You ever have to clean up after a Moa bird?

True Solunastra [SLA] Profession: Moa Wrangler

First of all, I love the phoenix, but then, I knew what a phoenix was supposed to be before this conversation.

My question is this: Where does everyone GET the idea that a phoenix is a big bird made of flames?

The only place I can think of that they're like that is in Warcraft. Does everyone get all of their education from Warcraft, these days?

Seriously, even if you did nothing more than watch a Harry Potter movie (no reading necessary!) you'd see a better representation of a classic phoenix.

Maybe I'm just as uneducated, in my own way, because I can tell you about Egyptian, Greek, Jewish, Hindu, Chinese, and Japanese types of Phoenix, but I have no idea where this flaming bird thing is coming from.

Enlighten me, please. ^-^

From DJ Josh

"the myth states that upon its death the phoenix bursts into flames and is reborn in its own ash"

Saying like that, people thought its a fire bird... which its not in reality. With the time, maybe people changed its red-oriented feathers to fire.

Off topic: Age of Mythology show a bad representation for the real Phoenix. Its totally a fire bird but at least you can reborn it if it dies

"Fire Bird" doesn't mean its ACTUALLY on fire so I don't know why people are fighting about that. It means it has Vibrant Red Plummage. Their on fire in Symbols and Such, because most of the lore about them are specifically and only about the END of their life - where they ARE on fire.

This is egyptian obviously. The one ingame is different.

Also - someone mentioned Oni's....Oni's aren't represented too bad in the game, besides what class best fits them. "Oni" is basically the Japanese version of the Ogre. So their large humanoid bodies aren't that bad representation. Only thing is Oni's in folklore mostly liked to weild Large Clubs and such for a weapon, so they'd be better represented as a hammer warrior ingame.

At a young age kids thought the phoenix was actually on fire and still do because when they played their pokemon they saw Moltres and they all said "omgz its a phoenix and its on fire!"

Damn you pokemon...DAMN YOU!

I actually think that even X-Men comics/Cartoons make people have the idea of the flames also.

i mean in X-Men its a entity that inhabits Jean Grey and she has a huge bird of fire around her. obviously in a comic or cartoon this is a easy way to reprisent something anyway.

But you know... kids are stupid. lol

... and i guess impressions like that one give alot of people the wrong idea of what a Phoenix is

You know Draxx, you pissed me off. I was gonna mention Jean Grey.

But yeah, you guys are all n00bs, this is the Phoenix.:

No chinese peahen (male version) lookalike and no flaming chicken, just Jean Grey when channeling the good ol' end of everything.
