To Gaile Gray:
This is from a gwonline.net forum poster today:
((quote [ That's contrary to what I heard. At first, the general response from the stores was that there is simply a delay in the system, much like you said. However, the Electronics Boutique that I usually get my games from has recently informed me that they have looked into the availability of CE in Canada, but found out that the CE will not be shipped here.
For confirmation, I contacted another Electronics Boutique recently and the response was similar. The employee said that when there is a CE available for a particular game, both versions usually show up in their system after the official announcement. Since the CE is still not in their system, it seems less and less likely that we will be getting the CE in Canada. ] endquote))
???.....I guess this is still speculative, since retailer confusion still exists? Since, a previous poster here @gurus stated his canadian EB has it on their system already. But if you would please, Gaile, confirm to us of the situation for canadians and the CE.
/Thank You.

I hope Gaile gives a reply about this. Now I'm thinking that maybe just a small number of EBs here in Canada have in thier systems, like 1 store in each province. Or like you said,
But some info from Gaile(or even Alex) would be great.

Just a small update:
from pming Gaile: She said that CE will come to Canada. No specific numbers or venues. but the big name sellers should have it.
slightly off-topic, but I think should be said:
Anyone who has seen the "mark-up" of Amazon.ca 's GW:F SE price? ($60/no prepack) to $70/w/prepack)
It seems like they added a "$10" price raise just bcuz they finally mentioned that if you preorder the game, that it will come with the "preorder package"...
Wha??
They basically copied what futureshop.ca was doing...($75 CDN w/tax +prepack)
And here I am thinking (from what Gaile has said already), that Anet/NCsoft pays for the preorder package (no charge for retailers) and should be free for preordering the full game.
Also, Gaile mentioned in one of her chat logs, (someone said that Factions would be more expensive than Prophecies) which she replies, "Why would you say that?", it shouldnt be...(I dont remember if not exact words, to that effect).
I guess for Canadians, it will be more expensive, from what Ive seen so far + they state "While supplies last" for prepack. (lucky us! )
It seems like Canadian retailers are ditching the idea this time around. (which they followed for Ch.1 Prophecies and which worked well for customers.)

I preordered Factions at my local EB Games and received the preorder pack for free. So it sounds like only some stores are trying to make money off it.

So the game is $49.99 US and $69.99 CDN(price for normal version). Because I also checked bestbuy.com(US site) and EBgames and both have the same price($49.99).
Now thinking about it...if the normal version is $69.99 CDN(minus $10 for preorder package is $59.99), then CE will be $79.99 CDN(minus $10 for prorder package is $69.99). I may just buy the normal version.

yup. forgot to mention. Ebgames instore is $75(SE w/prepack/including tax) too.
seems to be all canadian retailers...
(btw. w/ dollar conversion. it should be about $10 more from USD to CAD...so what's up with this.)

EBGames.com has the CE edition listed on the website - $20USD more than the regular edition.
I never did phone my local EBGames and ask to see if the CE is under "Guild Factions". After seeing that difference in price, I just said forget it and pre-ordered the regular edition.

Thank you Mystical. You will also notice on the EBGames collectors edition webpage, it says "shipment to continental US only."
Just got off the phone again with my local EBGames, still no collector's edition in their system.

I just called my local (Winnipeg) EB games today (3/22), and asked about Guild Wars: Factions. They said they were taking pre-orders for it, but that it hadn't come in yet (I even asked about the "extra pre-pack"). Considering that the FPE is this weekend, and (from what I understand) you need the pre-pack to participate if you don't own Prophecies, somebody has really dropped the ball on this one. Thankfully I own Prophecies, so I can still participate. On the darker side of all this, they said they weren't getting the game until just before the release. So if they don't get the pre-pack in time, how am I supposed to get online for the 27th?
On a side note, I hadn't even brought up the CE at all. But I imagine the story is the same.
Update: I found a copy at another EB outlet after checking on a whim (why they aren't all linked, at least within the same city, is beyond me). It was the last one, and apparently each outlet only got about 12 pre-packs. The total cost was $70, so it didn't cost anything extra for the pre-pack. However, the CE still isn't in their system, although if they find out they're getting both versions, they said they'd contact all pre-order customers to find out which one they want.

This is getting funnier by the day:
Amazon.ca changed it back to $60 cdn....I am speculating here that, did they already run out of preorder packs? lol.
added: I forgot to mention that the prepack thing has a *, which says that it is somehow linked to "Amazon.com" not ".ca"...confuzor!...
/g'day.g'luck.

For anyone that doesn't know me from the pre-order thread in Riverside Inn, I work @ Best Buy. The SKU doesn't show in our 'store level' system just yet, but I'm going to be keeping my eye out for it and I'll let you all know as new information develops.
A few things...
1) The people that pre-ordered from Best Buy's website, did you get your pre-order key? Did you get anything in the mail?
2) I suspect that pre-ordering from Best Buy's website, when it was first available, is a pre-order for the regular edition. I recommend getting in contact with Best Buy customer service and switching it to the CE if that's what you're wanting. Pre-ordering the CE @ this point shouldn't give you any problems, however, I'm not sure how it'll work on the 'day before' access. I'll investigate this more later on.
3) If you pre-ordered @ the store level, just bring your receipt in and you get $10 off the regular or CE edition, whichever you want.

