Suggestion for GW: Create way for small guilds to unite under an umbrella guild
balinor limad
i definitly say there should be some alliances and the like but the idea of sharing leadership im definitly against i like to have my total power, i lead a guild of about 55 and am increadably proudof it but it takes a wile to for me to trust some one enough to make them an officer but once promoted they usually stay that way because they have proven their loyalty both to me and Onyx Guild the idea of just dding guild officers is compleatly abserd to me but who knows mybe im just a power hungry tyrant, the guildies like me though

Hell yes. I want to stay in my own guild, small as it is, and I have two friends that have their own guild and want to stay in that, small as it is. It's perfectly reasonable to expect both of us to want to stay where we are but also be together in some way. An alliance or something similar (coalition, as Snowman said, would work, though I'd prefer alliance) would be a perfect way to do that. Frankly I can't see any reason why they would not want to do this.
Here's what I'll say for alliances:
--4 or 5 guild max (we'll say 4)
--Alliance Hall for all members (perhaps each guild has to donate a Sigil, or it just costs one), but Guild Hall is kept for each guild
--Toggleable capes for alliance, but guild capes can be toggled on instead
--All alliance members can fight together in the Alliance Hall; battles initiated from the Alliance Hall always use the Alliance name; in Tombs or Team Arenas, if 3/4 or more members in a fight are from one guild, that guild's name is used instead of the alliance, otherwise the alliance name is used
--New alliance chat channel (if possible)
--Guild leaders are designated as Officers automatically; one may be chosen (or must be chosen) as Alliance leader
--GvG battles between guilds in the same alliance cannot be rated (this is debatable) OR alliance and guild ratings are linked OR alliance and guild ratings are always displayed at the same time
Sounds good to me.

That would ROCK!
We are a MultiGame Clan, with so many members that we have 2 guilds (once as many as 3).
If we could have them under a single tag, but still the 2 seperate guilds, it would be great.
Will link this to the leaders

Sheer brilliance.
This one time, I met up with a guy, and after spending quite some time with him, the issue of guild membership came up. It would have been really cool to join up, but we both worked quite hard for our respective halls/capes, and really were reluctant to part with them... Some sort of alliance system would allow the best of both worlds.

I've had two successfull mergers.. if a smaller guild wants to join a larger guild because they are struggling, then they have to accept that their guild has failed.. if you dont merge.. because you want to keep your cape or whatever.. then the chances are your members will leave for another guild anyway, and your guild will soon be dead and long forgotton. However when I have merged with other guilds their leader becomes my officer, and then we try agree a new cape design which merges the two... this is very succesfull.. new members feel they have a say in the guild because their old leader still has authority.. the cape has changed to reflect the merger.. more members, more battles.. more people online.. MORE FUN.. ok, so what if two equally sized guilds want to merge?.. well then a merger isnt what they need.. a coalition is what they need!.. an alliance!.. so that you are two seperate guilds.. but you can monitor the activity of the other guild.. like see which of their members are on etc. I maybe wrong, but I think 'coalition' is something that Arenanet are going to introduce. |
up and down and we have a dozen experiance officers already in place.
We have taken 3 small guilds into ours in the past. (guilds of 3 to 5 members).
Now its easy to invite the leader and his members. So heres the thing, Me and
my officers are experiance in leading a large guild for over 4.5 months.
why in the world would i make a none experiance leader of a tiny blip of a
guild become an officer equal to people that have work their way up and
proved themselves for months. that would just be unfair to the existing
officers. Also yeah we do have a rank ladder within our guild posted on our
site. which the members have to actualy work their way up.
Now i do agree with alliance with other large guilds, since the guild cap is 100
and our guild is growing to fast, i am now working on a sub guild. it would be
much easier for me and many others to be able to have allied guilds with a
seperate allied chat channel.

Master Oria:
This proposal is for the merging of 2 or more small guilds to solve the problem of being unable to field a full pvp/gvg team on their own. In fact, my proposal that any guild rating should be lost when forming an umbrella guild is meant to prevent established large guilds from using this feature. They don't need it. Small guilds don't have any rating anyway.
While I don't have anything but anecdotal evidence, I believe that the number of guilds who give up their identity to merge into another guild is hideously small compared to the number of guilds who would jump at the chance to join an umbrella guild. Joining an umbrella guild would preserve their guild name, tag, cape and hall.

I agree with most of what Master Oria says, but at the same time I can see the many advantages of the umbrella idea. Has my vote.

As a Alliance feature this idea would rock!
As a Merge would complicate things in a unnessecary way. :/
I mean when I intend to merge with someone is obvious that out of two guilds a new one will arise. Totally different with a alliance of course.
Anyway, good luck with the idea and I hope anet will implement something similar.
There is a coalition option in CoH and CoV that works well too after all.

Cool idea, it might mean the creation of larger and better guilds because small rubbish guilds would be able to unite.

Sounds interesting, but maybe setting up alliances between Guilds maybe a way to start the ball rolling.
If anyone is interested in forming up a Guild Allaince between Guilds, The Malkavian Lords of Midnight would love to be apart of it.
Send me a PM if interested or find me at our website www.lordsofmidnight.net or even in game as Immortal Midnight

Anyone desiring to form an alliance may PM me. If I get enough guild leaders in my inbox, I'll set up some forums from which we can organize alliance-wide events.
Then, if (rather, when (I hope)) this is implemented, we can make the alliance in-game.

I have one concern regarding the "Council" aspect of this idea.
How would a situation regarding other Umbrella Guild Leaders (Umbrella Council Members) not logging be dealt with? You can't boot them because you don't have their vote, but you can't add anyone else because you don't have their vote. Perhaps an "inactivity" auto-boot after a certain amount of time? Or perhaps, any "vote" once instigated by Council Members not voted on in ..7 Days is void and forfit by said Council/Guild and thus, not affecting the vote at hand.
Thoughts.

Or, you could just be like my guild and just absorb them all, no questions asked. =D

This thread was created last year, the idea is the same as alliances. Was that bump a joke?

Well, a suggestion was made. Note the underlined bold text.
Personally, I like the current system, "Monarchy / Dictatorship (1 leader only).
It costs 1,000 gold to send an alliance invite to other guilds and if I spent that much gold inviting other guilds into our alliance, I would pretty much like to hold the title of "Alliance Leader".

I'm not sure exactly what the council would vote on.
I think this thread is moot, so can we just let it die?
