Delano Na Manach
------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------His story starts in Ascalon. Around 20 years before the Charr’s fires seared the land, on a fresh summer night, a tan, Canthan-looking woman carefully placed a small bundle of linen in the weeds just outside Ashford Abbey. A small, dark face poked out of a small hole at one end, and smiled in its sleep. The woman smiled down at her sleeping baby son. She knew great things were in store for him. She heard the creak of the gates opening, and rushed away before the guards took up their daily posts, leaving her baby behind. As the sun began to rise, the baby awoke, and began to cry. One of the guards found the child, and brought him in to the Abbey.

The baby was christened Delano Na Manach, which means ‘healthy black-man of the monks’. The resident monks looked over the child, teaching him to follow the path of Dwayna. To the monk’s surprise, Delano grew to be a rather hearty man. His strength was incredible for such a young man. Tales of Prince Rurik’s mighty deeds made their way into the abbey, and he became Delano’s role model.

Over the years, the war with the Charr became more and more brutal. Signs were posted throughout Ascalon, calling for the best warriors of the land to join the nation’s ranks in their struggle. Delano had grown into a strong-willed young man. He had become bored with life in the abbey, and was tired of doing simple daily chores, and healing the wounds of soldiers that came in from the Northern wall. One day, he expressed his feelings to his mentor and close friend, Mhenlo.

Mhenlo knew all along that Delano had the heart of a warrior. His courage and confidence would shine through, even when healing the fallen. He knew that Delano left the abbey to train with Haversdan during his free time. He told Delano that his time had come, and sent him into Ascalon City to join the fight against the charr. That is where Delano Na Manach’s story truly begins…

A small cry broke the Krytan pre-dawn skies, followed by a shushing, and a scared woman’s whisper: “Please, please go back to sleep!”

The tale of Alicia goes on long before this, and long after, but for now, this is all the tale I’ve to tell…

After her request for slumber to the crying bundle in her arms was denied, she diverted from her path and into the forest, finding seat upon a log within its confines. She rocked the bundle, and sung a poem to an old melody she’d heard once, long before:

“My beloved and my only son,
My light when there is rain,
How I can now all but wish,
To see your smile once again,

“To hear your cheery, baby laugh,
And watch you as you sleep,
And I shall tell you, once again,
My heart is yours to keep,

“And though I’ve told you times before,
I fear you will forget,
And all I wish for you, my son,
A life with no regret,

“A life that’s lived, with heart and soul,
A heart as pure as light,
And a soul that’s happy, and carefree,
That shall not coat with ice,

“I leave you with what’s said, my dear,
I pray you understand,
And when I find the strength to speak come, and hold my hand...”

The bundle was slowly accepting her plea of silence, and she continued on, leaving the rest of her song unsung.

She neared the great Temple of the Ages, and sighed in relief, for she had made it at last. Upon entering the Temple, she made straight for the statue of Dwayna, her stone magnificence shining through a pale blue aura. Here, she laid her son, her life and her soul, beneath the watchful eyes of the pure Goddess. “Dwayna, protect him.” A stream of tears made down her cheek as she put another bundle, comprised of a few records and a handwritten letter to her son, addressed clearly Malikai Whyitt, next to the first.

Alicia was headed for Cantha, and had heard news of the Plague running all amok on the southern continent. She knew she could not put her son in such a situation, even under the gaze of both Mhenlo and Master Togo. She feared that she would not see her son again, but this would soon be the least of her fears.

EDIT: Attached Screenshot of characer, as I finally found one...

Character: Makkert Ii

GWG Forumnick: Makkert

e-mail address:(included in entrysending to [email protected])

Background information:
This monk was the second character I created in Guild Wars. As such, the naming was supposed to be named 'Makkert II', but the roman numbering went bad on me because of way names are created in GuildWars. Also this monk has a hairtail, something I didn't see at the creationscreen. For a long time, I wasn't too fond of my monk for these 2 reasons.

After I dyed the tattoo-scalp black, it's look really improved. Suddenly the 'wrong' name and the hairtail gave it a nice Asian kind of look/ sound, I still have people occasionly ask me if I'm Korean when I play on my monk.

I grew ever more fond of my monk in time. It brought me wealth from 55 hp farming in the Underworld and bonding in Sorrow's Furnace. It also gave me a reason to spend this wealth again. The options my PvE monk provided for PvP were appealing, so most of the money earned went too equipping him in a way that he was ready for PvP play. My monk became a never-ending project that still continues to this day to have him look great, and be prepared for anything. Be it PvE, PvP or to seek answers for questions I have on the workings of gamemechanics by research. The challenge to play a good monk never gets boring. Even after a year of avidly playing GuildWars with my monk, I still learn small things on monking to improve my play. Nothing more satisfying then seeing those red bars go up and know you saved a life….

Story / Biography:
Altough born in Tyria, his ancestorhood came from Cantha. Son of a simple Xunlai agent that travelled to Tyria in search for a better living, he learned from his father the story of the rivalling Luxons and Kurzicks that raged war on the homeland of his father. Intrigued by the reason why they were in war, his father explained him that he didn't know the origin of this vete either. Because the past had been forgotten, solutions for peace in the future were slim. Being the tradesman that he was, he taught his son the trick to run a succesfull business is to understand both parties of a trade. The teachings of his father inspired Makkert to study a lot, to understand why things were as they were. The studies brought him to Ashford Abbey, a central point of knowledge. There, under the wings of his tutors, his mind was fed with information. The information of the Abbey and the teachings of his father made him able to solve many local conflicts by finding the middle road, which earned him great respect.

In the time before the Great Searing, the Charr wrecked havoc in the area, and Makkert set out with his teachings to understand both sides of Charr and Ascalon. He accomplished little, but was still hopefull, being optimistic of nature. But when the Searing struck, and Ashford Abbey become more Ash then Ford or Abbey, he understood that sometimes the teachings of his father didn't work. Not always will it be possible to reason between two opposing sides. Seeing the destruction, he sought counsel with one of his teachers of former Ashford Abbey, a monk named Mhenlo. Of Mhenlo he learned then when reason fails, giving hope to people is all that is left. Influenced by Mhenlo, Makkert became a follower of Dwayna. Hope was to be found in Kryta, away from the Charr, and thus he set out to help the people of Ascalon in their journey. A journey that would probably be a long one, he thought.. And while setting out, he pondered if he if he ever would return to the lands of his father and be faced with two sides that he could reason with, or would find them like Charr and Ascalon unable to unite. But whatever he would find then, he would be prepared. There is no fear within him, only hope. Little did he know at that time that he would indeed one day return…
