2nd prof for ritualist :S
temp
was thinking monk..... anyone got good ideas?
Miss Lanae
I did all the secondary profession quests today, and the one's i liked the best were mes/ele/monk/nec
it was down to nec/ele
and I figured nec has more chance to heal, and do damage...so i chose nec

You know something? I think the profession changer NPC should have the option of REMOVING the secondary profesion if you want too. I mean to go PURE whatever!!! You can do it in PVP, so why not in PvE too? 1/2 the time I never use my 2nd profession anyway. Especially when I'm stuck monking...

Great Avatar HT... it sure would make it a lot easier in some cases without that 2nd... I can't decide if I want to go /mo or /n either...
The /n would do better damage than a /mo, but would there be any reason to do a 55 ritualist build in the future?

I chose Elem as the secondary for my Rit. I plan on using the Rit lightning attacks with the elem ones. Also I want to see how the Rit Spirts and Wards work together.
I was going to pick monk originally but I dont want to get stuck as a healer. I already have a Monk Primary.

same question going through my head last night after i made my ritualist....i ended up picking necro and i'm loving it.

For some strange odd reason I choose mesmer for my rit and I cant really find anything to go along with it the more I think about it the more I want Elem cause I want to put the spirits up and maybe put wards and stuff around them making it harder to hti and stuff and with union should be pretty good keeping them alive but I went back to where in there pre and tired to change it and they wouldnt let me it made me so mad Im thinking about going all the way back to kryta and going to heros and having someone run me there but I want to keep ahead to so has anyone found a area where you can change your secondary yet in factions
Jetdoc
A very difficult decision for me personally.
Not to oversimplify (since there are many variations that you could develop and I'll probably get slammed for trying to genericize these)...
Rit/N - primarily a minion master
Rit/Mo - primarily a healer/protection
Rit/R - primarily a spirit spammer
Rit/Me - mostly for energy stealing to help keep rituals up
Rit/E - primarily for air spiker
I'm having a hard time finding a good use for Rit/W or Rit/A - anyone have some decent ideas for playing these?

I plan on mes as my second, some for energy stealing, but really more for mantra of concentration or resolve for those long cast times.
So far I haven't seen any wards or spells that will protect or heal a spirit.

A nooby question, but Is it possible to change your second profession throughout the game if you happen to not like it?

To the OP:
I went Rt/N for flexibility. It allows you to play a strong support character, as well as MM, as well as blood/lightning spike. It've overall quite versatile.
And if all else fails.

I have not pick my secondary yet but i think there is not other way than Ele. If you combine that lightning porwer with the ele power that would be a masacre. also u have those spirits to back u up in the middle of the battle hum u are untouchable.

Interesting group of posts here. There are many ways to play any class but to me the Ritualist seems to have alot more flexibility.
I am Rt/N and can think of ways to play MM, healer, protector and damager with it.
I thought about Rt/Mo but then thought about the pugs always wanting you to heal, heal, heal and whining when they die cuz it is always the healers fault they are stupid. Soo...pugs drove me away from anything that looks like a healer even though I can play one with the Necro secondary. The immature players probably won't recognize the Rit as a healer so I hope it cuts down on the whining.

I wanted to go a crazy route, and I went Rt/W. It is actually going ok so far. I use alot of the calls like "Shield Up" to aid my team. And there is always Bonnettis for the energy woes.

Im soon going to create a ritualist too, and ive found this topic to be helpful. But can somebody please tell me what is MM and what is spike?
Thanks
Thanks

I went with Rt/E since i am mostly spiking. I tried the Boon of Creation MM build and I couldnt get used to it, so I switched to ele and I like it much better.

Does anybody happen to know the most effective secondary proffession for a solo build for a rit and a tvt build? would it be rit/mo for solo and rit/nec for tvt?

Thanks MM is for a Minion Master necro build, several rit skills can heal minions.
Spike damage, your character has several attacks that stack and hit at once, a good spike will kill a guy before the monk has a chance to react.

Yeah, this IS a hard character to pick a secondary for. I ended up picking Nec as well, but for the wells instead (minions are fun though too!). I saw a pve Rt/N the other day using wells/spirits for players in the backfield and it worked marvels. Might come in handy later for some sort of stationary spike support build in HA as well (ranger spike, etc).

