Thanks for all the nice comments, it's really appreciated.
Ok, Selena, I think you did absolutely great. Good pose and nice background setting. When I do mine I always forget that Lion's Arch and it's surroundings can make for beautiful backdrops. The one thing I think you could do with your pic would be to use the Dodge Tool and make some background elements a bit brighter. The sky is bright blue so it should have more light into it. I use the Lighting effect because most of my shots are taken in Cantha where the sky is always filled with clouds.
TheLordOfBlah: Just like Selena, your first try is very good. One thing I can point (which I didn't specify in my tutorial) is that when you do the erasing, keep in mind that you want to achieve the 35mm look. So if your character stands out, the ground in his immediate surrounding should be clear as well. For reference, look at my first post and check the picture with Saiko my fire elementalist, you'll see first hand what I mean.
OMFGimCUTE: Noted.
Alpha Mote: I really like it. The sky above Old Ascalon is really great and sets the mood. Truly another place I've neglected to travel to for some pictures.

Wow, I really like that one. Now if you could, erase some of the area around your monk; say the portion from the bottom of the image right up to his ankles.

Ah! That was taken right outside Shing Jea monastery. when you exit it's the first place you see. I took several shots there because I find it very beautiful with the distant temples and overcast sky.
This is truly amazing. I never tought one second that the type of picture I made would catch on like this. Not only that but you guys are making truly beautiful pieces. Let's keep them coming!
leech
here's a couple i made, first one was using a technique similar to the one you posted bethany, but i didn't do any of the things that made it brighter (ie. dodge). the second one is just a simple lighting effect, not complicated at all but i thought it looked great.

I posted this pic in another thread, can't remember which. But I decided to alter it, add highlights/shadow to the armor in portions that needed it.

what version of photoshop?
fb2000
noone said anything for mine :<
oh well
i personally only use dodge/burn for such corrections, it gives more freedom than the lightning effects.
lightning effects are good for 3d simulating tho^^

this is a Andy Worhal rip off I decided to make.
and I forgot how I made it but I did the day after faction release.
and I dun wanna forget this one, I made it before beth made her tutorial, so I used a different blur filter, to much blur, and a different way to make the effect(I used all dodge tool because I didnt know the lighting render was there lol).

Leech: I like the waterfall setting. Isn't that in the Maguuma Jungle? Have to try it.
Queen Christie: I absolutely *love it*. One smallish thing; don't forget the ground next to your character should also be erased to complete the 35mm effect. On your last two images, have you set the Gaussian to 3.0 or a bit more? The last shot of your mesmer is gorgeous with the waterfall in the back.
Rex the Unloving: I like the way the character is standing. One thing you might try is to use the Dodge Tool on your character to make him stand out a bit more.

Nevin: Great work on the armor. I absolutely love using the Dodge tool on my characters, makes them stand out.
LiamB: Soft Omni didn't work? Hmm... strange. But great start. As for your question, I'll check out in PS. For your monk, well, even if you "overused" the Dodge tool, it gives your monk some kind of halo.
Selena_Lionheart: You chose a very interesting background and the way you illuminated your ranger makes it look like she's catching on some sun from a clearing. I like it.
TheRanger: It's a great start. Now, make your Soft Omni larger to give more light, erase the blur on the rock your ranger is standing and use the Dodge tool a bit on him. I want to see how it turns out.
Android Girl
Thats its bigger. ^_^

My first try... Good thing is, all the tools have the same names in PSP, although configuring them works a little different. I'm not entirely satisfied with the result though. I think I overdid it with the dodging on the shiny armor parts. also, maybe I should've blurred Grenth less.
On a side note, this is one of my first ever GW screenshots, which has been sitting in my screens folder for over a year now.
