mesmers are purely focused on the magical capabilities gifted to them. Assassins are split between balthazar and lyssa, as they are warriors to an extent.
Furthermore, the twins are beauty and illusion. In a lyssan order, the heads would be mesmers, though assassins would have places in the order, however not as theological commanders (military and defence perhaps).

Aren't all Sin bonusses bound to Lyssa? ( When you /kneel in front of res shrines in factions )
29 Jun 2006 at 08:42 - 61
Yes, they are. This does not change the fact that physical striking is not Lyssa's expertise. The magic inbued in it, however, is.
Mesmers are pure Lyssan, Assassins are mostly but they cannot rely fully on the might of their minds.

When Chapter 3 comes out ill name one of my new characters after you, the name shall be 'Avarre Wirlver' !
You are the avatar of Lyssa

With Factions, this is my build for this run:
Illusion of Haste
Expel Hexes (so you can continue running through siege ice golems with balanced stance)
Inspired Hex
Disciplined Stance
Shields Up!
Healing Signet
Balanced Stance
Illusion of Weakness
I don't really need a cover enchantment here, just recast it if gets stripped and try to watch at the avicara necro's skill activation bar
And for the rankor -> droks leg:
Illusion of Haste
Expel Hexes
Chanelling (cover enchant)
Disciplined Stance
Shields Up!
Healing Signet
Balanced Stance
Illusion of Weakness
Not many hexer here so there's room for some dummy enchants here
EDIT: corrected skill name for practiced stance -> disciplined stance.woops
01 Jul 2006 at 23:53 - 64
Practiced Stance? Surely if anything you mean Serpents Quickness.
