Does anyone have a high resolution picture that I can compare to? I cant seem to find one except the one that TC Fish has but it is the regular map making it very hard to use. :-(

This is Leighwyn's cloudless and markerless map, stitched together from multiple "U" window screenshots, which has already made it possible for multiple people to reach Canthan Grandmaster Cartographer.

One or two clicks of the mousewheel should be all you need to do to your "U" window in order to get a workable comparison. Remember, locating fog comes not from staring at details but from quick ALT+TAB which makes your eye pick up the rapid alterations in otherwise identical images.

I'm guessing the reason some clarity is lost is because the image was saved as a .JPG. I've manually stitched together a map of Tyria before. An "in progress" version still on my hard drive clocks in at 115MB, while a fully done version with all images flattened into one object makes a 38MB .PNG file. By contrast, the .JPG version of the finished map takes up only 7.4MB, which makes it a lot more shareable.

Leighwyn's map is only a 3MB .JPG, but even that is too hefty for some old PCs or slow connections. Like he, I will pick distribution over resolution any day. What good is a perfect map if there's no way to get it out to the people who need to use it?

Well... I am still using the method so I really should not have said anything until I was absolutely certain that I could not find a difference. But thank you for your input Shyft...97.4% atm

Yes, just think how much Georgia Tech is already wasting on bandwidth for these guild wars maps between TC Fish and myself

Maybe I'll get around to uploading a higher-quality jpeg for those adventurous souls with their fancy connections; it may take a while on my very unfancy one, however

I figure that broadband should be used for Guild Wars anyway since 56k would probably disconnect and lag a lot. So I really did not know that so many people used 56k :\ By the way Leighwyn, thank you for this method that we are using I added another .3% on to my total and have gotten 1.2% so far in 2 days using this method.

Used the information here, and did some running about and I now have my Cathan Grandmaster Cartographer title! With my Tyria Ranger mind you

Minus a few Cathan only areas.

So it is possible to get 100% with a Tryia Character.

Well, for all you Tyrians who want to pick up a couple extra patches, the area behind the Shing Jae Monastery is now accessible, at least for the next few days during the Dragon Festival. Talk to the Monastery Keeper by Storage in Shing Jae Monastery and you will be placed in the previously off limits area. Run around and watch your exploration % increase. I was able to get another 0.6% from this area alone.
Alright, lets get this started. From the top file:

You can lose some more fog along the very north of Raisu Palace explorable (that you enter from the gate in Imperial Sanctum), west of the boats but east of the rhombus-shaped island. Squeeze in along the shoreline and look as far north as you can.

You need to uncover the very north part of the Imperial Sanctum mission, between the two towers, and you can get that area from the banishment path if you squeeze into every crevice you can before going up to the orb. You should also walk around the battle area with henchies as well, since you can uncover more of the Sanctum that way, especially the areas you can't get banished into.

You're missing part of Dragon's Throat outpost and NE/east part of Vizunah Square, inside the mission. You can't uncover Dragon's Throat from inside the town, so try walking out and getting as close to the portal back in as you can without zoning back into town. If that doesn't work, you need to hug the most extreme north part of Vizunah Square to uncover it, and continue hugging the east wall of Vizunah Square as the party moves from the second multispawn area to the third "bookstore" one. Please don't leave as soon as you get the map open - the mission is hard enough as it is, so try to catch a ride with a group and contribute all the way through.

You can lose a bit more fog in the very NW corner of Shenzun Tunnels. Head east out of Tahnnakai Temple hugging the north wall, and you should only have to fight through a single group of Am Fah to get there.

You're missing a spot in the SE corner of Shenzun Tunnels as well. My advice is to head into the explorable Nahpui Quarter out of Senji's Corner and zone into Shenzun Tunnels that way, so you only have to fight through small mobs of Am Fah and not the afflicted. Hug the south wall heading further east after zoning.

You need to uncover the eastern wall in the explorable Sunjiang District. Head out of Zin Ku Corridor hugging the east wall all the way down, but before you leave town, walk over to the weaponsmith located against the east wall. You can pick up another small spot there. When you reach the SE corner of Sunjiang District, fight your way west along the south wall if you also want to pick up the little "farmland" spot east of Maatu Keep.

You can open up more in the NW corner of Arborstone, but here you will need to do two runs: one west along the north wall from Tanglewood Copse for a tiny bit along the west wall of the top level (walk back and forth against it heading north), and one all the way from Altrumm Ruins since the other spot - the very NE corer of Arborstone - can only be uncovered from the lower level, in the river. While you're there, swing by the NE corner of the explorable Arborstone and see if you can uncover a tiny bit from the river in the east (going along the length of the east wall would help pick up any spots you've missed).

Hug the north and the east walls in Ferndale.

Pick up a bit in Saint Anjeka's Shrine by squeezing into the corner behind the henchies.

Enter the battle area of Fort Aspenwood from the Kurzick side and squeeze into the SE corner before battle begins.

