Does anyone have a high resolution picture that I can compare to? I cant seem to find one except the one that TC Fish has but it is the regular map making it very hard to use. :-(

Then you're zooming too far. One or two clicks of the mousewheel should be all you need to do to your "U" window in order to get a workable comparison. Remember, locating fog comes not from staring at details but from quick ALT+TAB which makes your eye pick up the rapid alterations in otherwise identical images.
I'm guessing the reason some clarity is lost is because the image was saved as a .JPG. I've manually stitched together a map of Tyria before. An "in progress" version still on my hard drive clocks in at 115MB, while a fully done version with all images flattened into one object makes a 38MB .PNG file. By contrast, the .JPG version of the finished map takes up only 7.4MB, which makes it a lot more shareable.
Leighwyn's map is only a 3MB .JPG, but even that is too hefty for some old PCs or slow connections. Like he, I will pick distribution over resolution any day. What good is a perfect map if there's no way to get it out to the people who need to use it?

Well... I am still using the method so I really should not have said anything until I was absolutely certain that I could not find a difference. But thank you for your input Shyft...97.4% atm
29 Jun 2006 at 08:04 - 329
Yes, just think how much Georgia Tech is already wasting on bandwidth for these guild wars maps between TC Fish and myself
Maybe I'll get around to uploading a higher-quality jpeg for those adventurous souls with their fancy connections; it may take a while on my very unfancy one, however
29 Jun 2006 at 08:39 - 330
I figure that broadband should be used for Guild Wars anyway since 56k would probably disconnect and lag a lot. So I really did not know that so many people used 56k :\ By the way Leighwyn, thank you for this method that we are using

I added another .3% on to my total and have gotten 1.2% so far in 2 days using this method.

Used the information here, and did some running about and I now have my Cathan Grandmaster Cartographer title! With my Tyria Ranger mind you
Minus a few Cathan only areas.
So it is possible to get 100% with a Tryia Character.

Thank you Shyft, i found that missing harbour spot in Daijung. Now at 97.1%.
I will uncover those 2 missing spots Jade Quarry and Fort aspenwood.
So here are the 2 other stitched maps.

Well, for all you Tyrians who want to pick up a couple extra patches, the area behind the Shing Jae Monastery is now accessible, at least for the next few days during the Dragon Festival. Talk to the Monastery Keeper by Storage in Shing Jae Monastery and you will be placed in the previously off limits area. Run around and watch your exploration % increase. I was able to get another 0.6% from this area alone.

Alright, lets get this started. From the top file:
You can lose some more fog along the very north of Raisu Palace explorable (that you enter from the gate in Imperial Sanctum), west of the boats but east of the rhombus-shaped island. Squeeze in along the shoreline and look as far north as you can.
You need to uncover the very north part of the Imperial Sanctum mission, between the two towers, and you can get that area from the banishment path if you squeeze into every crevice you can before going up to the orb. You should also walk around the battle area with henchies as well, since you can uncover more of the Sanctum that way, especially the areas you can't get banished into.
You're missing part of Dragon's Throat outpost and NE/east part of Vizunah Square, inside the mission. You can't uncover Dragon's Throat from inside the town, so try walking out and getting as close to the portal back in as you can without zoning back into town. If that doesn't work, you need to hug the most extreme north part of Vizunah Square to uncover it, and continue hugging the east wall of Vizunah Square as the party moves from the second multispawn area to the third "bookstore" one. Please don't leave as soon as you get the map open - the mission is hard enough as it is, so try to catch a ride with a group and contribute all the way through.
You can lose a bit more fog in the very NW corner of Shenzun Tunnels. Head east out of Tahnnakai Temple hugging the north wall, and you should only have to fight through a single group of Am Fah to get there.
You're missing a spot in the SE corner of Shenzun Tunnels as well. My advice is to head into the explorable Nahpui Quarter out of Senji's Corner and zone into Shenzun Tunnels that way, so you only have to fight through small mobs of Am Fah and not the afflicted. Hug the south wall heading further east after zoning.
You need to uncover the eastern wall in the explorable Sunjiang District. Head out of Zin Ku Corridor hugging the east wall all the way down, but before you leave town, walk over to the weaponsmith located against the east wall. You can pick up another small spot there. When you reach the SE corner of Sunjiang District, fight your way west along the south wall if you also want to pick up the little "farmland" spot east of Maatu Keep.
You can open up more in the NW corner of Arborstone, but here you will need to do two runs: one west along the north wall from Tanglewood Copse for a tiny bit along the west wall of the top level (walk back and forth against it heading north), and one all the way from Altrumm Ruins since the other spot - the very NE corer of Arborstone - can only be uncovered from the lower level, in the river. While you're there, swing by the NE corner of the explorable Arborstone and see if you can uncover a tiny bit from the river in the east (going along the length of the east wall would help pick up any spots you've missed).
Hug the north and the east walls in Ferndale.
Pick up a bit in Saint Anjeka's Shrine by squeezing into the corner behind the henchies.
Enter the battle area of Fort Aspenwood from the Kurzick side and squeeze into the SE corner before battle begins.
Hug the west wall in Jade Quarry. Squeeze in between the outpost and the Kurzick base to uncover the area west of it, and walk into the western quarry (the niche in the wall behind the quarry NPCs) to get the norther part.
Hug the eastern wall of Melandru's Hope.
Hug the northern part of Morostav Trail, from the Kurzick Unwaking Waters to about the halfway point to the Vasburg Armory. Before starting out, pick up the northern part of the Kurzick Unwaking Waters from inside the town.
Check the east part of Drazach Thicket again, due NW of The Eternal Grove at the end of a stream.
Clear the eastern wall of Morostav Trail by heading south out of the Kurzick Unwaking Waters. Also pick up the SE part of the Kurzick Unwaking Waters outpost.
Squeeze into the NW corner of Mourning Veil Falls.
From the bottom file:
Hug the north wall of Maishang Hills between Bai Paasu Reach and Eredon Terrace.
Walk the SW corner of the same zone (most easily reached from Cavalon) by hugging the east wall immediately starting at the portal from Archipelagos to Maishang Hills and continuing east along the frozen wave. If that doesn't get rid of the foggy spot about midway between Cavalon and Gyala Hatchery, try heading out west of Gyala Hatchery and hugging the beach shore as closely as you can.
That should keep you busy for a while
Please remember next time that instead of zoning all over (and leaving the green marker on your "U" map) you can actually move the map in your "U" window around by dragging, so you can take all necessary screenshots from any single place (like the Shing Jea Arena, for example) and line them up as you wish instead of zoning all over and being at the mercy of auto-lineup that centers the minimap on your character whenever you move.

