Wow..I just got a very rude smack in the face by Anet. Upon leaving the Island with 115k Xp, I ventured to Tyria to finish out my leveling to 20. At this point, I am with 0 deaths, working towards the survivor title. I create a henchie team for the Kryta mission, and about 1/6th of the way into it, I decide I'm not in the mood.
So, I map out via the boat to Kaineng. Much to my dismay, I now have 1 death. If Anet wants to cut down on leavers who ditch their mission PUGs due to this title that's fine by me, but leaving my henchie team should not constitute a death.
bah!

Anyhow I suppose one could also skip it by quitting, then relogging to get to the start of that first mission.

I have played through every single Cantha quest. 80% is with 7 hench, 10% is 6 hench + one friend, 10% is for missions where henchmen are too incompetent (read pick up spear or urn) to complete the mission, especially with a master rating.

I will not exclude anyone from a pt (if I'm a leader) but... fear that this will cause people who advertise going for this title... to get a bad rap pretty quick, just like grabbing an War/Monk and in the back of your mind, hope there not going to shout at the monk and aggro too much until you see them play for a bit. Also not the explorer title and the no death title may never both get to 100%, you die in the "training" area aka 1.x% of the cantha map.. |
That death does not count towards deaths, start a new char, do that training, and do /deaths after and you will see.
I have a ranger going for survivor, and I join PuG groups, apparently the death of the NPC doesnt count, you know when ur party dies after the NPC dies. And quite frankly, if I die as a R/Rt then I pretty much dont deserve the title.
I have never left a party of players, there have been a few times where with Hench I have Alt+F4ed out, but I would never screw over a PuG like that. I want the title fairly, no power leveling, and no Fear Quiting.

I have an W/A teleporting her way to the survivor title. It is pretty easy, since I can always "recall" my way to safety

I want a Creator Of The Horde title for necro MMs. Every necro would have it, so we could all feel kinda special

I got the Treasure Hunter title.

Survivors? I avoid them like the plague. It screams 'unreliable', which is a pity for the few survivors that are legitamite good players.

I found it actually more easy to do in Tyria if you played it much.
In Cantha when you leave Jade Island you're lvl ~17 and monsters are lvl 20 so it's tricky.
But it Is faster in Cantha.
However, reached my first lvl of Survivor without leaving midgame or something.

Man with Factions you can solo yourself for the Survivor Title. I got to lvl 20 with just bots. The only quest I need real people for was for unwelcomed guest.

I dont see it as cheating pulling out on hencmen, since they are totally stupid at times, and I think aim to get you killed. When my hench start behaving like idiots I pull out, I odnt wait till im nearly dead, i just see that my hench selection is gonna give me a hard time, and leave them.

My Rituliast got survivor with the henchies and a few guild member groups, got it without even trying. Once on the main land... I got Dragon Stomped x2 at once. "hello rez shrine"

I've not yet encounterd a "Survivor Leaver",
Maybe Anet has to make it so,that you get an auto 1 death when you leave a party in a mission through maptravel.
Then they have to get that reconnect thing to work, and then they can also give "internet unpluggers" an auto 1 death
But alas, we will have to wait a long time before that happens

I always try for the survivor title with a new char, if I make it then thats great, if I dont...too bad. No biggie.
I know what I did to reach my titles, anyone who thinks they can judge me by it is making an assumption which, as we all know, makes and ass out of you and me

Tiltles Are design to add a new competitive aspect to the game.
Every one who complains are People who really finds that the title is to hard to get for themselves.
The requirement for each title is set, Follow those rules and you will get them Simple hey. Changing the constraints makes it unfair for the people who worked hard to get them.
If its means that people won't invite ppl into groups because they are tring for surviour title then that just makes it a harder title to get and is one of the many challenges ( DON'T Complain just because something is hard to get).
The requirement is don't DIE, If I was going for it Then I WOULD DO ANYTHING to not die, Remeber its Survival not ok we are oll going to die lets hold hands.
Titles Have there set rules Getting them is Up to you, IF you really want it bad enough then put the same amount of energy into doing them as you do in complaining and you will find them easy to do.
I have one major title and 3 minor ones with 4 others at about 80%, If I want surviour Then I will start a new char, The one that got all these other titles is my main char with over 3mil xp, but I have died alot.

OMG, I must rant! I am soooo pissed off about this title. About a week ago, I decided I wanted to go for the Legendary Survivor title. I've been working dilengently on it. I picked up Survivor after about the second day, just normally playing through the game with henchies. I continued to just play normally, doing all the quests and capping all the elites I could. I got to 586,927 experience. Then the unthinkable happened. While I was fighting a 6+ group of Naga, one of my henchies aggroed a group of Oni. All the Oni gang-raped me in the butt before I could do anything. So, now I'm very very very sad. All the work I put into the character, only to come up less than 1,000 experience shy of the second title in the title track. So sad.

