Creatures no longer gain XP from killing you
So it is back to the long way of lvling your pet. Kinda nasty since my tiger was almost lvl 15. Guess I will have to find a good place to go and clear out to get my lvl 3 pet back up to a decent level.

Yeah, they got it pretty fast it seems.
If I might offer a nice build for raising a dire pet though:
R/Mo
10 Smiting
12 BM
the rest in Expertise
Retribution
Judges insight (put it on the pet)
Strength of honor
Charm/Comfort
Ferocious Strike
Poisonous Bite
Brutal Strike
+energy staff ( I use my +15 trapper staff)
Go to the area east of Beetleton and fight the mergoyles and Mergoyle Wavebreakers. Cast SoH, and Retribution on the pet. As you attack put JI on the pet. Let it do all the attacking. You don't want to outdamage your pet. If you are level 20, with max armor you shouldn't need any self healing, the mergoyles don't do much damage. Just heal the pet as needed. Use a scroll if you are so inclined. By the time you get to 11 with the pet it should evolve into agressive (only Eldar and dire follow an aggressive evolution). Avoid the monk mergoyle boss and the tecus and ettins until you get to around 15.

Nope, but it's fairly easy to cap a level 5 tiger and make it level 15 and dire in a single night. Cap one of the level 5's and take it to tyria. You can level it to around 12 or 13 on the mergoyles outside Gates of Kryta, and then you can take it to Beetletun and level it to 15 on the mergoyles outside there in Nebo Terrace. Beastmastery at 12 or more + call of protection means most of those mobs won't put a dent in it. The only problem mobs are the Level 14 mergoyles with their Binding Chains combo, that one can do a bit of damage, with or without CoP.

If leveling a pet this way doesn't work any more, how come the warthog killing my ranger as I type is getting xp for killing me? It's already level 17 and it hasn't even been that long. fyi - I'm on the noobie isle in nightfall. I know, I know this thread is about the white tiger, but it seems to still work for me. Maybe they just nerfed that one tiger? Ooops, gotta go I think my hog just leveled up again.
Cathode_Reborn
Can anyone confirm or mention where they got this nerf info from? I just raised a dire Croc only a few days ago by letting it kill me. The crocs weren't really spawning by the Res shrine, so I equipped all 3 heroes with Death pact sig. I sac'd with BiP and let the croc kill me, and the heroes rezed me seconds later....repeat. I'm still wondering if the Hero deaths from Death pact signet gives a hostile animal XP or not.
Enko
they removed the nerf. they brought back the creature xp so people can still get legendary defender of ascalon in presearing.

Dousnt GW give an error when you dont do anything for a certain amount of time? I could swear i read that somewhere....
Asuka Raimei
yes err65 (I think) if you stay in the same area for 10hours
But to raise your pet from lvl5 to lvl15 or 20, you need less than 2 hours so it's ok, and now it works (again) perfectly

RotteN
i needed 352 deaths to get a pet from lvl3 to lvl20, took around 1,5 hours, so not anywhere near the 10h-time
miprat
I thought the number of deaths you had affected your drops? So its more beneficial to not die so many times. Is that not correct?

get out of a town, find a resurection shrine whith a pet camping on it. make sure the pet is ON the shrine, and not walking in circles around it.
make sure that there is no other mobs colse by
step 1: take off your armor, equip the vampiric weapon
step 2: attak the pet, but dont kill it!!!
step 3: let it kill you ALOT of times. the vampiric weapon will speed up the process.
step 4: go to sleep, leave the game runing, you will be resurected on shrine all the time with a pissed off pet
step 5: wake up, take a cofee, and look at the screen. at this point you will be getting attaked by a lvl 20 dire pet.
step 6: Equip the +15 energy stuff, put back your armor
step 7: use whirling defence and charm animal
result: you have a lvl 20 Dire pet of your choise with no work
this is how i got my Dire white tiger. i didnt actually go to sleep, i just went to cook. so when i came back it was lvl 17, but still good, cuz they dont change after lvl 15.. so i just toke it to tombs to mae it lvl 20 Does this trick still work? If so, you are a genius.

Used Runes and stuff, but didn't have to bother with defense, just got the pet stuck behind the NPC there, and took my time casting Charm. Took me 1 hour 50 minutes. Took me 1 hour extra though of constant zoning in and out to get the pet in the position i need, you can wait for a close one to move to the Shrine and then turn it aggro, it gets bound to the point where you turn it aggro.
Thanks again.
