GW doing so good that wow droped price
sigried
Incase you have not notice recently after the release of GW factions WOW price droped from 49.99$ to 29.99$.
In my case i have to say that im a dual player i have both but i really spent more time in GW than wow, since factions came out there are hole weeks that i dont log in WOW.
I think wow is gettin worried hehehe

I seriously doubt that the price drop is corellary to Faction's release.
Games tend to drop in price after selling a certain amount or a certain amount of time.
WoW can't undercut GW in pricing.

yeah but it depends how long has WOW mantain the price at 49.99, and bam the next moth after release of factions came down 10$ and during the next moth another 10$.
i think is due to some reason dont you think.

WoW does NOT suck. However, it tends to be much more addictive than GW, which is why I can't play it.
The fact that WoW dropped in price might be related to the fact that it has been in retail for 1.5 years and that there will be an expansion soon.

yeah but it was right after GW release that makes you think

WoW is setting up to release its own expansion, Burning Crusade. This could just be them setting up the market and nailing down a cheaper pricepoint for the original game so that new players will be more enticed to buy it when the expansion comes out.

I believe sigried is looking wayyy too much into a coincidence. I've been playing guildwars for a LONG time, and in fact, i bought WoW this monday, and I've been playing that. both games are fun, and both have their strong points, however, while not bashing GW in the least bit, i am currently enjoying WoW a bit more, probably cuz it's still new for me. Just took a tangent, and back to the Ops thing, WoW has been out for quite a while, longer than guildwars, and it is coming with an expansion pack EXTREMELY soon, so a price drop would be expected. Plus, WoW has a monthly fee, and I believe (correct me if i'm wrong) that it also has quite a few more players than GW. WoW doesn't need to make all its profits from selling the game itself, as GW does, so it can also afford to drop the price of the game itself. Once again, this is my opinion, nothing more, but i believe i'm right in some aspects.

I agree with Sig that it has to do with guild wars, which is WoWs main competitor, but it has more to do with business structure than Blizzard getting worried. The business model for WoW is based on getting more and more people playing to make more revenue through subscriptions, as opposed to guild wars would once you buy, there the shot of cash . Its reduction is probably timed by their marketing in order to coincide with Factions and the timely release of their expansion. Its done to possibly bring in a few more suckers... I mean customers.
Personally, in terms of pure marketing, GW is a genious new idea, the stand alone continuation. It gets more new people in teh game in waves, while mostly maintaining the old, while pay for expansions tend to dwindle in popularity as the user base gets smaller and smaller with no new infusions lie GWs gets. If I remember correctly (might not be), GWF brought in almost double the new players (multi accounts included of course).
The reduction in price for WoW is by no means a decrease in hope for Blizzard or them getting worried, or even getting slightly unpopular, its merely business tactics in order to maximize their profits.
And in response to SincorpDeath, WoW and GW are about equal in the states, WoW ahead, but worldwide, GW, again last I checked the market, is more or less owning WoW. Its profit is also mostly generated by sales, then subscrip. Subscription mostly pays for server fees and things going back to the players. Which is why I dont like pay for play but thats just cuz im poor.

Just a little bit of advice, GW: Factions is selling for $36.87 at my local Wal-Mart, just local sale? If not, everyone shold go buy another copy!
Branskins
I have tried getting into WoW twice so far, and twice I have cancelled! It is just too much work and grind for my liking =/
sigried
weird i see that the price is still the same man 49.99

Guess it's local, come down to Florida and get yours! Hee hee....

i believe (and don't quote me on this) that the wow community is now 16 million strong. if the boys & girls at blizzard were smart, they would just give away the base game when the expansion comes out since they're still making money hand-over-fist with their monthly subscription rates.

This community seems to have some sort of WoW complex. Every time somebody mentions WoW ingame, even in a non offensive manner, some kid pops-up and starts bashing it.

games are always lowered after a certain period..this is to invite the cheapskates to purchase the game for half price.. (remember even at 29.99 they are making a hefty profit) the whole package prob cost below $5 to produce
1 years time you will find WOW/GW in the bargain bin at your local gaming shop

WOW is a major snooze fest for me. I've tried to get in to that game 3 times, and I always end up quiting. I don't think its so much the grind, because Guild Wars has grind and I do okay. I think it has to do with the traveling system, it seem like you have to walk for hours to get anywhere, and forget about quickly meeting up with members of a guild for some quick pvp or fun missions, it just takes to long to do things. I'm surprised that WOW is still selling as good as it is, I just don't get that game.

