Per Voxy Voo, no more storage for you in Chaper Two

Ok well I'm glad I didnt link yet and in a surprising turn of events I might have a return.
It's getting really old how little our $50 afforded us when linking.
But we'll have the options to buy more character slots. Also read mules.
Because we're getting overstuffed to the gills on things we need to store and track and use as part of gameplay. But being allowed nowhere to put it.
Chat on superior runes of holding, helping us with holiday items, and hey with another $50 how about more in the account storage? Even the no monthly fee Diablo2 had this with LOD. No? WTH?
And you're kidding yourself if you don't feel this game has a monthly fee, it might even be more expensive than other MMORPG offerings which offer you almost limitless character slots and bags that go into inventory WITH THINGS IN THEM! and auction/trade systems to help move what you don't want!
I was ready to eat even a couple more character slots but its quite clear we're going to be nickled and dimed ad infinitum. Want your slots, storage, music? Pony up bucko. So much was talked about and IMO little delivered. Buggy, things still missing, and now yet something else many of us were expecting won't be here. Maybe they'll talk about all this for chapter3 and that'll just happen to disappear as well.
Oh well I don't want this to go on long. This has gone on long enough.
Shame as quite frankly I found GW (chp1) to be a terrific game.

If you have counter information back it up and link it (Raiin and any others with blanket statements)

ArenaNet ARE going to fix the storage problem, they have already said so, they just couldn't have it done in time to match with factions coming out.
There, problem solved.

This whining about storage etc is getting old. AT NO TIME HAS ANET PROMISED TO INCREASE THE SIZE OF STORAGE. They are working on changes to how storage works. These changes will NOT be a ch2 thing, but rather they will be a Guild Wars in general thing, meaning everyone will get it regardless which chapter(s) they own.

its about time we get storage as i cannot do any pve as my primary account is full of perf items and i cannot pick up any drops. i wish we could have a donkey with bags follow your char around or something. would solve the problem.

Dargon, include a link or that is more just unsubstantiated yammering.
As to whining, yeah I'm a real bugger because all that chat from Gaile amounted to squat which I could link for you if you need it. I'm still waiting and I've spent the $50. Question is now whether I undo the transaction.
The Herbalizer, yep it's insane how loaded up we are and how ready ANet is to give us tons of crap to keep on top of and we still have no new support for handling that per our entry fee, nor good ways to get rid of some of it with an auction/trade system.
Supposedly we get a lot more when linking but I think too many 'less' things are adding up (2 characters slots, no new storage additions). And it looks like only to continue.

Gale has mentioned more then once about making storage more efficient. They have said nothing about adding more storage.

Well, I for one am looking forward to anything directed to the storage. I run out of space pretty quick.

Not trying to harp on this or anything, but I'm curious as to how this will actually work out.

So your accounts are full of farmed items that don't do any good for your characters or gameplay whatsoever with the exception of providing a self-conceived illusion of wealth generated by "items" that are nothing more than bits of data. That sum it up? Makes it hard to sympathize.
Regardless, changes to storage are coming that will make it more efficient (but not increase the number of slots). Factions gives your linked account up to 100 additional slots of storage right now anyhow, so be patient and quit whining or you'll get a time out.
Besides, with the increased drop rate of high quality items, those things you have stored are fast becoming obsolete or "worthless" (from a purely farming perspective...), so you might as well dump them quickly. Then you'll have plenty of space.

The casters have to have even more items. Mine need to be pvp ready so must have multiple armor sets. All the staffs, wands and offhands start to take up space.
By then space is limited most of the time non-existant.
Also the referrence to things becoming worthless. I honestly dont care. I am sure unconditional weapons will only increase in price so its all good . I only buy skins which I like and I pay way under their true value so I barely if not at all lose anything.

i cleaned out some of the middle grade things to the merchant to make room for better goodies later and found out i had a lot of to be honest junk that no self proclaimed elitest would touch let alone buy
i freeded up one mule account almost completely

My bags are full with greens and armour, which I use depending on situation and build. I have a ranger, do you know how many different bows I have depending on the situation?
My Storage is filled with Materials. Each of my Tyrian characters (4) have 5 free space slots. This is AFTER throwing away some "useless" crap. My newly made Canthan has quite a bit more though. Storage needs to be increased, and the sooner the better IMHO.
On a side note: Xunlai Agents make crappy use of their storage. You can see all their chests in Kaineng Center, behind a big iron fence. There's A LOT of free space left for more storage.

