Propechies or Factions - which do you prefer?
Pompeyfan
I'd have to say my vote goes to Propehecies as there's just not enough content or variety in Factions.
With propehecies, the missions and quests seemed longer, more involved and challanging - so much so that it took me 2 month's of playing most days before I finished it and I enjoyed taking 3 other characters through the whole game too, but with Factions I've finished it in under 2 weeks and with all the endless backtracking involved just to pad it out and the fact most of it can be done very easily solo with henchies (bit stupid in a multi-player game - if I wanted to do quests solo with AI characters I might as well play an off-line game), I just don't feel like I can be arsed to take my other characters through it again. Granted I haven't tried the elite missions, but then the way the game is designed I'm hardly likely to get the chance.
I really hope their are plans for morte PvE content as PvP dosen't interest me whatsoever and it's a shame that some of the promised stuff never really materialised - like missions requiring two parties of 8 - I've only found one of them, and while I'm here, can som, eone explain the point of the PvP missions and border as it dosen't seem to make much difference what happens.

My vote goes to Prophecies, as well. I just enjoyed it a LOT more.

I'd say Prophecies for the amount of PvE content. I really liked the theme and art design in Factions, but it was too short and stricken with the terrible alliance idea.
If they could do one with the PvE content of Prophecies (or dare I hope for even more content? a more RPG-like experience, even?) and an interesting or unique theme, like they had in Factions, I would be all over that.

Factions is better because i like the new features..like the pets!!

PvP - Factions wins hands down, almost nil on the "GLFM R8+++++" and the Faction battles are excellent.
PvE - Factions. Yeah, not as much content, but items are easier to get. I don't come by money easily, so when I go out and open a chest and find a max gold, that's good. I'm sure the Elite missions are fun too.
Misc. crap - Prophecies. Yeah, for all you OCD's who go "OMFG I CANT EXPLORE THIS NONRELEVANT CANYON IN TH EMIDDLE OF NOWEHER!!! I HATE YOU ANET, FACTIONS SUX"

Prophecies, by far. Next question.

Prophesies ftw.

Factions. Level grinding in prophecies was just boring.
Xenrath
Not had much time to play Factions, but I'm leaning towards Prophecies having been the better experience. I think Presearing/Ascalon and the mission structure beyond that was much better in that too (from a PvE perspective)
Omni Spirit
Prophecies is much better

Prophecies.

Prophecies (though I prefer Factions' starter island to pre-searing Ascalon)

I'd say Prophecies. When I spent 50 dollars on Prophecies I got a sandwich.
When I spent 50 dollars on Factions I got a selection of condiments.
It honestly feels like an expansion to me. It adds flavor, but not nearly enough substance as the original.

I like factions, the locations are beautiful. I'm still in the starter area which I find helpful... if I didn't already know what I'm doing lol. Sure doesn't take long to lv up. I'm not even through that area as mentioned and I'm almost lv10 with my ritualist. I never made it to lv 10 in pre-searing.
However... I still like Prophecies a bit more. Kinda funny but I got all my prophecies characters over to factions but I can't wait to get my factions characters over to LA and explore prophecies with them.
Having only spent a few days with factions and have almost a year in prophecies... still hard to really give an honest answer.

Prophecies is like my own kitchen- I know where everything is, and all the quirks of the appliances. What works, what doesn't, so the stuff that doesn't has ceased to bother me anymore.
Factions is like my rich brother's kitchen when I visit. Lots of the stuff looks very nice, some doesn't make sense to me, and I can't find anything. But everything seems nicer and newer.
If I were coming fresh into both, I would probably say Prophecies, because I think you get more bang for your buck, and it goes a little slower. But I am looking forward to figuring out my brother's kitchen!

Factions because Propechies areas are empty and too easy. Graphics are a lot better too. The 12 vs 12 PvP just bugs me but I won't give up so soon. Factions is still a baby which has much to learn in the near future just like Propechies had.
pbspectre
i like the fact that Factions is something new, but i really don't fell like i'm getting the same immersive experience i got/get from Prophecies...the lack of explorability in Factions sucks...the armor/wepon skins in Factions are killer though...
overall: Prophecies > Factions
overall: Prophecies > Factions

But overall, I definitely like Prophecies more--a lot more content. I can only play at night for an hour or two most days, and I'm still almost done with the game for one character in Factions and finishing the starter island with another. Prophecies just had a lot more to do. If they start adding some stuff to Factions, like Sorrow's Furnace was added to the original, it might make it worthwhile.
One thing is how you level up so quick. I know some people like it, but I liked really having to work to get my char to 20 in Prophecies. It was exciting and people congratulated each other for leveling during missions. Each new level was a challenge. But in Factions, you level up by just walking across the room. Maybe they could add some more missions in the beginning? Give less exp for just talking to Master Togo?

