You know those professions that never seem wanted on missions?
Rangers, Mesmers and Necros?
They are absolutely needed on this mission, the tank wedge doesnt work because the dragon cant be melee'd. The dragon is susceptible to poison and conjure phantasm and necro degens, and can be interrupted, even dazed (poison broadhead arrow ftw). Orders necros and ritualists can increase the damage, and elementalists can inflict at range as well.
Warriors and assassins are still very useful for taking out the afflicted and minions as soon as they spawn, and generally protecting your range damagers. If everyone knows their role, it should be successful.

ArianeB is correct, we had no problems at all since our group was mixed when we did this mission and the degen/posion was the key!

I completed this with Master's Reward (got XP and skillpoints etc), and found myself from Harvest Temple. BUT the swords didn't come over the Unwaking Waters (Luxon) outpost, and it keeps flashing like it hasn't been completed... I've gotten to Raisu Palace and completed the game, and still the damn thing is flashing.. Anyone else had the same? :P

@Kaguya
I can also confirm that, i got 3 swords and the mission is just flashing when i look at it, i sent an email to A-Net 2days ago, no reply yet.

ya as said before a MM and a interupted ranger is realy needed in this mission.
If you still cant beat it get a passiv prot monk that helps alot against the spikes of the dragon

The caster/ranger idea is overrated. Melee is just fine. You barely have to touch the dragon to get him to shut down the barriers, just have a mesmer give him 10 degen. Once you get up to the tower, he is no longer flying, so you can hit him in melee. Spamming deep wound is a good idea here.
Also, have your casters hold onto the res orbs, theres 2 or 3. The 10 degen int he tower will kill you other wise. So once you start dying off, use an orb, and you'll come back and the degen will be just about up. He only degens you once as far as I know, then you just finish him off.

No no, just for this particular mission.
People disregard any and ALL forms of melee for this mission since the first part is unreachable to melee. but it only takes 1 or 2 chars to bring him down enough to shut down the barriers.
I love spellcasters, don't get me wrong.
But for THIS particular mission, people go with ALL spellcasters and rangers, which hurts you in the end up at the tower. it's a big waste, you need 1 or 2 melee'ers at least or you're gonna drop like flies in the tower, and that is why this is so hard for people.
I've been every profession, I know how it is. I love mesmers personally.

yup i had the same, masters and everything, and keeping inline with the thread, warriors are needed to destroy the spores the dragon creates while the necros rangers mesmers are attacking him.
Kira Sassan
I completed the mission with my Monk at Master with hench, then went on to complete the game. Just looking back now and also noticed that it doesn't show my mission as completed.
Mister Muhkuh
this mission was very easy(full hench team, even luxon party) and ive beaten it in a bit more than 10 minutes
, but the swords are not shown on map

Hmm I think some of the information in this thread is wrong....
I played this mission like 6 times to finish it and here are the things i noticed:-
1. You cannot interrupt the dragon spells. Tried Cry of Frustration/Complicate etc but he still casted his scales. Can someone verify that they can actually interupt his spells? cause i sure couldn't. Maybe you can interupt lighting spell by spamming but its way to fast to react to it.
2. Although you would think mass degen is a good way to finish him ... I found its not. I was at first a max illusion mesmer / degen necro. I had atleast -15 degen on him most of the time but this guy has like crazy regen so its really really slow to degen him. And also since hexes only lasts for a short time its really a waste of your mana.
3. Doing mass damage really fast is the better way to kill him. I switched my Me/N to Domination/Blood and used Energy burn, surge, wastrel, vamp gaze, shadowstrike etc. This way you can do lots of damage to him fast. You also need a few Eles that can add to this spike damage. ie your team should be able to bring his health down fast within a few seconds.
Here are some general pointers..
1. Kill the mobs before your attack dragon. Ele's first if you can can since they do some mass damage then go for ritualist and make sure he doesn't cast "flesh of my flesh" which resurrects.
2. Try and avoid the dragon scales if you can. just dont go near it and they disappear after a while.
3. After mob is cleared, ignore the scales if there are any left and just spike the dragon and you should bring his health down fast before he brings up another mob. If you do this fast enough you only have to fight the initial mob at each gate and he will open the next gate when his health goes down. Repeat this until last gate. Use rez urns etc properly if you need them.
4. Once you get to the tower, having a couple of melee tanks will be helpful now and they can also attack the dragon with melee here. Just keep moving away from his scales and keep mass damaging him. Monks should be able to keep you alive rather easily here. Throw a few well of bloods or something if your team loses a player. Use rez signets if need be. If the dragon is attacking you, keep dancing left and right as it is possible to avoid his fireball by dancing like with glint.

