Factions FAQ

Seeing that search is down, and I don't want to create a new thread, may as well ask here:
So I've just completed both attribute quests. Lost Treasure and Unwanted Guests. I recall recieving the reward for the Lost Treasure, but not too sure about Unwanted Guests. When I press 'H' to check my statistics, it shows I've only earned 185 of 200 attribute points possible.
The biggest problem is: When I return to the NPC that gives out the quest, they do not have an exclamation mark above their head. At the Lost Treasure NPC, when I talk to him, he thanks me for helping him retrieve his wife. When I am at Zunraa, he talks about protecting his valley and what not.
This could only mean:
1. one of my attribute rewards have been deemed 'void'
2. I have not recieved the reward at all, though there no longer is a quest with either of the quest names in my Quest Summary.
Oh, please let there be a solution, I don't want to delete my prescious Mesmer which I've spent several thousands of gold on her.

Opeth: Unwanted Guests is the one with the Kirin yes? and Lost Treasure with some guy and his lost love. For both, the reward is at the end as both the NPCs who give the quests accompany you throughout it's duration. The rewards are claimed on the spot when the obejectives met and i think you may have to repeat the quest again to claim reward.
Tibby: Vasburg Armory is further on from House zu Heltzer, where the normal 1.5k armor is found. Think of it as a Droknar's Forge - Granite Citadel thing, you reach Houze zu Heltzer first and then go on to Vasburg Armory.
If you only have the 65AL set might I recommend getting a set of collectors

Zunraa is of the Kirin species ^_^
There's my problem. Neither of the NPCs have an exclamation mark over their head and neither of the quests are on my quest log. I've made sure several times that I havn't minimized the tab for any of the quests.

Kalex I have made a mistake in that guide, I was recalling things from memory when writing it. Once finished with boreas seabed mission you do not get City Under Attack automatically.
Once finished you get put at Zos Shivros Channel and there you must talk to Imperial someguy and he gives you the City Under Attack quest. From there, finish it and then you gotta talk to the Emperor's Hand who is next to the emperor when you collect the reward for City Under Attack.
I think at the time of writing the Emperor's Hand is a bit bugged and does not have a ! above his head, but upon talking to him you'll find that he give you the next primary quest, Battle in the Sewers.
Opeth: :\ that's a real bad problem there... i mean i guess if you finished the quest or abandoned it then thats the only way to get it removed from your list. But one of the rewards (points) is missing, so you haven't finished it, nor have you abandoned it because it's not available again >_<.
Well I don't know what you could do but maybe turn to Anet and take up an inquiry. Sorry

So - I'm a little confused here still. Do I need 10k faction to get to House zu Heltzer? I'm stuck. Also - found out my guild is aligned with Kurzick, but don't remember if I picked Befriend the Luxons or Befriend the Kurzicks. I've ben stuck for like a week with no primary quests, and I've done all I could find
Frustrating - never had this problem in Prophecies... maybe they should give you "Hint" NPC's or something on what to do...
kalex80
thanks alot im finally moving along now after being stuck for 3 days.

Ok no worries as the whole Luxon/Kurzick thing isn't very permanent meaning you can switch if you chose the wrong side.
If I knew the last thing you did then I could help you o_O. Anyway.. uh heres a guide to befriending the kurzicks starting from Zin Ku Corridor after Tahhnakai Temple quest:
Quest: Meeting with the emperor - Given at Zin Ku Corridor
Quest: The Count's Daughter - Given at Zin Ku Corridor
Quest: The Count's Daughter - Updated outside Maatu Keep
Mission: Arborstone - From Tanglewood Copse go outside to Arborstone (explorable) and then talk to the lift operator.
Mission: Boreas Seabed - From Altrumm Ruins after Arborstone grab quest and head back to Pongmei Valley and then trek to Boreas Seabed.
Quest: City Under Attack - Given at Zos Shivros Channel
Quest: Battle in the Sewers - Given at Raisu Pavilion by Emperor's Hand after reward from City Under attack.
Mission: Sunjiang District - Led here by Battle in the Sewers.
Quest: Journey to Cavalon/Journey to House zu Heltzer - Given by Jamei at Maatu Keep after you finish Sunjiang District. These quests allow you access to HzH and Cavalon where you can buy stuff and craft armor.
Quest: Befriending the Kurzicks/Befriending the Luxons - Given by Elder Rhea (luxon) or Count zu Heltzer (kurzick). These quests require you get obtain 10000 unspent Kurzick/Luxon faction. The quests at the cities give some faction, as do repeatable quests and missions. Once you have the 10k points then talk to Elder/Count and claim reward.
Note: If you are there for the armor or jade/amber then there is no need to befriend them first. As long as you have positive favor for the Kurzicks for instance, then the armor crafters will talk to you and you will be able to craft the armor. Befriending a faction is required to advance through the storyline as the quests needed to get to Gyala Hatchery/Eternal Grove can only be gotten after you befriend them.
Hope that helps

Why i cant gain quests in Seitung Harbor, with my tyrian character?
Samueldg
anyone know what "stoneroot keys" are for?
Thrawn Foxheed
Foxi: Tyrian Characters can't get quests from Seitung Harbor because there is a certain quest graning 15 extra attribute points. Were it possible to get quests, you would be able to have 215 or even 230 attribute points.
Samuel: Stoneroot keys and Deep Jade Keys (I think) are for the elite mission's chests (again, i think). If it's the ones you can swap Equipment and Totems for then it's for the elite missions.

