I have a built in natural anti-farming code. ADHD. GG. XD
no seriously.
Drop fatigue is real, things like number of people farming, frequency, plus i think random luck all factor in.
But we wont know, cause Anet would be silly to tell us. Best bet, just play!

There definitely is something happening when you go to an area often and I don't mean the notorious popup message. When I started doing oro farms in SF, I got lots of greens and some of them really good. Later I hardly ever saw one.
Now I started doing UW smite runs and the drops are getting worse and worse. But when I took my friend with me (his first time), he got 5 ectos on single run. So it's probably more profitable to take a complete newbie with you for a farming run.

There *IS* a farming code. You probably troll farmed bout couple months ago i assume? The anti-farming code started about a while ago and if u try it right now, youll notice the huge difference.

I have had the farm code pop up only once; after a solid weekend of rt/me soloing shreader sharptongue and his vermin mates in the skyway region of cantha. Got 6 sets of his green daggers before tip window appeared and code kicked in.
BTW.... how long does it take for code to deactivate? any ideas theories etc

I remember when i first started doing UW, i would get 1-2 gold items and 2-3 ectos per run. Nowadays, im lucky to get 1 ecto and 1 out of 5 chests are gold.
Everytime we bring a new player to teach them how to trap, we usually have good drops. We also insist that the new player is the one to pay since the rest of us are "nerfed". I dont know if its consistent with what the actual drop fatigue is like, but it behaves consistently like this for me.
My guildmates also know that I'm always the first to grab an ecto, whenever im leading the party for some reason.
"How much you wanna bet Lyra's gonna get the first ecto?"

"Bladed Aataxe drops a Glob of Ectoplasm for Bunny Faddenholsts."

But, whatever floats their boat. I gave up on trying to make money a very long time ago.

I have noticed a decline in quality after a number of runs aswell.
It was strange to note the drops one time we did a Guild run for DNKP (but Mhenlo quest was activated meaning no Titans). Since the mission was screwed our MM leader wondered off to hunt ettins. Drop after drop was purple items
So maybe farming with more than one person ups the quality of drops slightly
