Working Theory: Drop Rate drops over time
lightblade
Looks like Anet had been working on closing the gap between hardcore and casual players.
My experience is...
First it was in Elona Reach: The first 3 farm runs of of the day get lots of drops. But get almost no drop after the 5th run
Now it's UW: Everyday, I get 1 ecto in UW on first run of the day. 2nd and 3rd runs get no ecto. The odd thing is that I ALWAYS get 1 ecto on the first run of the day.
And so...farm for 1 hour everyday and you pretty much get about the 50%loot as hardcore players.
6/15 Update: It seems like there's a nerf in UW after the patch, I got 3 runs and not a single ecto droped. As I stated above, I used to always getting an ecto on my first run of the day...but not today...

Mythic antifarm code, many have made mention to it. Comes up in a tip; drops will begin to run out if you kill the same area too many times.
Unfortunately, megafarmers doing trolls etc will still pull in huge loot from white items sold to merchant.

Just take a look at green drops, when Sorrows Furnace was released, me and some mates decided to explore the area. The first boss we killed dropped an item (the un-nerfed Rockmolder BTW). then very rapidly the drops started getting rarer and rarer. Same thing with Kepkhet, I went out with some people and killed her 1h after update, she directly dropped a staff for me. Later, I killed her many times and none of the peopel I played with got any green. As Avarre said there is some mythic anti-farm code behind it.
mrcake
i had 6 diffrent greens drop in the space of 2 hours the other day, and only on one boss did i ever get the anti farming message pop up, so went and killed another boss, came back to the one i got the farming message on and it gave it's green straight away...
Slainster
Ive only had 3 greens drop 2 are Flints artifact and the other was the necs staff (cant remember the dudes name)... *sigh*

Morgriff, Brotak, Villnar, Gordac?
I've never been affected by an anti-farming code I don't think. I've did 10 UW smite runs in a row some days and never seen any poorer drops. I don't think Anet would go to so much trouble to implement these codes but we'll never know.

I farmed trolls nonstop for 7-8 hours once. I kept getting good stuff all the time.
I still don't believe the farmingcode exists.

I agree with Avarre that there is antifarm code. When I had started playing I always noticed if you were in the same area for different quests the drops were simply not as good (*cough* Ascalon and Kaineng *cough*).
When a quest spanned multiple areas the drops usually were better.
It definitely has something to do with zoning and time spent in an area.

Well, there has always been speculation and hype concerning drop mechanics ... and no real info from ANet other than that handy pop-up box that appears if you farm an area repeatedly ...
TBH: I doubt Anet will ever tell us how the drop system works, as it could lead to exploitation and abuse ... even if it's designed to prevent it
just my two cents

you want proof ?
leave the aurios mines, you will see a boss with the name "culthist milthuran", solo farm him 7-10 times, he will stop dropping anything
zone in/out, go back kill him again, and again, no drops, not anything

When I first started playing Factions, I got drops all over the place. Now with several chars leveled up, doing varied things, not hitting the same area twice, the drops are way down. So, I think there may be an hours played penalty here too.

I just think some people have better luck than others. Why would ANet give us a popup warning us about overfarming in some situations, but then secretly nerf drops in other situations? That doesn't make sense to me.
Bane of Worlds
I have such a horrible luck lol
but troll farming to me is distasteful lol

ANet complains about their economy screwing up, yet they have an anti-farm code. gg anet.
dare49devil
You can reset your drops.
Sir Skullcrasher
My way of farming is go to one place and switch after one hours or so. Never notice the drops changed or decrease to a point where nothing dropped for me
MMSDome
Your theory is just myth and coincidence. The way i farm is farm trolls with 55 mesmer (avarres build) then when the code kicks in i farm trolls with my warrior.
lyra_song
I have a built in natural anti-farming code. ADHD. GG. XD
no seriously.
Drop fatigue is real, things like number of people farming, frequency, plus i think random luck all factor in.
But we wont know, cause Anet would be silly to tell us. Best bet, just play!

What you say is right, it sucks, buty luckily anet has given us a way to reset our drops, an extremely profitting way to becomee rich, fast. Unfortunately, i am not prepared to release this information, any hardcore farmer will probably have noticed how anyway.

is it called "log out, close app, open app, log back in"?

There definitely is something happening when you go to an area often and I don't mean the notorious popup message. When I started doing oro farms in SF, I got lots of greens and some of them really good. Later I hardly ever saw one.
Now I started doing UW smite runs and the drops are getting worse and worse. But when I took my friend with me (his first time), he got 5 ectos on single run. So it's probably more profitable to take a complete newbie with you for a farming run.

There *IS* a farming code. You probably troll farmed bout couple months ago i assume? The anti-farming code started about a while ago and if u try it right now, youll notice the huge difference.

Btw if anyone wants to avoid the code all the time, do what I do. Do 2-3 troll runs, then switch to minotaur runs for 2 or 3 times, then repeat the switch around.
TheLordOfBlah
I switch between SS and 55 for 2 man UW runs so I get sooper lewt lolz.
When we dont have favor, I switch between 55 and war for Minotaur runs.

I have had the farm code pop up only once; after a solid weekend of rt/me soloing shreader sharptongue and his vermin mates in the skyway region of cantha. Got 6 sets of his green daggers before tip window appeared and code kicked in.
BTW.... how long does it take for code to deactivate? any ideas theories etc

I've farmed Sskai a few times, my first encounter with the anti-farmingcode and still no sword.
I read something about doing missions so I tried Nolai Academy, 5 minutes, and went back.
First try, Sskai sword for me, YAY
So maybe doing a mission works with you guys too?

I remember when i first started doing UW, i would get 1-2 gold items and 2-3 ectos per run. Nowadays, im lucky to get 1 ecto and 1 out of 5 chests are gold.
Everytime we bring a new player to teach them how to trap, we usually have good drops. We also insist that the new player is the one to pay since the rest of us are "nerfed". I dont know if its consistent with what the actual drop fatigue is like, but it behaves consistently like this for me.
My guildmates also know that I'm always the first to grab an ecto, whenever im leading the party for some reason.

I am on my 23rd consecutive boss (most of them are different bosses). I have been dropped NOTHING (and I mean NOTHING) except for 1 mantis pincer and a blue non-max hammer (both from the same boss). Anti-farming code? Nah, Arenanet just hates me.

I went from 1 ecto per UW run to 4 in one run. How you might ask? Started working on those title tracks.

But, whatever floats their boat. I gave up on trying to make money a very long time ago.
Count to Potato
I dunno about drop rates in all, but when i farm Naphui, for me gold heaven! Max Celestial Longbow 15% -5 Nrgy first run, 10 recharge, 10 Casting +5 Nrgy 20% Enchant Restoration Staff 3rd run

I have noticed a decline in quality after a number of runs aswell.
It was strange to note the drops one time we did a Guild run for DNKP (but Mhenlo quest was activated meaning no Titans). Since the mission was screwed our MM leader wondered off to hunt ettins. Drop after drop was purple items
So maybe farming with more than one person ups the quality of drops slightly