Rangers aren't much better off. There are FIVE types of bows, and realistically you want at least 2 suffixes of each. And again, armor, and other stuff to carry.
And if people DO want to farm, so what? Everyone should be entitled to play the game the way they want, but this is a totally uneccesary handicap. Sheesh, people have even offered to pay real money for extra storage (I know I would), so for some of us, it's really bad.
Slimcea
In terms of Storage Spaces (i.e. 20 units), if you hoard materials, that's one Storage Space gone. Collecting Crystal Desert and S. Shiverpeak (and now Factions) collector items? Another 20 units. That's one full character's worth of space gone alone. If you're running multiple armor sets and weapons (this problem is more apparent in Warriors/Rangers/Assassins), its another 20 units or so gone. This is to say nothing of stuff that you might want to collect.
Quite obviously we're short on storage space. The ability to purchase mules is a god-send, but honestly, its extremely pricey and quite frankly, if the reason storage isn't increased is to "encourage" us to buy new slots, then it stinks of ANet trying to milk us dry.

From that article you linked to I dont see anything about storage in his words. The closest thing that Voo talks about is inventory size. To me that means the bags and such that you have on your chars. As far as I know they werent talking about increasing that in the first place but storage on the other hand. Gaile has said a few times that they are working on more storage. This is the Xunlai agent one. Didnt seem like anyone else caught this....

Voxy said no plan to increase character inventory.... we already knew that!
Expansion to xun agents storage as well as guild storage is on the way! Check out the numerous interviews with a-net folks....

what will happen is that Anet will give us more storage space -- we will use it up quickly -- and then complain for even more... I predict that as long as guildwarsguru exists, there will be an active thread about needing more storage.

He or she said no storage plans for factions. Factions is released, the bigger question is what was the question? we only saw the answer.
What if the question was will be be getting more storage for factions or in the future. The answer was no storage increase in factions. Which was known already. There has been talk from gaile asking for more storage. We want more free storage (free meaning no 10 dollars in real money for x amount of slots.) In Wow you could purchase a storage slot and put a bag that held 10 or so items. and purchase up to 5 or 6 bags for each storage slot. Each one you purchased the gold cost was dramatically more. I.e slot one cost 50 copper (50 gold in GW terms) Second slot 10 gold (10 plat in GW terms) 3rd slot 25 gold and etc....it would be a wonderful gold sink and you could get another 100 items in storage. The last slot could cost 100plat. I have no issue with that scenario.

As far as item reserves is concerned. I've been holding a very few junk items, no require longbow (used with hench). Most of my lack of storage comes from crafting materials, multi armors, 4-5 weapons + 3-4 focus, x-mas items, candy canes, haloween items and now a tengu mask (hehe)...
Most of my complaints about storage is if i used a mule account to store stuff, it would be totally inconvenient. I have the 6 char slots and am fine with that. Most people can't even perfect one character, let alone have 8 different primaries to master and end up being totally weak with each one. I personally have no desire to use a ranger or mesmer and probably wont bother with an assassin so that leaves me with one slot to do with whatever... YAY! More storage will be a luxury for me!

My storage is filled with weapons I use depending on the situation. Materials to trade to the Collector's, crafting materials, runes (for future use), and holiday items. My storage is full.
None of the items there give me the illusion of wealth, in fact, I am poor, and those few green and gold items I DO have, I use.
Crafting materials, weapons, armor, quest items, holiday items, fill up most of my storage, not to mention the drops that are supposed to be my source of income.
We were told about improved storage, and you can't blame those that expected the storage improvement when Factions came out, since Factions effectively strains your storage capabilities further.

i don't see why people need more storage. if you have 1.400.000 gold. why do you need more, it makes no sense. there nothing in the game that costs anything near that amount of money.
noone needs more storage space, everyone wants it. there is a BIG difference

No one needs more storage, but you have different armor sets, different items to fight with based on a certain situation, and the materials required to craft them.
The reason why the level cap was at 20 was to make people use skills creatively to defeat opponents. And having multiple weapons and armor sets is doing just that; being prepared and adapting to a situation.
No, the improved storage was not tied to the release of Factions, but with the miniatures and Tengu Mask event, you realize that ANET has the time to do these extra things for players, which is nice. But I would prefer that improved storage be worked on or Factions tested even more extensively, for bugs, rather than these extras (that fill up our storage too).

World of WarCraft's storage system was *ALMOST* brilliant. I say that because in order to get more storage, you had to pay an increasing fee each time. This made it a money sink as well!
The reason I say ALMOST is because there were practically limitless characters, and each had their own unique storage, and transferring items was a sinch. There was never a pressing need to find room for all the items you would want to keep, just a desire to keep them all on one character that extra storage would quench.
In Guild Wars, it would probably work well. The people who need that much storage anyway probably have some money to spare. It could start out cheap with an extra line of storage barely costing any, like mayb 100g, but then the costs get greater and greater, so having a TON of storage would cost quite a lot, but you can still get a little extra for only minor fee.

