My 2 monks, ‘Dr Baz’ & ‘Rite of Healing’, neither of them arrogant and really enjoy joining PUG’s.

Waiting for Monks to regen is plain silly. Next time the monk tells everyone to wait, ask, "What would you have done if another group just got aggro'd? Or if it was PvP where enemies don't die predictably?"

Outside of going nuts trying to get a third sword in Cantha, can you make a solid case for rushing to the next fight with less than optimal resources at hand? I can't. Warrior adrenaline is one thing, but when I play my Warrior, I wait for my Monks because I prefer not operating at a Death Penalty. I can build Adrenaline during the next fight just fine.

I thought at first it was a humor thread. Ridiculous, but funny. Unfortunately I was wrong. Besides various efforts of many to bring back to reality this stereotype subject, there is only one evident conclusion imo :

I think the importance of monks is far more exaggerated in PvE than in PvP. PvP has monks by the bucketload -- far more than anyone has any use for. Most PvP PUGs don't even give too much consideration to the monk builds because there are several standard builds that everyone uses (SB/Infuse, WoH, boonprot, bonder, etc.) and you can usually fill these spots in a few minutes. Never will you see a PUG screaming "6/8 lf 2 monks" for 20 minutes in any PvP location.
Another reason for the monk hate is that it is very hard for a monk to conceal his (lack of) skill. A bad mesmer (at least in PvE) is hard to distinguish from a good one. Similarly with a bad nuker, warrior, ranger or necro. The most you'll notice is that enemies die slowly and the players sometimes lose more health than sensible. A bad monk, on the other hand, will become immediately obvious. (This has a nice corollary: a good monk will clearly stand out, but a good warrior or ranger or necro is often indistinguishable from an average one.)

PvE and PvP have absolutely nothing in common in terms of monking. And if another group got aggroed then its hardly a monks fault is it. Accidents do happen of course, but in that case surely your SS necro should help the team a little by slipping in BR. You can't dedicate an entire skillbar to SS, thats why people call for SS/SB.

Heres one story, I was a monk in FoW and everyone was doing good job, but the other monk, who I notice to have no divine favor. So I pmed him and asked him his attribe points where. Of course he had it all in healing no divine favor. So I taught him how to play a monk correctly and i was Thanked for . There are some bad monks yes I know but there are also bad warriors,rangers,eles and etc. IMO monks just get alot of the blame since their are one of the important classes in Gw.
On the other hand rebirth cause the target's skills to be recharged 0% energy and 1/4 of life. This make us vulnerable.
And the UW part on monks some people might think most monk do uw runs I think its just sterotype(monk sterotype ) even though I do UW....

9. Agree. Tank should extend out of spell range to take aggro, this reduces the monk's workload immensely. Monks running after the aggro-taker causes loss of aggro often. Then the monk blames the war.
8. Monks aren't supposed to fight, if a mob is broken out, they should kite it if it is a threat, or tank it if it's not too dangerous. Aggro loss should be picked up as soon as possible, don't kite if you don't have to.
7. Unless you're a max energy ele spamming triple meteor shower and need all your energy at once, rebirth during a fight on a monk is fine. So agree. Rebirth FROM a monk during a fight, is not.
6. 1 warrior goes in, takes aggro. This keeps the team safer. Soft classes going in can break the aggro, require a closer monk and increase the risk. Battles take some time, casters can wait.
5. Generally agreed. The only time energy should be low is during a fight, as the battle is ending the reduced number of enemies reduces the amount of energy required for a monk to keep health up reduces as well. You can regen then.

#10: Heh, I've seen this one quite a bit. When I join a group I'll usually look for a balanced group, usually around one of each class or around those lines. Usually the last monk fills the group and then will demand that the 2nd or 3rd member be dropped because their a repeat (2 wammos, 2 sins, etc.). It's a shame a party leader will usually bow in to their demands just because we need a second monk. I don't especially feel like having a snobby counterpart monk.
#9: Heh, I've also seen this one too! Funny this. Bless them. All the equipment in the world and they seem to forget they have legs. Or maybe they play too much PvP and get called a 'runner' a lot.
#8: I rarely see these anymore and don't think they're that great. Usually I'll have to spend a bit of the energy gained to heal the person who cast it.
#7: I'll be pretty picky and say no more then 2 is enough unless in special circumstances.

#5: I'd appreciate if other PuGs would alert me to this except not be annoying by spamming it and clicking ninty times thinking it'll get me to move faster. Also if they'd stop spamming they have poison or bleeding which can be easily seen or not easily removable if there's a ranger constantly blasting it on them.
#4: Makes you see that one monk can heal a full party - 1! Although I probably screwed up a few times and landed in -60dpville.
#3: Heh, I made a joke about this before Factions came out because of how many assasins and ritualists there'd be. But I never charge. I always play to actually play the game and not redo missions unless helping someone else out.
#2: I do the opposite! I'll join the group and be like "Smiting FTW" or "Smiting is Awesome!" and of course be joking with them.
#1: I've seen this outside of UW. Conviently forgot despite the fact that they had plently of prep time. Sheesh.
Well, don't know if I really qualify as a good monk, or even average one, but I think these are some pretty well-spotted observations.

I'm having fun with it. And I just thought of two more reasons "Why PUGs hate Monks."
1. Because we have to spend hours in towns trying to get Monks to join the group, only to get Monks who get pissy when we whine about how they're not keeping us at optimum health.
To which Dora, Cora, Ahndia, and Chanti all agree: If you can't get by in a Mission using Lena and Aleshia or Mhenlo, then you really need to re-assess your abilities in your chosen profession.
2. All of those Monks out there running around with Yakslappers. That's cruelty to animals & I'll report you to PETA!
To which Chanti says: It's a good weapon with a crappy name. I'd never use it for slapping Yaks, as all that would do is make them angry. And God knows I don't want to get myself trampled by a mad Yak!

Hmm the only thing that's recently been annoying me concerning bad monks is the ones who think that you need 2 monks. Well any party that thinks they need 2 monks. No mission needs 2 monks, especially nowadays with Ritualists around. Well, Deep and Warren are an exception with 12 spots, gotta have 2 of *something* in any case.