Could you elaborate on just how the wells worked? What tactics were used by the guy?
Thanks

I'm going to attempt a Rt/W build. Here is the skinny on it if anyone wants to try before I get mine up to level.
Going to try Vengeful Weapon, Weapon of Warding, And Generous was Tsungrai to stay alive. Vengeful will also be used to do alot of the damage.
Then it will be a mostly typical sword/shield build. i may use an offhand instead. no idea for certain. I figure riposte will go hand in hand with Vengeful weapon, a build based off of me getting beat down. It'll probably require a 16 Restoration. Enough sword mastery to use your sword of choice, the rest goes into stancing.
I'll get more accurate numbers on it in a bit if I can manage to.
Anyone care to give a hand? Drop a line.
in game for this char is Mista Raincoat

i went Rt/R and kinda trapped.... i set up the traps a few yards back my spirits, and then pulled into the spirits. worked well alot, but if you pull too many.. :S anyways i like it, took a bit of time to figure out correctly though... like when should you cast what
sir kelm
i went with necro for life stealing this helps alot to up yourdamge if you go pure communing like i did, also helps with healing

For me it was the R/N, I didn't go for the pure MM stuff. Instead this is the plan: Set spirits up in the back/mid-field and throw some attacks into the enemy untill there are some corpses around, raise them as minions and let them run around. The spirits add to te damage of the team and put effects on your allies/enemies then the miions takethe heat off yourteam while adding ore tothe damage, however using bone minions doesnt work so well when you hit the mainland because they usualy get killed to easily, (i kept my death magic up though for soul feast, which i use in emergancies.) but still having 4 spirits around your team helps.
But, like its been said, the ritualist is one of the most versitile classes in the game. Which can get very confusing at times XD

Pick Me
I just started the ritualist class, so I am not able to truly appreciate the complexities nor the versatility of this class. However, from what I know and what I've read about this class, I have chosen the Necromancer as my secondary profession. The Ritualist's main skill improves the health of all minions and spirits. So naturally I picked this class, as I enjoyed my Necro/mesmer and used her as a MM. Now that they have reduced the abilities of the MM build, a primary Ritualist seemed logical to re-create the MM build.
I have read in these postings that the Ritualist is the "most versatile" class (as the Ranger was in Prophecies). I think its because the Ritualist is the mishmash of Monk/Ranger/Necromancer. This means, the Ritualist will complement those three professions nicely. Samething goes with Warrior, Mesmer, Assassin, Elementalist. The Ritualist has self-healing, summonables (without the need for a corpse or charmed skill). The Ritualist can act as a magnet for PvE with some spells (holding urns and such - like holding a gear). Using stances from a warrior, or spells from an elementalist (like blinding flash) can make the Ritualist cast long (very long) spells and not take much damage (with a warrior, using balanced stance or something like that so you don't get knocked down when casting).
The best is really based on what you as a player are good with. Not necessarily what your character can do. If you can play a warrior really well, and have experience playing them as a secondary class, then a ritualist/warrior isn't a bad idea. I've tried some builds, and I found I wasn't very good with certain classes (especially as secondary), so some builds didn't work for me.
After testing each profession, I'm sure you'll find the one that you can use to compliment or better yet, deversify even further, your ritualist.

How786 I don't remember all of the skills, but I think the jist of it was Shadowsong, Soothing, Well of Profane, Well of Suffering, and Union. Whoever was in the frontline (assassins, tanks, etc) were allowing all of the melee enemies into the backfield on purpose and the Rit was pretty much shutting them down by herself. I haven't been in Halls or observer much lately, but this might work as an anti-IWAY build with a few tweaks (soothing + shadowsong especially). Or maybe not. I'd have to give it a go in person to see...

I think they fixed the aggro from holding items in one of the updates just prior to factions release.

What is a preferred build for MM? Like what skills are recommended?

Nooooooooooooooooo! That was one of the only ways to turn the tables on jerks who held items for ransom in missions! Now nothing to do but quit/start over!
Sorry, that was off topic. Anyway, great thread, giving me ideas for my Rit, thanks!

I go Rt/E mainly for Silver Armor, and Rt/me for echo , but after acquiring all the ritulist skills i decided to get all the canthan skills starting with the elites (meh maybe ALL the skills if i'm crazy enough ....which i am) so i go Rt/whatever for capping perposes :P
Prefectus
skill trainer in guild hall only will alow you to learn skills from the first chapter of guild wars so nothing for Rt or sins

I was wondering, for going through pve quickly as a ritualist what secondary would you think is best? Necromancer for being a MM or monk for extra support healing. Also, which would be used for farming later on? I am guessing monk.
ShazBo
Anyone ever tried a 55 Ritualist or a 55 Monk with 2nd Ritualist using Vengeful Weapon and Vengeful was Khanhei? Steal 30+ HP for 10+ seconds and each time you use VW you steal 50+ HP recharge time of 3 seconds. Both skills less than a second to cast and cost 5 energy.

Thanks MM = Minion master
It's a necro thing where they can summon around 10 minions from corpses
Spike = Massive damage dealing.
Spikes are generally used in GvG/Hero's Ascent (HA) so that the opponent can't be healed. A few examples of spiking skills.. Lighting Orb, Lighting Hammer etc etc

One character I created was a Rt/W, with warrior calls to help the team, like Shields Up or Watch Yourself. That worked for a while, but nobody wanted to take me in their group >_>