Yeah, starting bids on perfect fellblades were 5mil once.
Makes ya wonder what a perfect crystalline would be...
However, better drops means less money needed?
My main char is a warrior and once I get factions, i'm going to need parts of the berzerkers armour for a few reasons (yeah so I want to use several superiour runes....). For other purposes I'm going to need that stance armour. If knight global thing becomes local then I'll need a full ascalon set for other reasons too. And when I feel like firing off mass 20+ energy skills, I'll need glads+weapons+offhands.
Maybe I'll use a build that has 13str for some reason, i'll need sentinels armour for that.
If I want to be as effective as possible then I'll be dragging several weapons around at all times. Elemental of slaying and others. Then think about the different types of weapons. swords, axes, hammers, bows, wands. A warrior can use them all but not a single one of them can be used as an all-purpose weapon.
Even now in Tyria, I carry at least 4 different shields, 5 different axes (still working on perfecting the others -_-)
Strangely, storage isn't that much of a problem for me.
Still, there are those people with several birthday presents, pumpkinhats and other similar things.
dunno

I always laugh at those people that say they need to use different armor sets and weapons. NO YOU DON'T!
I get by with 2 bows and 1 set of Druid's armor. With 3 extra masks. That's only 4 slots used. Add Sup ID kit, salvage kit and Sup salvage = total of 7 slots used. Include my Pumpkin Crown, Wintersday Hat, Grenth's Horns, and Tengu Mask = 11 slots used.
The rest is not necessary to play the game. If they gave you more storage, you would have more crap, and then cry for even more storage.
Too bad. Learn to manage your storage better.

Wanting more storage is not the main problem expressed by the OP... it's that when Arena.net finally offers the option to increase it, in what form will the user be penalized? If it is all in-game, then most people will have no problem. But, as the OP points out, if they want to nickle and dime us with REAL $$$ for this option, then that's a huge problem that will only get worse over time. Once they feel that the public accepts the corporate hand dipping into our wallets for "micro transactions" they will continually create artificial shortages for things that were once part of the package.
We paid $50+ for Factions advertised as a full stand alone game and if we merge we have already been robbed of around what? About a hundred slots? One extra storage bin with 20 slots - gone. Two extra charater slots - gone. People will whine, complain, beg Arena.net to do something. And what do you know... in comes the microtransactions charging us $10 a storage bin and some of you will kiss their feet for screwing you over.
I hope I'm wrong, but after seeing people slobbering over the chance to buy character slots, I won't be surprised if (when) it happens. We bought two FULL games and to best navigate between both worlds we have to merge... losing two slots (AND A STORAGE BIN) in the process. In comes Arena.net demanding payment to rectify their manipulated shortage. What good is it to advertise GW as being the alternative to monthly fees when they nickle and dime you instead. At least the monthly fees, instead of artificial shortages, are honest and up front.
If you guys let this be successful, come GW 2 don't be surprised to see microtransactions required for:
- Access to exclusive areas included in a product you've already bought
- Special weapon enhancements
- More color selections
- Pets (with a 20% "birthday" discount no less)
- More character slots than the starting two that you get with full purchase... remember we already got a net three each with the Faction/Prophisies merger instead of four each, except ONE STORAGE BIN DISAPPEARED!
Even if you have the money to spare (which I do), don't support this approach at all. It'll only encourage other game companies to cutback on game content they used to otherwise give to us with our paid purchase. If they want to get $$$ for extra content, let them include it in the expansions and then charge us that one price where they think is appropriate, or be straight up and charge us monthly. This backdoor approach of making people think Arena.net is doing them a favor by addressing forced content shortchanges with surcharges up the ying-yang is ridiculous.

And don't forget the crafting materials (which is all I have room for in my storage). They've added even more of them with Factions (Mud/Clay, as well as increased demand for Vials, etc).

What ever happened to guild storage. That was all the big talk for a while. When I saw you could have storage in your guild hall, I was all excited but it turned out to only be what you have access to in any town. I see a lot of talk, but not enough action from A-Net!!
Pevil Lihatuh
Well the way I see it, you're still better off than a normal MMO. I play a few MMO's, so lets see:
Game cost: £30 (ignoring expansions)
Usual subscription fee: ~£9 per month = £108 per year
Often extra char slots available: ~£6 per slot
That makes around £144 for one year of play (assuming you bother with a char slot of course
Guild wars: £30
Guild wars chapter 2: £30
Char slot: say 2 so you can play 1 of each profession, ~£15
That makes £75 for the first year (well 1.5 years with factions delayed )
I really do have to wonder what everyone needs all this storage for. I must admit I don't pvp, so that of course has some bearing. However with 6 chars currently (ignoring my 2nd account, which is now going to be a storage account thanks to purchasable char slots BUT ISN'T YET) I have no storage problems.
My main is my Ranger, who does a lot of PvE and farming. She has the bottom 10 slots filled up with Horns, Pumpkin, Tengu Mask, Trapping Staff, Zealous bow and a couple extra things like that. She then has usually 4 ID kits and 1 Superior Salvage. This leaves her with the top 25 spaces + another 10 slots empty.
I use up 11 of my stash slots on common materials (1 pile of each) and sell off surplus above 250. I use the other 9? slots for rare materials or things I want to pass to another character. I have one set of armour that I wear (though considering getting a second set for farming purposes). I have a ton of space.
Though I can see my 2nd accoutn filling up, as I'm now saving up anything I find ready for whenever they do the auction house, so I may have problems in the future. But for now, I have tons of space left.
Oh and this is collected over a year btw, so its not like I've only had 3 weeks to collect junk