Cheated a bit with mine but meh, only had .3% to go. The new Festival games give Tyrians access to Monastary Overlook which i think is about .4-5, so for the next few days you can pick up a bit there if your in need of it
Anyway, thanks to all here who helped me find a precious few %.
GG!
30 Jun 2006 at 09:16 - 337
Sweet the Monastary Overlook is now open during the event? Great news! I've already got Cathan 100% but now I can have a truely complete map
01 Jul 2006 at 00:57 - 338
only .7% more to go! w00tw00t!

i still know a few spots to visit, gonna post my map soon

hope u see more on it than me

hHaha...that's what you think until you have to search for every nook and cranny and have to be almost perfect....99.5% right now and I am starting to notice no difference in both my map and Leighwyn's except that some spots on my map look even less cloudy. :-\ I am not sure what to do ATM but know that I am missing some jade quarry for another .1%

My advice to you is to take screenshots of your "U" window, and either stitch them into a single image or line them up side by side as previous posters have done. If you share them, someone might be able to take a look at them. If you don't, it's still easier to line up the images for yourself when you don't have to ALT+TAB into Guild Wars.
Still, as of right now you should probably be paying more attention to the dragon festival, especially since it can let your Tyrian character uncover the Monastery Overlook area (though it won't show up on the map as "Monastery Overlook" since you're entering an extension of the district and not an explorable area).

So use Leighwyn's map on page 2 of this thread. It has enabled several people to reach 100% already.

So...it's times like these that make me wonder if perhaps I was blessed with some bionic eyeball. Or maybe it's just that I follow directions. Or perhaps still it's that I have more patience and attention than a lot of other people.
At any rate, tortugan, I looked at your maps and found, oh, about 30 spots you're missing. Many such spots are COMPLETELY obvious which makes it seem like your own comparisons were taking too much of your own time, and you gave up and dumped the workload on someone else

Reached 100% earlier today

. Thanks to all who posted maps and helped with suggestions of where to go.
As with Tyria I found a lot of edge walking essential, even in places I thought I had done earlier. I got to 100% while going back over Naphui Quater explorable - the SW section where it is very dark, just walked the edge again.
Again thanks.

02 Jul 2006 at 05:49 - 354
99.4% now. Is there a way to get to the lower level of tanglewood copse? Theres a huge section of river I'm missing and No matter what I do, I can't uncover it. Ive even tried it from the Arborstone side. Thanks
02 Jul 2006 at 06:34 - 355

is it just me or does this link: http://www.directupload.net/images/060509/2m92txGZ.jpg not work? If anyone could host it elsewhere that would be awesome
I'm at 99.7% and have no idea where the last 0.3% is. Unfortunately I missed the Shing Jea arena, so is it even possible to get still?
edit: nvm I found leighwyns map, big help. Found a few spots but they still only put me up another 0.1% ><