I have a friend who's restarted about half a dozen times to get the Survivor title in Cantha with an Assassin. He's not the most diehard player but it's one of the few titles to really capture his interest. I'm not really sure why he chose the one profession that is voted 'Most Likely To Die' by the Shing Jea 2006 graduating class to do it with, but we've gotten him up to level 15 so far on Shing Jea Island to accomplish it. I'll be so happy when he gets to Survivor -- at this point, it's making *me* tired trying to help him get there.
Honestly, if I was going to make a character with the top Survivor title, I'd start a wa/mo in Cantha, get all the XP i could on Shing Jea island, then move over to Tyria and troll farm my way to the top with XP scrolls. Seems like the most efficient way to do it...
The other option would probably be Mo/Wa and be like the Chinese farmers.
But, yeah, i played Diablo2 on hardcore, and it really does make for a very different play style. Quitting out of the game is a viable strategy... I'd expect that anyone who played d2 hc to be able to get GW Survivor reasonably easily.
Unfortunately, my friend was a softcore mode player...

Guess what, I tried the Survivor title on a monk today. Was doing great, got to lvl 12 at Minister Cho's Estate. Intentionally I was going to do the mission with guildies cause they're lvl 20 and it'd be a breeze. But then a group of 2 monks invited me, I thought, hey I can't die in with 2 monks by my side can i?
So I gave it a shot, I was a partial smiter/healer and the other 2 were healers. We were nearly at the end of the mission, when some of the sickened guards were attacking me. My own healing didn't help and it didn't seem like the other 2 monks were doing anything. Goodbye Survivor title. Goodbye cruel world.
Currently I'm trying to find an easy way of getting to lvl 20 from scrap. No succes so far. :P

I gave up on survivor title when I realised just how it is messing up with my enjoyment of the game.
So even if I get survivor(1).. so what?
There is still the legendary survivor title at 1337500 xp to earn. Unless you are the sort who can be happy and contented with displaying a "Canthan Explorer (60%)" title in town, you really shouldn't bother with survivor, because that's exactly what it is. A cheap tier 1 title.

I'm almost close to just quitting Guild Wars over the survivor titles. Or at least stop playing indefinitely. Arenanet has gotta know that people will obsess over these things. I admit that if there's something I don't have, I at least want access to it.
Also, the survivor titles has also caused a lot of stir and debate. You've got people trying to declare who "deserves" this and that and who doesn't, while they aren't the ones who started the survivor titles and don't know if such thoughts like "deserving" were behind them. So it's not just how I feel when I play the game. It's the effects I see in other gamers which makes me considering quitting Guild Wars for good.

I have gained the survivor title but then died at 200k xp. I died at tahnakai temple, with a PUG group. I got it by making a w/mo in cantha, lvled up on the starter island then went to tyria to ascend.
I usually play spell casters, my favourite been my ele and i think this is the reason I got the title without actually risking death, I played like a ele, I was careful what i aggroed and knew when it was time to retreat a bit.
I would hope that the survivor title on my warrior would mean that players see me as a better than average wammo who isnt going to over agro and shout at the monks and lose the mission for the team, but by the sounds of things it will just make me look like a leaver, something I really dont want to be. I cant really hide the title either, my warriors name is Sur Vi Vor....
And for those who are unsure, the only way to get the title is to start from 0xp with 0 deaths. Once you die, the title no longer advances, but you do get to keep any lower title you have already gained.

Hi
Gents, I need to say few word to this topic. I see lot of people are upset over some players are quitting cause trying to get survivor title. You are saying this survivor title is crap and kills the game.
Not true.
What kills the game is crappy selfish players who have not ever learnt community behaviour and just quitting from teams without notice sometimes keeping their ambitions secret.
Nothing wrong with the title. The problem with people.
See this picture. That's me. I am really proud of it. Let me tell you something. People are playing survivor title because it is a REAL challange. Rest of the titles are easy: you will get them sooner or later. It is matter only of time. It is not matter of personal skills, attention, concentration. Only time. I can get all the rest of the titles, it just requires to invest time. Even rank 12. A lot of time, but you can never lose the option to do it.
Survivor is different. No way back. Once you fail, you failed. So...you must be perfect, you can never do a mistake.
People always try to walk the easy way and they never care about other people, thats the problem not the title: believe or not, I got my Legendary Survivor 99% with henches and I used PUGs only for missions sometimes (and I selected carefully BEFORE the mission, not during).
I never left parties, although I warned one group before game explicitly that if things look dire I will leave. I asked their opinion if that is ok, and they accepted my condition. That's all. Luckily I didnt have to do.
On my way to the Legendary Survivor title, I needed to log off only 3 times. Never happened with players. I never used powerleveling, I used mostly henchies, did almost all quests, captured elite skills, bought XP scrolls, avoided dangerous mission and places until I got the right people, and most importantly I recognized when I had to run and I did it. That's all. No magic. Just continuous concentration. It took 2 weeks.
So that is how _normal_ people are playing. If someone leaves it is not because of survivor title. It because of the personality of the guy. And sooooo many people leave who are not survivor, just open your eyes.