Um.. why would you put 15 degen on him? it does nothing after 10.
He has no regen, just a ton of HP.
and I choose degen over just mass damage because you can just have 1 person putting degen on him while everyone else can attack the afflicted. Works for me and my party, gone through it twice.

Well I thought he had regen cause he does regen back fast if you dont attack him or have hex on him. But again just you having -10 degen on him is not gonna bring his health down fast enough so you have to fight more mobs he spawns. I found having mass damage spiking is better.you only have to fight minimal amount of mobs this way because you can get him top open the next gate right away... Maybe your party contributed more than you think but I didnt find degen/poison etc to be THAT helpful. it does help but slowly so yea having just one guy doing this will definitely help but it is not the key to beating this mission. You need a pretty balanced team to do it. 2 wars, 2 eles, 2 monks, mez and nec(he can do the degen) works good. Mez's dom damage and Nec's blood damage is good here cause it ignores armor. so if you have those as a secondary prof use those skill lines.
MelechRic
Just rolled through this on my MM and got the masters too! I brought fiends and that's all I needed to really hurt the dragon. I put Rotting Flesh on him to for a nice bit of degen.
I took all henchies:
1 MM <-- me
2 Warriors
2 Monks (prot/heal)
1 Ranger (Aidan)
1 Ele (Cynn)
1 Necro (Eve for BR)
9 Fiends plus a Golem most of the time. Horrors in reserve if Fiend skill got interrupted. The Fiends work nicely from the bank because the dragon hovers out of melee reach.
At the end in the tower I had no minons. I just waited for a warrior to drop and put up a Golem. After the warrior was rez'd I had 3 melee on the dragon with Cynn doing fireworks and the rest of us wanding/firing.

By the way, yeah I had the same problem with the 3 swords.

I umm was a warrior and took my favorite henchies and beat it in 13 minutes no problem... so I don't know how you have trouble.

i did this mission over 10 times before i cmpleted it and got close many times. Patience is what you need (and a good interrupter)
Mr D J
Totally lame mission.. hate it so much... stuck on it too. There is no people and the other team is usually henchies too so there is noone to interrupt the stupid dragon and he lays these eggs down and henchies stand in degen zone and die like flies. Sigh... Anet couldnt have made it easier...
BrotherGilburt
I'm am haveing alot of trouble with this mission too. There are two problems.
1(. I am luxon. When there Kurzack team joins it is always a 1 player 7 henchman team. They always die fast and we can't res them) 2(. There is a huge shortage of professions in this mission. There is always very few people in it. Are teams are almost always thrown to gether almosty rsndomly because we can't find certain professions. I would skip this mission if Anet let me because its so impossible to do at this point.) Do I just have to wait for more people to get to these missions??? I don't want to wait. I played and got there for a reason. I want to beat the game. It doesn't seem like I'm going to beat factions any time soon. Brother Gilburt Elaine Donnerbalken
I did the mission as an A/W with 2 henchteams and got the master award. Maybe the scales were bugged as I didnt notice big degeneration. The luxon disruption hench was enough disruption to deal with the dragon.
Sendai
I henched this mission (7 hench on my side + 8 luxon hench) with a 55 armor assassin (i'm saving for an amber armor).
Just don't attack the dragon before you killed every afflicted on the map and stay far away from him. When every mob in the area is killed, just put your henchies near the dragon and they'll eventually weaken him. Keep an eye on your radar and go back as soon as you see the corrupted dragon scales. At the end when you can melee the dragon, use an interrupt skill for his corrupted dragon scales. Sir Mad