I don't have a storage problem - it's the principle of the thing that I object to. I have my one PvE character from last spring and the rest are PvP experiments. I have a ton of money from early farming (and running a farming school at Perdition Rock for awhile - $12K a lesson), but I don't care about most of the PvE trinkets that people stock up on.
I only have my 1.5K armor with one alternate piece of each for different 16 Att builds, six weapons, two focus items, and a bunch of gold items I recently got that I'll sell soon. I sold my birthday Hydra for six figures, so I am hardly a packrat. I would've started a PvE Assassin for later PvP use if Shadow Refuge wasn't nerfed so hard, making me lose interest.
I just don't want microtransactions to slowly creep into every aspect of online gaming - not just Guild Wars. The sooner the public rejects it like New Coke, the sooner we can go back to worrying about stuff that matters - like balancing the professions better.

i've been patiently waiting for more storage for a long time now, and i was REALLY hoping it would come with factions. lets all face it- there IS a need for more space ... whether it be added character space, larger xunlai box, or even guild storage. most of my characters have 3/4 of there inventory filled with assorted weapons, armors, etc and have VERY little room to pick up drops.
lets just take my warrior for example. in the inventory is a set of attribute helms (superior axe, sword, hammer, strength, and tact - - minus the one im wearing) so thats 4 slots right there. i also keep a set of Lts helms (with each rune) so thats another 5. now maybe one or two Lts helms would do the job, but i dont feel like switching runes when i switch builds. and on that note, i have 2 extra glads pieces for when i run a max tact or strength build, so thats 2 more slots ... actually 3 counting the stonefist gauntlets as extra armor. moving on to weapons ... i keep a sundering, vamp, furious, zealous, and elemental version of both sword AND axe, so theres another TEN slots for weapons not counting the HoD i farm titans with. dont even keep the hammers on him anymore. shields needed? yup! granted, i keep more on me than most do, but lets just say that a stance, hexed, and enchanted shield is darn useful for farming builds. factor in the pumpkin crown, santa hat, and ID and salvage kits and youll see where im going. pretty full inventory just for PvE. dont even start me on the customized weapons i keep for PvP ...
im a packrat ... ill admit it. i like to save dyes, rare materials, greens, and enough common crafting materials to forge new armor if the need arises. i also have a nifty collection of req8 swords, bows, hammers, and axes that are spread out across 7 characters on 2 accts. call them trophies, call them unneccessary, call them what you want, but i think everyone has SOMETHING they just like to hold on to.
what i would really like to see is the "bag in bag" idea implemented to a point. heck, have a bag trader NPC that sells "specialized inventory bags" for 50k a pop and id still buy em. they could limit the number of them per character to keep server load down (so no char could have a full inv of storage bags) while giving each char a place to store NECCESSARY stuff that just doesnt fit the particular build theyre using now.

4 masks, 8 bows, 1 Hammer, 1 sword, 1 shield, 1 staff... That's a minimum. |
You should take a closer look at a more efficient use of your skills and not lean so heavily on the "crutch" of items!

Sure, I can get by with 2 bows and a staff ... anyone can. Would you rather "get by" or "do well"? Honestly.
I carry some bows with poisonous strings, elemental strings, zealous/vamp, etc, lots of different grips, flats/recurves/shorts/longs/horns ... all are suited to a particular task or playing style.
It's super your playing style is only suited to 2 different bows (or not and you make do) but don't dismiss people who carry items that have more benefits in a wider range of situations. I agree that skills and the effective use of them are 95% of your success as a player, but there is still a place for gear

Everyone says that you don't "need" this, you don't "need" that, "stop whining" etc. etc. But it's a game. We pay money for it expecting to be entertained. Some people enjoy collecting things. Why would they not want to include as many things as they can that people enjoy? Unless it is their intent to nickel-and-dime us.

And xunley (sp) storage has dye in it and the random materials which I haven't been able to sell to the trader due to there being under 10.. so that's completly full.
So yeah, I'm looking forward to more storage space, if such a thing will eventually exist.