Prophecies hands down
More polished and less buggy when it was released compared to Factions. Missions were more engaging and interesting. Stories were both kinda meh but I liked Prophecies more than Factions just because Shiro lacked any kind of depth and background other than the "corny" fortune teller scene. Prophecies also is my favorite because it allowed exploration, sorry not a fan of your locked gates Anet.
Only thing that Factions wins over Prophecies in my opinion is the beautiful environment they designed from shin jea isles, Petrified Forests of Kurz and the Jade Sea of the Luxons.

The truth itself
Factions by the faster leveling up and less grinding, i don't want to waste 50 hours just to get to the part where i have fun.
Prophecies for the quests with skills as a reward, damn i miss that, buying skills is simply too expensive.

For me Prophecies as well more to do like solo farming and it is more layed out.Factions seems like I am in down town traffic and can't go here or there not open enough.

I am enjoying Factions immensly at the moment, but there is no way to say that it is my favourite of the two. I mean, I have only been playing it for a few weeks now, but Prophecies I have been playing for over a year. It's a big ask for Factions to overtake Prophecies in that amount of time, no matter how good it is. I mean, Anet used that year to refine/tinker with/polish Prophecies, they probably will do the same with Factions. Time will tell tho, whether I change my opinion or if the next installment changes everything....

sinisters chaos
prophecies, ez levels and short game like factions... not too fun. Also i just HATE the look of cantha, it doesnt look as asian as i thought, more like a ghetto in post WW2 germany.
Sab
Prophecies, definitely.
I would say Factions, but it introduced some awful game mechanics which kills it for me (such as locked gates and access to elite missions).

They are both the same game. Why would I make such a false choice?
I played EQ for 4 years and they came out with 6-7 expansions during that time (I think they are up to - what - 11?). My favorite expansion was Ruins of Kunark, but it's still EQ. And in that game I had to buy the expansion AND pay a monthly fee.
So we have it pretty darn good in GW - an expansion, no monthly fee, and a great game.

Prophecies had more meaning to it IMO. Longer, ToA, etc. Factions has a disappointing 12v12 (which was pretty good in the FPE), but has beautiful maps. Still, I BELIVE content > eye candy, but who am I, lol?
Vel Satis
Prophecies by far for me. I don't PvP much so I can't really comment on that but the PvE in Factions seems rushed and poorly thought out. Prophecies PvE is in a different league.
Nibor
Prophecies, more game for the money.

prophecies easily, factions as an items addon pack is good (if not expensive) but as a game is terrible

I agree that it's more interesting to play Prophecies and that Factions may be a little... Bland on the content side.
However, what I mainly didn't like about Prophecies was the many difference stories. I mean, I loved the difference environments but I had to get into a story involving dwarves, one involving myself and another involving Mursaat, along understanding the story revolving around Ascalon.
I wish they'd have gone really in-depth with a few of the stories in Prophecies instead of bunching up all their good ideas in one installment. They went in-depth with Factions, sadly though, the story was just bad.
But on the other hand, I think Anet has to get an idea of what we want; Guildwars is an innovative game and the whole "no monthly fee, many expansion"-idea definately is.
Once Anet gets a hang of what we like (graphics, story and no grind), the chapters will be better and more... fuller.
Prophecies was the first; Worked out very well. We liked it. Factions was the first expansion; Had the graphics part down good, but failed on the story and content. By chapter 3 we'll see some new stuff, and hopefully Anet has learned from Factions and made a better expansion.
I say give them some time... Factions wasn't all it was blown up to be, but Anet listenes to us.

Imagine Prophecies without FoW, UW, New Tombs, or SF and then compare them. Factions has way more content post-lvl20, where Prophecies draws out the process of getting to level 20. The result, more areas to go back and play over again with acceptable rewards. In Prophecies 75% of the game was useless to play after lvl20 because you didn't get any xp and the drops pretty much sucked. In Factions most of the explorable areas are about the same dificulty and have relatively similar drops.