Ah, thanks a lot for the info. When I bought my pre-order package at the store, there was confusion with the employees whether it applied to the CE too.
I didn't see why It wouldn't, since that means we would be spending more money, but thanks for the confirmation.

I went to pick up my pre-order kit and the EB told me that they just ran out of CE preorders (i was going to change mine). I'm sort of glad that I did now. Not many bonuses that I would consider worth it, like the last CE, which gave you music, TS hosting, and a headset.
yangster
Thanks for the confirmation. Now I just hope I'll be able to get one.
I tried emailing Best Buy CS online about this mulitple times and they always ignored what I was trying to ask. I even sent them the gw website.

the 24-hour head start is from the preorder cd key
it works out as: add preorder cd key and you can play factions for 24 hours ahead of release, ahead of actually "having it" -in terms of its cd key.
They said on the site somewhere the purpose of 24 hours is to beable to jump right in ahead and keep playing until you can get out to the store to pick up your copy, or get it online. something like that.
and i guess the 2 more char slots would be added when you add the offical factions cd key.

If, on the day you pick up the product, the person hassles you about it.. ask to speak to a customer service senior. Explain the situation in a calm manner and say "there was no designation on what the pre-order was for".

That's what I meant about not knowing.
I don't know when the CE is going to 'arrive' @ someone's door or when it's going to be 'on the shelves' @ the store.
I'll post again when I find out more.

Maybe it's like the gaming console releases, where preorders can get picked up or are shipped the day before but the main stock doesn't come in till a little later?

I called Best Buy service and asked about my pre order and they had no info and told me I pretty much just get the game in the mail. I have sent GW support emaill asking why their website promoted and pre order pack with direct link to Best Buy and I have nothing for a pre order for this weekend. They forwarded my email to accounting and said GW would in touch with me very soon. I have yet to hear from GW support. I'm more than frustrated with this whole pre order deal and Best Buy along with how GW promoted it on the website making it appear all the sponsors offered pre order service pack.

Am I correct to understand that the two new character slots will only be given with the CE and not with the regular one? I read the description for the regular edition and it said nothing about new slots whereas the CE one did, so...

The only email I have from best buy is an update on the release date for the game which says now says April 26th. Nothing else in regards to pre order pack. I am so pissed I do not have a key for this weekend let alone might not have one for the head start before game is released. I'm still hoping GW support will follow up on this. I'll post when I hear back from GW support.

My take on the pre order is like you bought the game for a day (plus you free 2 items). So i think you can play factions for free in a sense a day before it releases - you go out and pick up your copy after - add the key - and continue forever. How else can you play before release, if it isn't released yet???

ok here is are the latest answers I have from GW and Best Buy. The first response is from Guild Wars.
"Thank you for contacting us regarding your Guild Wars Factions Pre-Order.The retailer that you choose to pre-order Guild Wars Factions from is responsible for providing you with a pre-order package. This pre-order box will provide you with everything that the pre-order includes. You will need to contact the retailer for further details about when they will make these preorder packages available."

The Guild Wars Support Team
I contacted bestbuy.com today and this is a quick recap of the conversation I had with Becky in customer support. Pretty much said that there was a limited number of Pre Order packs sent to Best Buy and it was first come first serve from the warehouse. She also conflicted her comments by saying first that the pre order packs would ship with the game itself. To top that off she said they have no way to know who would be getting the pre order packs. Bottom line here is Best Buy has no idea what the heck is going on with these pre order packs.
As for the Guild Wars team itself? I think the response they sent me says it all. They don't give a crap!!!!! Everybody just wants to pass the problem to somebody else. Time to cancel the order and find a new game to play I think.

Can I suggest you try (if one is available where you live) an alternate retailer? You may find you get a very different experience.

Any Canadians find it yet?
I went to both my local EBGames and FS today and stood beside the CSR (and looked at the screen) while they searched their systems for GW:F CE. They (we) searched for Guild Wars:Factions, Guild, Factions and Wars. It's not there.

That would be the Guild Wars Collector's Edition for $80, they do not have the Guild Wars Factions Collectors Edition. Please phone and confirm.

It's EXTREMELY complicated sometimes to mix bestbuy.com and store purchases. I've tried
If you purchased a pre-order IN STORE, you just show the receipt and get $10 off an IN STORE purchase of Factions.
If you purchased a pre-order ONLINE, you CANNOT use that to get $10 off an IN STORE purchase of Factions.
I'm not a big fan of online pre-ordering for releases like this, because there's too much that can go wrong. If you pre-order a generic product, it's fine. ..but here, you have to worry about getting the right product, getting your pre-access info, getting the pre-ordering pacakaging. It's really a pain in the butt.
On other news! I know who I need to talk to, to try and up the amount of CE versions @ my store. Going to see if I can maybe get the CE versions upped at all Best Buy locations.
