Reduce dmg of bosses
twicky_kid
This is getting rediculous. I like a challenge but a 400 dmg in 1 shot is just plain stupid. I like the challenge of defeating bosses but not when the can do an instant kill if you have ANY dp at all.
Getting annoyed when a single boss can run through my party while I can't do any dmg because we are constantly ressing.
Reduce the bosses dmg. Its fun the first time but after the same boss kills you instantly 10 times in a row and you failed to kill any of his minions or him its just old.

once i was out through the kurzick lands, and me and the guild leader were trying to do a few quests here and there, we come across a ele boss, with some followers, and so we get in position to go in and smash stuff, i was with my always trusty warrior, and i go in and tackle the boss for a while, and then i move to the lesser enemies, first thing i notice is that half the team was already dead (we took henchies), i tried to quickly kill the lesser enemies, did it succesfully, while she ressed the henchies, i then go and tackle the boss again, the ele boss does a 250 or so fireball damage on me, dropping my health to 200 or a bit less, i used heal signet to get back to 100%, the boss then cast coal beds, i walk away to use heal signet, and while i do that the ele boss casts a fireball on me, doing 350 or so dmg on me, luckily i survive it, while she kept ressing the henchies and healing me, because the boss kept killing them.
in the end, i killed the ele boss, and finally we were able to res all the henchies.
are they hard? yes
are they impossible? nope
reducing slightly their damage would be good, instead of dealing 400 dmg, reduce it to 300, and that would be better and more manageable.

It's crap that they have constant health and mana regen, plus hexes and conditions are removed at about three times the normal rate.
I'd rather see them with a ton more health, like 2,000 health than regen and al the crap mentioned above.

I've gone through the entire Factions and Prophecies campaigns with no trouble. If you're having trouble in Factions, maybe consider taking a Domination/Interrupt Henchman to stop those skills.

erm bosses were meant to be harder then everything else. Plus people can solo them, bosses shouldnt be made easier.

Yeah, I haven't really had any issues either.... The only times it really got old was when I fought as a Monk with 7 henchmen, or when my Warrior was in the one Jade Sea co-op where you fight the Kraken. I forget the name.

Interupt rangers are not avilable everywhere. As it is, only Broadhead is of much use as an interupt vs ele bosses, since most spells have very shrt cast times. It really is just ele bosses that are a problem. Other bosses are sometimes painfull, but it's only ele bosses that are a problem. Yes, you can devote a character to defense, or have everyone to bring something just to take out the boss, but is that what we want? Should I need Ward vs Harm and Ward vs Elements, or a monk with RoF, Prot Spirit, Spirit Bond, Life Sheath just to help my henchies survive against an ele boss?
Yes, henchmen control is important, but when Sister Tai takes repeated 300 damage Lighting Orbs to the face, you're going to have problems.
The problem here is not that bosses deal more damage, it's the efect you get when you double the damage of a level 28 ele. No matter what we're not going to see Canthan Bosses given the same bonuses as Tyrian Bosses. You can deal with the damage output of a warrior boss. The problem is those 300+ damage Lighting Orbs that ele bosses throw around.
I'm glad bosses don't have something like 2000 hp, I'm glad that they're an honest threat, it makes gameplay interesting. A boss with 2000000 HP and normal damage is not scary, it's annoying. A boss with double damage, and ~700 HP is a signifigant threat, you start to consider nailing the boss before his minions. But a 300 damage lighting orb is a bit much.

Go to the undercity with a hench group. Do a U turn and fight the ele boss there. His lightning spell does 400+ dmg in 1 shot and recharges in less than 10 seconds.
Henchies are significantly weaker when it comes to armor. They only have 3 pieces you know. Don't compare this to a real player group. When you have henches the boss just runs through your party like he's on PCP. Since I have henches I'm the first 1 that gets hit every time.
My battle is like this. Hit the call till the henches run in first. I watch the first guy in go down to less than 1/4 life. Then I move up. BOOM I'm dead. Ressed move back some to cast. BOOM dead. Ressed again. Move behind a wall so orb can't hit me. Then some new spell that doesn't need a line of site hits me DEAD. Now I'm at 45 dp and used up all the res sig my party has just to res me.
Add on top of that he comes with 2 healers with martyr + purge conditions and heal area. This is total bs. Once you have any DP at all you have no chance to doing anything but being instantly killed by 1 spell.

uhhhh....
have you thought of modifying your skillbar/strategy?
i have never had a problem henching all the quests there are, if it results in a party wipe, i just wait for the full res and then head back to take another bite of the boss.
this happened to me at while trying to reach one of the luxon pvevp missions (i think luxon jade quarry) where first i faced an ele kraken boss, killed two of his minions, he wiped us out, next return i kiled the last minion and half of the nearby aggro that joined the fight and then he wiped us out, next time we killed the other half and f inally took down the boss, with just me and two other henchies.
soon after that, i come across a huge naga group, with a ritualist boss there, the first thing that comes to mind is "leeeeeroooooy jeeenkins" as i do the same thing, only this time taking one naga enemie down per run, after taking down all the enemies i took down the boss, and then i was able to reach the place i wanted to reach.
forgot to add:
oh yeah, what was your source for the henchy 3 armor thingy?

Sorry had a flashback there they have 5 peices. They used to only get 3 peices infused.
That's the point. I couldn't take down anything at that point. 60 DP on your entire part and 1 kill per cast every 7-10 seconds. I don't even get enough time to take down a healer. Just stonewalls me there.
I'm an Order necro that stands in the back. My bar is very basic necro dmg.
Vamp, shadow strike, dark pact, barb sig, order of pain, well of blood, healing breeze, res sig
Problem is the life is under 200 while I get hit for 400 per hit.

