Option to NOT display headgear on character select screen [petition]......

Even though the character select screen has been updated for Nightfall, the headgear display setting still only saves for...

- warrior
- necro
- elementalist

but still DOESN'T save for...

- ranger
- mesmer

---old---

Anyone else want an option to NOT display headgear on character select screen? Makes it easier to show your friends what your characters look like when they're over at your house, or take screenshots of your character roster with and without helmets.

Currently, if you have your headgear turned off on your character, you have to log in and out to have the headgear off on the select screen for a short time. I suggest either that setting should be saved or have an option to turn headgear on / off on the select screen...

Part of the issue with headgear being show at the select screen is it covers up the face of your characters, which in some cases makes them harder to identify if you have more than one character with similar headgear / armor.

The headgear option is ALREADY possible to be saved for ELEMENTALIST headgear, so why don't they keep it consistent and make it possible for all the other headgears too?!?

Its not a bad idea, its just not a usefull idea. I dont see the purpose for this, the reason you see the headgear on the char selection screen is because it shows all your armor, it really should show weapons set too but meh. just because you choose to hide it in game dosnt mean your char isnt wearing it.

No need for this, you can already do it:

1. When in game, select "Always hide" your headpeice
2. Log off, and then back in again
3. Your character won't have have it on.

If you have your head gear set to "always hide" in game, it would be nice if that applied to the character selection screen without having to log in and out and in again. That's just annoying.

that is exactly how it doesn't work. (3) only works for the last character used. The rest of them will always have headgear on.

Mate, have you actually test and tried this method before posting this information in here?

I have "Always Hide" for the headpiece for all my characters, and I still see them wearing their head piece sometimes.

This is admittedly picky, a very minor thing of no consequence, but it can't be hard to correct. Besides, I flinch whenever I see my Warrior wearing that ghastly Ascalonian/Recruit's helm.

Shut GW down, as in close it; then reopen and see if that sticks. Newsflash: It does not.

I'll sign this one. It is annoying that sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. A minor bug, but still a nagging one.

most of the headgear is butt ugly and I never show it in game. I don't want to see it when I log on either. Bags on heads and hasmat masks look totally rediculous.

Think it was intended to work like the OP suggested. I know every character of mine has the option "Always hide" checked for the head piece, but only my elementalist is actually displayed without a head piece on the character select screen; the rest still have their helmets on. Not sure why anyone would not sign this under the excuse that "they don't see a reason it needs to be implemented", seems pretty childish. But yeah, I am pretty sure it's a bug, and that the character is suppose to be displayed on your character select screen the same way he is displayed in game, minus the guild cape of course, given that the elementalist behaves this way..

yes, we are aware of this... but the point the OP made, is that the game for whatever reason, doesn't always remember this setting. It's a pain to have to log in and out sometimes, several times to get the character not to show its headpiece in the log in screen. I've noticed that tattoos often show up in the default colours too, and not the colour you so painstakingly dyed them in game.

Mate, it does work. However I found it works randomally and also seems to have something do with where you character is when you log off (Log off, not close the game down).

I still won't /sign it because there is other things A.net could be working on.

However you can hid it on the PvP character creation screen, so maybe they can bridge it over from there.

rubbish... complete waste of the time for anet to work on.. i'd rather they spend their time on trade improvements than "options to display/not display headgears on character select screens". This is essentially an all important update equal to the minipet of shiro's swords addition..

all the ppl that complain this will take too much anet time to fix...it is not supposed to take very long to fix at all...

all anet needs to do is make sure that headgear setting saves for each character at the selection screen...

anyone comparing the time it takes to fix this small bug versus creating additional game content is asinine...

Definition of asinine on the Web:

devoid of intelligence
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

Nice... so not agreeing with something means I lack intelligence? How do you work that one out

Really no one has a right to comment on how long it would take to implement this "feature" as we aren't the programmers of the game.

Doesn't devoid me of intelligence mind you.

The login screen is very buggy in this regard. Not only odes "hidden" head gear reappear, but armour colours change - my monks red tattoos generally appear as blue at the login screen. There is definately *something* not working correctly there.

I cannot believe this actually got people disputing this suggestion. Absolutely nothing on this forum ever gets the full approval of the community. Can't ever please everyone I guess.

I highly doubt this would take more than 10 minutes for 1 person at ANet to correct, if that. Since the login screen has demonstrated that it can concievably recognise when your char's headgear isn't showing, someone can just go in and have that setting saved to an external file - perhaps the same file that keeps track of which armor you are wearing.

And you cannot argue that "we don't know how long it would take, therefore they shouldn't do it." That is a plea to ignorance; you can say, "for all we know it takes forever and isn't worth it," but for all we know it takes a minute and is worth it. You can let ANet make the judgement call. In fact, it's hardly even a plea to ignorance since some of us actually do understand programming and can guess pretty well how the login screen was made.

its a bug to perfectionists.. it doesn't affect gameplay. It's just something that people find annoying (but for what reason? "omg my headgear is showing!!! i'm going insane!").. I mean.. big deal, you character is looking ugly for 5 secs before you select him to play the damn game.

If the headgear continued to show ingame with the option selected to Do not display headgear (notice: while in game) then I would support this.. but.. its the character selection screen. How many minutes would you actually spend staring at that screen? You want to show your friend your characters? Select him/her and show him in game and you get a bonus of showing gw's graphics too.

On the other, it's kinda annoying.

if the setting is working in game it would be working on the select screen also, it shouldnt take much time to fix...its just a matter of getting the setting saved right...

again, its for making it easier for people to take screenshots of their character roster w/o headgears and for showing off to friends, etc. and its already possible to be saved for one profession, so it shouldnt be long to make it work for all the other proffessions too...

The login screen is not supposed to look this way, obviously. It needs to be fixed, if Anet wants Guild Wars to seem like a classy piece of software, and not full of bugs.
Most people's first impressions of Guild Wars are from the login screen, and this bug just looks bad.