Circuit City was selling WOW last week for $19.99.

"In my case i have to say that im a dual player i have both but i really spent more time in GW than wow, since factions came out there are hole weeks that i dont log in WOW." -- you and me both.
When Prophecies first came out, I thought of it as "we're number two, but we try harder." But with the advent of Factions and news that more chapters are on the way, the GW Series is no longer number two. And ANet is still trying harder!

funny games like wow and lineage.. guys at college just setup servers- max out thier stats and get everything they want and run around till they get bored.. move on to other games that are fun like oblivion.. least there's some skill involved in gw even though it's instanced- the gear and level does'nt make the player- the arguements in this game are way different I noticed.. it's more along the lines of you suck- he sucks (but I gotta admit runescape had a pretty interesting pk system with the woods and levels back in the classic- was'nt anything deep but alot of fun).. least this game's not dang look at that guys edong armor he's level 100 with booty buster sword it's so played out once you've done it- can't beat the no fee

I just paid 40$ for WoW here in North Dakota. I bought it because GW factions was only good for a couple months.

There's some sort of free 10 day demo, for people who want to experience the incredible suckiness of WoW for themselves...

I played lineage 2 for awhile when I felt burnt out on gw and needed to find something else to occupy my time for awhile. I never really got into it hardcore like but enjoyed just loading up and doing whatever I put on my agenda. Also the Fem dark elf is very easy on the eyes imo. In the end though I got back into gw and have continued to enjoy it since then.

I will not play any online game that has a monthly fee. WoW is $10? $5? no thanks...I'll stick with GW. I bought Factions since release and I still haven't finish with the game yet. yar...me slow poke >.<

I Hate WoW, especially the Devs for it. I Used to check out their forums when I still played the game. In one, someone made a thread asking for an option to make shoulder pads invisible like the helmets and cloaks, because the shoulder pads in that game all look so rediculous. There were, at the time, over 500 pages, roughly 20 people per page, all aggreeing completely with this idea. Then a Blizzard Rep posted saying how they would never add that, because they feel the shoulders are important to the art (or something like that) of the game, and that they like the mood that everyone having those shoulder pads adds to the game. Basically, he said F*** you, it's our game and we have more fun when we see everyone in those rediculous shoulders.
God I hate them...

Well first, the problem with what that Rep said is that EVERYONE wanted the change, and they still refused to even allow the choice because they like the way giant shoulder pads look. Second, thatisn't the only reason I hate WoW, that was just an example.
Here's another one: Everything looks like a cartoon!!
Here's one more: The only game I have ever played with more grinding than that piece of crap, is Lineage II. Grinding is NOT fun. You're basically paying them to steal your time.

16 million users in WoW??? I hardly doubt that, im mean cmon, you sure that isnt 16 million CHARACTERS? Prove it to me, unless I do it myself in two seconds, that that is the userbase for WoW worldwide. I just have no faith in that number.

What I hate most about it is the skillsystem. It is not limited like we have in GW. You end up with the players wasting their whole darn lives basically having much advantage... especially when they have their "epics", mounts, Honor, "Uber weapons of doom" (lol) and whatnot.
Now here I go for citing resources
What you end up with is a game that
A. charges monthly
B. harvests chinese farmers because people with lives cannot get the "uber weapons of doom" and level 60 --> http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2003/07/16
C. has crappier graphics than the beta of Guild Wars
D. has "better PvE" *cough* http://www.thenoobcomic.com/daily/strip163.html
http://www.thenoobcomic.com/daily/strip180.html http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2005/11/28 http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2005/08/26 *cough*
E. has hardly any instances
F. has lots of maintainence times (compared to the one or two times in 1 year we had)
G. has lots of grind (grind fro armor, weapons, and fees for repairing armor/weapons)
Back to your regularly scheduled GW:
