AFkers in Fort aspenwood
unknown1
Are these afkers going to be banned?
Desert Penguin
Not everybody has observed Fort Aspenwood, and some people have never been to Fort Aspenwood, so may I politely ask you to give us a little bit of detail? There are AFKers everywhere from Ascalon to Random Arenas as far as I know. What have you seen in Fort Aspenwood that makes AFKer's there different than other places?

some guildies thought we witnessed the fix for it the other night, only to be proven wrong. while doing a bonus for a tyrian mission, one guild had his second account in there sitting afk at the back while we went through the mission with his other account (and the rest of us).. after abit of time the second account disconnected, so we thought they were automatically disconnecting afk'ers. we found out otherwise when we got 3 afk'ers in a run in aspenwood later on that didn't disconnect (and they weren't the bots that just follow someone).

People are leeching faction by sitting in there AFK. The losing team gets around 320 faction now and the winning team around 600 so they get faction regardless. Of course this means one less team member per AFK'er for the team. It is annoying to the other people that are actually trying to enjoy the mission and beat the opponents (as well as getting just a slight bit more faction, though not much, by winning).

Oh ok, thanks CyberNigma

After seeing the amount of ppl going AFK and how I got verbally abused by a guy who was AFking, I think I'll go AFK as well. I found no use to be nice to anyone on GW anymore.

Well that's a generalisation. There are plenty of nice people on GW, its just that the bad ones spoil the rest. If I have a fruitbowl with 29 fresh, healthy apples and 1 rotten apple, the bad apple would wreck the whole fuitbowl and make it look bad. You would want all of the apples to be fresh. Unfortunately 1 in 30 GW players have a "rotten" attitude and this spoils it for the good people
chessyang

Between AFKers and rage quitters, FA can be really frustrating. But when you have two full teams that know what they're doing, FA can be some of the most fun you have in Factions.
I wish there was a simple solution, but I've yet to see one. There's been idle time suggestions, but that's not full proof and I think Anet would be hesitant to boot people without proper justification. People report AFKers, but I'm not so sure that's a solution either. I've seen the same AFkers on more than one occasion, knowing that they've been previously reported. I'm afraid that it'll come to the point that FA will be as empty as Jade Quarry...which would be a real shame since it can be so much fun.

0. The Ban List (by GrendelScout1) Refer the example for an idea of how this would work: 1. John know Mary is a leecher, AFKer 2. John adds Mary to his Ban List 3. John clicks "Enter Mission" in any random arenas 4. John will never be placed in the same team with Mary 5. Other players who did not add Mary to their Ban List could be teamed up with Mary 6. Friends of John who know and trust his judgement also place Mary in thier respective Ban Lists. 7. John and his friends live happily ever after. |

afk'ers and leavers.. thats all we seem to talk about these days.. it realy seems to have become more of a problem *sighs*

It's a major problem at Ft. Aspenwood. I rarely get a team without at least 1 leech, and often it's more like 2-3. It should be in the Rules of Conduct and they should receive a temporary (or if I had my way - permanent) ban.
They really are a sad and pathetic bunch of individuals.

there IS a rule against that. More specifically if player intentionally disrupts others' gaming experience or gains unfair advantage by using exploits/third part programs (bots)... bla bla bla...
Problem is ANet refuses to acknowledge that
1) they do it intentionally
2) they do use bot programs to constantly click "enter mission"
The only thing ANet agreed upon is that AFKers disrupt others' gaming experience, but that’s it.
My conclusion is that rules are fine and problem is more than solvable by banning ~100 people, but ANet is stupid and stubborn.

Things the community can do.
Report repeat offenders. Take screenshots of the incident including the game time. Update the support ticket every time you see it done again. And repeat. This sorta thing needs report volume. Report volume means community disruption. Community disruption = action (ban).

Very frustrating that in almost every battle I go into at Aspenwood, be it on Kurzick or Luxon side, there is alwaysalways at least 1 leecher just sitting there never moving.
I think Anet should address this issue, but instead of having Anet "fix" it or ban people they should let the players begin to police themselves at this one specific battle. I say they should make a new command for us to use. For example, just as a team can type /resign to quit a mission, I think a team in Aspenwood should be able to type /boot playername or /kick playername. This would have to be done by everyone on the team. Once typed in the offending player is removed thus getting ZERO faction. This method, or one that's similar, would let the players fix the problem and Anet would not have to take up much time with it and focus on other aspects of the game.

And who's to say that a person who is afk is actually doing something? On several occasions I've been waiting for the count-down to end when the phone rang and I was forced to listen to some fag talk to me..
They can't go banning random AFKers, unless they want to install a webcam at every single computer that has Guild Wars installed so they can check wether or not someone is on the computer. :x

The problem needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.
If they fail to address it soon in a public way, it'll become more and more popular.

We must find the factory.
Once we have found it we must shut it down.
These clonethreads must be coming from somewhere... If we shut down the factory that makes them...
The John and Mary thing won't work since everyone will be banning everyone else. What will happen instead is that you'll get a few nutcases who will put all the good and normal players on their banlist. That way, they are automatically put in teams with newer players or players who are easily influenced.
What will happen then is that this overlord will start controlling the puglets.
You'd be effectively breeding tyrants who control vast numbers of noobs, extort them, promise them heaven but isolating them in hell.
The noobs won't put the tyrants on their banlist because the tyrant doesn't allow them to. It's like playing Hitler or some Modern Communist leaders.
It has happened before (in other games) and can easily happen again if a banlist like that is added.

I'm not defending Anet here, but there's no simple way I guess.

.neuronster.
I do Fort Aspenwood all the time and it really pisses me off when there are leechers or when people leave. Its like the leechers just join the group so everyone else can get them their Factions. And for the people who leave, why even bother entering a battle?
I guess these are problems that will never be solved, unfortunatly. :\

I do fort aspenwood too often (I have ~95k luxon faction from aspenwood alone, gogo eoe) and it's gotten to the point recently where we take a count at the beginning of the match to see how many we have. It's not that there are one or two once in a while, there are one or more every single match.
Ranger Rog
I feel bad in a way that Aspenwood is so deserted, I stopped playing there because of the leechers, I can't stand anyone mooching from me, even if it is a game. I never had a single match without at least one AFK parasite. This would be pretty easy to fix for Anet, just make it so that if a player doesn't move, attack or use a skill within a certain time limit they get kicked back to the outpost without any faction reward. It wont stop the bots but I bet it would reduce the problem no end.