Hug the west wall in Jade Quarry. Squeeze in between the outpost and the Kurzick base to uncover the area west of it, and walk into the western quarry (the niche in the wall behind the quarry NPCs) to get the norther part.

Hug the eastern wall of Melandru's Hope.

Hug the northern part of Morostav Trail, from the Kurzick Unwaking Waters to about the halfway point to the Vasburg Armory. Before starting out, pick up the northern part of the Kurzick Unwaking Waters from inside the town.

Check the east part of Drazach Thicket again, due NW of The Eternal Grove at the end of a stream.

Clear the eastern wall of Morostav Trail by heading south out of the Kurzick Unwaking Waters. Also pick up the SE part of the Kurzick Unwaking Waters outpost.

Squeeze into the NW corner of Mourning Veil Falls.

From the bottom file:

Hug the north wall of Maishang Hills between Bai Paasu Reach and Eredon Terrace.

Walk the SW corner of the same zone (most easily reached from Cavalon) by hugging the east wall immediately starting at the portal from Archipelagos to Maishang Hills and continuing east along the frozen wave. If that doesn't get rid of the foggy spot about midway between Cavalon and Gyala Hatchery, try heading out west of Gyala Hatchery and hugging the beach shore as closely as you can.

That should keep you busy for a while

Please remember next time that instead of zoning all over (and leaving the green marker on your "U" map) you can actually move the map in your "U" window around by dragging, so you can take all necessary screenshots from any single place (like the Shing Jea Arena, for example) and line them up as you wish instead of zoning all over and being at the mercy of auto-lineup that centers the minimap on your character whenever you move.

Cheated a bit with mine but meh, only had .3% to go. The new Festival games give Tyrians access to Monastary Overlook which i think is about .4-5, so for the next few days you can pick up a bit there if your in need of it

Anyway, thanks to all here who helped me find a precious few %.

hHaha...that's what you think until you have to search for every nook and cranny and have to be almost perfect....99.5% right now and I am starting to notice no difference in both my map and Leighwyn's except that some spots on my map look even less cloudy. :-\ I am not sure what to do ATM but know that I am missing some jade quarry for another .1%

If you share them, someone might be able to take a look at them. If you don't, it's still easier to line up the images for yourself when you don't have to ALT+TAB into Guild Wars.

Still, as of right now you should probably be paying more attention to the dragon festival, especially since it can let your Tyrian character uncover the Monastery Overlook area (though it won't show up on the map as "Monastery Overlook" since you're entering an extension of the district and not an explorable area).

Well, eyeball comparisons with Leighwyn's map got me to 99.1%. Seems his/her map is in a different resolution and won't align with my map, and my monitor freaks out when I try to alter the resolution within GW so...

So...it's times like these that make me wonder if perhaps I was blessed with some bionic eyeball. Or maybe it's just that I follow directions. Or perhaps still it's that I have more patience and attention than a lot of other people.

At any rate, tortugan, I looked at your maps and found, oh, about 30 spots you're missing. Many such spots are COMPLETELY obvious which makes it seem like your own comparisons were taking too much of your own time, and you gave up and dumped the workload on someone else

Going from top to bottom (numbers indicate which image I am referring to):

1) NE corner of Fort Aspenwood, which is basically the eastern wall accessible from the Luxon side.

West and north parts of Jade Quarry, most easily accessible from the Kurzick side. Hug the west wall between base and quarry, enter the quarry behind the NPCs, and enter the quarry on the east side in the same manner if you want to pick up a little spot not displayed on Leighwyn's map.

2) You can pick up a spot along the north wall in Rhea's Crater by starting off from Leviathan Pits. Make sure to squeeze against a block of jade in the passage heading east from the boss spawn area - that's where it popped up for me.

3) Pick up a bit just east of Cavalon by hugging the west wall in Maishang Hills after zoning there from Archipelagos.

4) Make sure to hug the east wall of Haiju Lagoon and go to the very end of Hanzing Pier (the place you find Jatoro Musagi at the end of the Captured Son quest). When starting from Zen Daijun, hug the east wall right away and uncover a bit behind the shrine along the east wall right outside the gate.

6) Open up more of Dragon's Throat outpost by walking out of the gate and getting as close to going back in as possible without actually going back in.

Clear the rest of Imperial Sanctum: hug the walls of the "battle" area with henchies, and get yourself a "banishment buddy" to uncover the banishment area and the very top (between the two towers).

Hug the north and east walls inside the Vizunah Square mission.

7) Clear up the NW corner of the explorable Minister Cho's Estate. You've missed two other spots in the same zone: one near the entry along the south wall, and another at the very bottom of the eastern wall against the mountain.

Hug the west wall of Kinya Province. You've failed to completely unfog some islands, and the one at the mouth of the waterfall is missing from your map completely.

8) Hug the east wall inside the Kurzick Aspenwood Gate, then head west out of there and hug the north wall of Ferndale.

9) Pick up a spot from inside the town of Boreas Seabed by traversing the bridges and going as far north as you can.