I do agree, that Ele boss you speak of is next to impossible to kill, well it is if your playing as a support character with a party of henchies. Though this wasn't the case when on any of my damage dealing characters, as she / he dies too quickly.

You just need to prepare for the boss - I like that they are hard, but they fall just as fast or faster than a regular mob if you bring a mesmer.

some bosses are doing x2 damage, like the warden mesmer of arborstone (near the urn), his e-surge does 160
another ritualist boss i found use ancestors rage which damaged 322.
why?????

i kind of agree
2x damage is WAY to much
i would say keep it down to 1.5x damage.

Shouldn't they pose some kind of challenge though?
I have used henchmen for the vast majority of my questing through the game. I very rarely have full wipe outs either. Here's a tip for pulling when using henchmen, use of the X(about face) button. I pull by running to the very brink of aggro and just barely in then hitting x so I run the other way when I am out with henchies. That way they don't decide to attack a target because I have selected it. With a longbow you're telling them it is ok to rush in, so they do. They aggro everything run back in range of casters and then die. My method works and I very rarely wipe out with henchies.

Bosses arent hard to kill, it's just the way you're trying to do that is killing you, speaking bout Chung, his little "ambush" indeed can wipe out you're party if you try to fight him surrounded... three words: retreat, regroup, regen

I generally agree that the bosses are way hard.. and it does seem to get a bit stale dying over and over.. but Im wondering what im doing wrong, and what i can do to improve my builds... maybe we should be thinking more carefully rather than complaining

So a boss killed you. Learn to kill him, not whine for a nerf. Yes, bosses are harder now, but they're hardly impossible. They now have half the defense and double the hex and condition duration that they had in Prophecies.

Personally, I've always hated bosses having uber powers like 2x damage, more health, etc. I agree, bosses should be more of a challenge, but I think there are much better ways of doing that than just making them demigods...
My proposal involves one or more of the following:
*Give the bosses fine-tuned and better AI than any other NPC or mob.
*Give them a special skill (much like the celestial skills or Shiro's skill list)
*Instead of bosses at times have 'champion' teams, a full balanced team with better AI
*Titan-like bosses that come back again and again, or other unique abilities
Implementing all of these things, creating truly unique and tough bosses would really switch it up rather than just hearty or heavy-hitting bosses that have normal ho-hum skills. I'm all for a challenge, I just hate un-realistic challenges.
Edit: Let me clarify something... I really have no problem with the difficulty of the bosses. In fact, I think they're still too easy. My point here is that I'd rather lose to a boss because he was tactical and essentially better skilled. Not to mention the realistic part of having a boss with special abilities because of what/who it is. 2x the damage just seems like a cop-out, TBH. Yes, mitigating the damage is easy, and that's why it's stupid.

But anyway, I don't like the double damage either, but not just because it makes bosses too powerful. I've come across some hard bosses and wiped once or twice on them, sure, but I've always been able to muscle through eventually. And if you bring the right counters, most of them aren't overly difficult. (For ele bosses, bring one of the ritualist henchies; Shelter helps a ton.)
The thing about simply doubling the damage is that it makes bosses that deal direct damage--such as elementalists and warriors--way more powerful, while barely affecting bosses than use armor ignoring damage, degen, and the like. This seems kind of stupid to me, as now any bosses that can do spike damage are insanely powerful (400+ damage Lightning Orb anyone?), while the rest aren't much harder than before. If they want to make bosses more powerful, that's fine with me, but I think they should at least make the power increase even across the board.

I think it's kinda hard when a double dragon kills your whole team in 1 shot... that's kinda sucks.
i hate bosses in cantha, i can beat them - no problem there, it's just that henchies are too fast dead. I can't do anything against it... starburst for example is impossible to interrupt and can deal 300+ damage to my full group (henchies don't really know how to kite )
so yeah, nerf bosses. not because they can't be beaten, but because it takes the fun out of it. or buff henchies for not getting instant killed by double dragon or crap skills like that. I mean, come on, these ele skills suck - they are just reliable because they do 4 times the damage they should do...

Tell your Monks to bring Protective Spirit and maybe Infuse, tell your Rangers to bring interrupts, tell your Ele's to bring Blinding Flash. If anyone ever dies, then someone has screwed up.

If you havent started to use prot spirit or shelter, now is the time to start. Interupts, blackout, debuff stacking (migraine/conodrum, faintheartedness/weakness, etc) and so on will drop that "uber" damage down to negligable levels. Nukes dont do jack when the guy is forced to cast 4~15s spells or if the target is gimped in other ways.
The only time i really have problems with the bosses, even while using henchies, is when there is 2 or more of them. Even then, when that situation occurs, i somehow screwed up and im forced to pull whoever is still alive back and try to seperate the two bosses.
Its really not that hard. In a way, i like to look at it as anet telling you to bring a mesmer or necro built for denial, or global coverage from a ritualist.

A boss has an elite skill-killing it shows your powerful enough to capture the skill and make it as your own. Most bosses I've fought as my assassin are pretty -lame- except the mages.. why on earth do the mages do double damage?
The only boss I must say that has a gimmick to it and is hard to kill. Is the blasted giant kraken in the luxon mission. Level 33 and I did it with henchmen! I know I'm crazy! But I killed it.
Oh well I'm at it I DISLIKE the fact some bosses can cast monster only skills that rape your party. Like the giant krakens one, or Argos before he becomes friendly. Those damnable Oni's too.. with demonic agility. Gah

Most bosses are pretty easy, the ele ones are tougher. If you fail, shuffle your skills to handle the boss and try again. You have a secondary profession, use some skills from that. For example I changed to mesmer and bought 2 skills just so I can take down that Mungri Magicbox monk boss.
It's all doable, just need a little patience.