Then bring interupts if you can (or dazzing skills) or take interupt henchies. I've posted in the other topi about this how I made in 9 mins with 15 henchies
![]() BrotherGilburt
got it!
Both groups where all people except one healer henchie on the kurzick team. No one died and got three swords! it was easy! You just need really people on both teams! Or it can be done with henchs if you know what your doing. ![]() Brother Gilburt Linkusmax
If you move quick enough You can skip the second mob in the mission by running past the dragon and up the ramp to the far leaft, then when they walk past stroll back down and lay the pwnage on the Dragon, With henchies make sure to ctrl-click him and ctrl-click the corrupted scales skill when he uses it in order to get the interupter henchie to hit it.
Also when you appear in the tower run under the dragon straight away and the first volley of scales will be out of ranger of you. I have done this mission with multiple characters and had no problems. SisterMercy

If you still cant beat it get a passiv prot monk that helps alot against the spikes of the dragon A minionmancer is fine up until the very end. Where at least someone in your group will want to watch the cinematic. Then, it's bye-bye minion army with no fresh corpses to spawn another (unless your team is dropping). And half of your MM's skillbar is now wasted. SS is also a poorer build than other things a necro can muster here, once you get to fighting Kuunavung. Prior to that, all mob-combat tricks work, of course, but the best rules of thumb are: 1) Use degen and poison and lots of it, 2) Interrupt the dragon spores skill (it's a long enough cast, it's easy if you have a good Mesmer or Dshot ranger) llsektorll
it really depends on competant monks here... you need degens from poison/disease/phatasm and others... remember to get a ritualist with recuperation to counter teh spores mass degen. It also has a bit to do with luck... you are better off with a good other team than a bunch of henches in this one...

The Corrupted Spores leave corpses.
I thought it was odd too. But I beat the mission with me as the MM, an Assassian, and everyone else Henchmen. MaglorD

You can interrupt his skills. The worse spell is Corrupted Spores. However, what I noticed is the interrupts don't always work for some reason. So you need many interrupts. I used both mesmer cry of frustration and ranger distracting shot. I tried first A/R and then switched to A/Me. Only the mesmer cry of frustration got through once. This was when fighting him when he was flying over the chasm. However, after the cutscene, more interrupts got through. I had both the Luxon interruptor Damien and my Kurzick domination henchie. The fight after the cutscene was relatively easy compared to fighting the afflicted outside.
I did this with just me and rest all henchies, even the other team. I was Kurzick. NinjaKai
I am particularly frustrated with this mission. I don't like the fact that I have to depend upon another team that for all I know could be a bunch of hench.

You can also skip the mission if you do enough damage to him. My first team (hench) didn't fare too well since I couldn't tell the ground control to do their job while I (a mesmer) did mine. The second group I was in had me, a curse necro, and a blood necro and ground control (2 assassins, 2 warriors and 1 monk I believe). The dragon didn't even get to the first gate before we were warped into the center for the final battle <5min.
I can confirm though, mesmer interrupts do not work on the dragon, though they should if ranger ones do *mutter*. Cygnus_Zero
I henched it with my SS Necro, and aside from 1 specific spot that got a little hairy, it was actually surprisingly easy. Those spores can be troublesome if you don't deal with them quickly.