In Pongmei Valley, head to the Yeti cave near the horseshoe-shaped waterfall. You should be able to pick up a bit there.

11) Unfog the NW corner of the Kurzick Unwaking Waters from inside the town, then head west along the north wall of Morostav Trail to pick up more.

12) Hug the south wall of Mourning Veil Falls. The spot you're missing forms an equilateral triangle with the exits to Amatz Basin and the explorable Eternal Grove.

You can pick up another bit along the east wall in Morostav Trail by heading south out of the Kurzick Unwaking Waters.

13) Pick up the very bottom of the SE island inside the Unwaking Waters by heading south out of the gate after entering the mission. Please either go in at off-peak hours and hope for a team of henchies to join you on the other side, or gear up to help people complete the mission after you get the spot you're missing.

14) You're missing several spots in Shenzun Tunnels. Walk the north wall of the zone by heading out of Tahnnakai Temple so you only have to fight one mob of Am Fah, and then head to the center of the zone to pick up a bit of fog you've left there.

Make sure to hug the edges of the burned-out area inside the explorable Nahpui Quarter where the Am Fah live as closely as you can.

15) Hug the east wall in Panjiang Peninsula.

16) Squeeze into a tiny spot along the west wall in the explorable Eternal Grove - it's on about the same level horizontally as the zone point into the mission.

19) You can pick up a tiny bit more above Arborstone by hugging the west wall of the "top" level and heading north.

20) You seem to be missing some spots at the very top of Sunjiang District, but I can't be sure because you didn't include a map of that area despite all the duplicate shots

Next time, please avoid posting duplicate maps of the same area. I may have missed some spots because I couldn't stand looking at nearly the same screenshot for the second time. Also, try using ALT+TAB to compare on your own against Leighwyn's map - it should be easier now that you don't have to get into GW, and it is just what I used to locate the areas you're missing.

Quote: Originally Posted by TheSonofDarwin

Instead, use your mousewheel to zoom in and out of the "U" minimap, and zoom into Leighwyn's map to bring the image to a similar size.

You're missing:

-The eastern wall of the Vizunah Square mission;
-A spot in the NW corner of Shenzun Tunnels, along the north wall;
-Several spots inside Sunjiang District, heading west along the north wall from Zin Ku Corridor;
-the SE corner inside the Zin Ku Corridor outpost;
-the north wall inside the Boreas Seabed outpost;
-a tiny bit along the north wall of Maishang Hills, east of Bai Paasu Reach;
-a spot between Cavalon and Gyala Hatchery, reachable by hugging the east wall after entering Maishang Hills from Archipelagos;
-a spot between Breaker Hollow and Luxon Jade Flats;
-the west wall of Jade Quarry;
-a spot along the north wall in Rhea's Crater (see above for directions);
-the south corner of Rhea's Crater, heading east from Seafarer's Rest;
-the SE corner of Unwaking Waters, reachable from within the mission (see above for directions);
-the SE corner of Fort Aspenwood;
-a spot in Ferndale just east of House Zu Heltzer;
-the NW corner of Mourning Veil Falls;
-the NE corner of Mourning Veil Falls;
-the eastern wall of Morostav Trail heading south from Kurzick Unwaking Waters.

And I don't understand your comment about 'eyeball comparisons.' I do all my comparisons with my eyeballs, so I guess I just have better ones

I feel your pain

Please, people, if you go as far as to take screenshots of your own map for others to compare Leighwyn's map to, at least take the time to compare them yourself. It's really much easier to line up your screenshots with his map when you don't have to ALT+TAB into GW, especially considering that GW takes a lot of processor space and that you can zoom equally into both screenshots since you're likely to use the same program to open both.

I don't mind helping out people with their cartography titles, but one of these days my summer vacation is going to end and I won't be able to. I'll give you a fish if you can't learn to fish yourself, but that doesn't mean you don't have to try.

Reached 100% earlier today . Thanks to all who posted maps and helped with suggestions of where to go.
As with Tyria I found a lot of edge walking essential, even in places I thought I had done earlier. I got to 100% while going back over Naphui Quater explorable - the SW section where it is very dark, just walked the edge again.
Again thanks.

Less Crying is Key [kThx]

I've managed to get myself up to 99.3% using the compare methods to the map posted in the second page.

I've been looking endlessly for the past 2 days and I just can't seem to find that last .7%. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Here are my maps:

If I am missing something (didn't SS all areas) let me know. Thanks!!

PS: I have the area south of Shing Jae and the noobie pvp arena already explored, so I'm guessing that there is still a pretty significant amount that I am missing.

EDIT: I found that I missed the lake on the west side of Sing Jae Island, also the river mouth north of amatz (greenish color) - filled that in and I'm at 99.3% now.

I'm at 99.7% and have no idea where the last 0.3% is. Unfortunately I missed the Shing Jea arena, so is it even possible to get still?

edit: nvm I found leighwyns map, big help. Found a few spots but they still only put me up another 0.1% ><