I have the same problem, I completed both quests, finishing unwanted guests last in which i checked my attribute level and it is only ay 185. How the hell can this be?

Where do you get the second 15atrib quest?
Not Lost Treasure
Not Lost Treasure
Thrawn Foxheed
Carnivore: Unwanted Guests is found in Seitung Harbor. Upon first arriving in Seitung, the Kirin in the south east corner will not offer the quest. Take the other quests leading up to Zen Daijun (or something) and finish the mission. Once finish, you end up in Seitung Harbor again where you can take the quest from the Kirin.

do i have o do the quest via the mission?
Thanks.

Mods, please add something to the sticky about the way faction works. If you have more Kurzick faction than Luxon faction, you can talk to and trade with Kurzicks. If you have more Luxon faction than Kurzick faction, you can talk to and trade with Luxons. If you redeem faction for either side, it takes faction away from both sides, so it's better to accumulate and spend faction for only one side at a time.

I was wondering, if my guild is alegned Kurzick and i want one char to be Kurzick and the other to be Luxon, will this affect my gameplay? Like, not being able to become Luxon, etc.?

If your guild is aligned with one side, the only thing that means is that you can only do alliance battles for that side. Plus, you can only buy favor for your alliance with that faction (in hopes of accumulating enough favor to control a town).
As far as your character being aligned to one side or another, the only thing that really matters is as I mentioned it before. If you have more favor for one side over the other, then you can deal with that faction. Otherwise, they will ignore you. You can temporarily "align" with one side by acquiring faction for that side. Then, you can easily "align" yourself with the other side by doing quests for the other side. A common practice would be to to get faction for one side to get either favor your your alliance or jade/amber if you're not interesting in controlling a town, then get faction for the other side to only get jade/amber. As I warned before, spend all your faction for one side before gaining faction for another side because you lose faction from both side when you redeem faction.

sorry for the noob question but...
unlike at chapter 1, you don't get skills (not the elites.. i noe you have to cap them) as rewards from quests? My character is canthan born (ritualist) and so far i've only been getting exp, gold and commendations from quests. i just did the Convocation Mission (where you need to kill a big purple giant squid - luxon mish) and haven't gotten a single skill reward since Shing Jea Island.. are you supposed to buy the skills.. as in all of em? im at 1000 per skill now and i don't wana spend any more -___-

Anet's reasoning is that it would cut down on 'cookie cutter' builds and that people would be free to experiment and use whatever skills they wanted rather than being limited to a certain set of skills until you reached the end of the game.

Yes, no matter what you or guild are aligned with, you can always access both capitals. Simply because you can take both Journey to Cavalon and Journey to House zu Heltzer and enter Cavalon/Hzh.
IF your guild is Luxon, you can still be a Kurzick but that just means you wont have faction to contribute to guild.

Sigh. It's like somebody doesn't want me to do the Welcome to Cantha quest. The person I should be talking to is not there at all. Can anyone tell me specifically who I should be talking to to get the quest and where this person is?
Thrawn Foxheed
Welcome to Cantha, well assuming you are a Tyrian Character otherwise you won't need Welcome to Cantha. Start off at Lion's Arch, take Mhenlo's Request from Firstwatch Sergio, at the end of that you should be at Benkunjan Pier (or something) and Mhenlo + Friends should be there, then you should get Welcome to Cantha :\.
At least that's the way I remember it.

I never had a chance to play in the preview events so I have a question...
How does one go about gaining faction for their respected side (kurzkick or luxon)? Do you gain it by completing missions/quests/alliance battles or what's the deal?

aye, ive just registered and got a question as well which is bugging me for a while now, i cant really seem to figure it out.
ive finished the quest befriending the kurzicks, explored the whole area, and basically done everything there. due to various reasons, id like to explore the luxon land as well. i know i need to do stolen eggs for that, but to get that quest i need to do befriending the luxons, and here comes my problem, i cant get befriending the luxons. elder rhea just wont give it to me. :/ i joined a random pug whose teamleader had stolen eggs, done the quest with them, hoping to eventually end in gyala hatchery as well, but the whole team left leaving me behind.
so im stuck not getting access to the hatchery. :/ what should i do? get the 10k luxon faction without quest and maybe rhea will give befriending the luxons to me or something?
id appreciate any help on this, and i hope i havnt missed it in this topic, was reading it in a bit of haste.
thanks in advance!

Don't know about that one :\. From my experience, my monk had finished the game going luxon and I wanted to explore the kurzick areas. When choosing Journey to Cavalon or Journey to House zu Heltzer, i picked both, resulting in access to both capitals. From my experience Befriending the Luxons is only given after claiming reward from Elder Rhea for Journey to Cavalon.
My solution would be to visit Jamei in Maatu Keep, take Journey To Cavalon and then talk to Rhea again? If not then.. well it might be a bug :\.

yep, that was the one. someone just messaged me in game telling me the exact same thing, so i tried and i got befriending the luxons from rhea. my problem was, that when jamei first gave me journey to cavalon, and i came there, i abadonned it without getting the reward thinking id end being a luxon. so yay, now it works. thanks a boatload!