I think I might have to disagree with the need for mass interrupts on this particular mission, but the jury is still out on this. Of the kuunavangs 5 skills, only 1 seems disruptable - dark chain lightning. Dark chain lightning is not a spell but an attack, so spell only interrupts are completely useless on this dragon. Neither of her spells, Corrupted spores nor Corrupted scales, was I able to disrupt using power drain, guilt, signet of disruption, savage shot, etc. It's as if the Kuunavang has mantra of resolve on for these or something.
Another issue for interrupts is the ledge obfuscation. If you try to fire disrupt shots to int the lightning attack, you have to be right up against the ledge to be able to hit the tail of the kuunavang or your shot will be obscured. I dont know why you can't just fire at her head instead :P. The lightning attack is a pretty fast skill so you are going to have to be pretty quick if you want to interrupt it. Don't fire any ints at anything else, it won't have any affect as far as I could tell. Seems to me that the best character, most suited for this mission anyway, is a degen ranger (poison, bleeding) with 1 interrupt, distracting shot, mainly because they have inate defenses against elemental damage. Second best might be a mesmer with mantra of lightning (provided this works, I am testing it now) and diversion, echo, arcane echo (testing this too) or just straight illusion for degen, persistance and clumsiness. Degen necros are also quite desirable as it seems necessary to hold the kuunavang at -15 degen (seems to have inate +5 regen so to get to max degen, you need the extra -5). Also VERY desirable on this one: Ritualist with ritual lord, shelter and/or Recuperation. I haven't had a lot of trouble with this mission unless the other team that I got was 1 assassin or 1 warrior + 7 henchies who all die at the beginning leaving the 1 team to attempt completion alone. :P This happens frequently as many assassins/warriors sit in town not being selected for this nonmelee mission. If you have had success with interrupts, what skill we're you able to interrupt and what skill was successful for you because I am not seeing this work .... maybe knockdowns can interrupt here... ? Also, anyone tried grenth's balance here yet? edit: after further testing, it seemed that diversion had no effect on DCL but did divert the scales. And mantra of lightning had no effect, I took -300 dmg whether I had it on or off and I saw no energy gain .... what gives ?!? as a side note, I mastered this mission with all hench on both teams while testing things out, not even trying to fight (lol, half the time I was alt-tabbing to write notes in this post, mid-mission). I recommend the illusion and spirit henchies here, they seem to do well. Make sure that if the other team is all hench you give them an opportunity to res their fallen before moving on to the next area. If you see spores/scales, best thing to do is move out of range since killing them could heal the dragon if it used renewing corruption on them. so far, things that seemed to work: degen, deep wound (accumulated pain was nice), fragility, conditions, soul barbs, echo'd diversion, skill-based interrupt on DCL, and I believe a henchie was able to do a knockdown int on the spores (earth guy maybe) but that's the only way I have seen that get int'd. At any rate, please post your observations, I'm interested in the details of this boss. Across The Battle
As a warrior, I spent days and days trying to get a group for that mission, almost nobody wants a tank in thier group, they are near useless in the mission except for taking out the little shit that everyone else could take out, luckily I got in a group and (If i remember correctly) we got it done on the first shot...The major problem with that mission is theres usually about 5 people in town, at least on the kurzick side, Im just starting Luxons
VorianVader
Well I got masters on it with my warrior. Used henchies. I went W/N with three key skills........life transfer, life siphon and well of blood (to counter the regen of the spores).
This was after wipes of 3-4 PUG groups. This is the first time I have used well of blood and I must say that I love it Dzan
A ritualist with Recouperation and Shelter shuts down the dragon. No Dark Chain Lightning, no spore degen.
A blood/curses degen necro who brings Well of Blood seals the deal. Granted, there are so few people in the district that finding a necro willing to leave his minions behind or a ritualist that understands the need for Shelter and Recouperation is rare. As in any difficult mission, guildmates for the win. frickaline
The spores/scales you can just run past ... well, until the very end part that is.
But shelter is great on this. MaglorD
Well I've done this mission for all my 5 characters, a few times with just me and the rest henchies.
I recently got my warrior though this with henchies alone and got masters as well. Needless to say, no recuperation or shelter was used, only the power of mesmer skills. |
