Gaile Gray
The Great Al
My problem isn't with Gaile, it's with Anet...i think Gaile is great; I could never do what she does. Anet focuses too much on the cutesy stuff, than stuff that we really want...this festival, adding a weapon to my jade armor pet...honestly, give us the storage already...i dont even care about minipets at all, a mask that doesnt even have AL, give us something relevant to game play that we have been asking for over a year....it's not like we're asking for something outrageous like crystalline swords for everyone; asking for storage, or usable drops for casters shouldnt take so long to implement a game.
if Anet can put an entire chapter out in a year, how could it take so long for those things to be implemented?

GW is not free, the lack of a monthly fee is Anet's business model; it is not a favor being given to the player base nor is it something they are doing to be nice. Anet is doing this to pull in players that do not feel paying to play a paid for game is fair. Each player still has to purchase the initial game and expansion...err, add on to play the content that Anet provides.
No Anet rep has ever said or used the lack of a monthly fee as a reason to not add or "fix" something*, only the religiously fanatic fans have ever used that as an excuse; for what reason continues to elude me. If people do not voice concerns (in a civil manner) then nothing would ever improve.
Can we please attempt to stop using Anet's business model as a poor excuse for lack of player requested additions?
* If any Anet rep has used this as an excuse, please provide the link and details where we can find it and read it.
OT; Gaile does what she can while trying to keep the players happy. It's all she can do. I would imagine she get's tired of the complaints and does relay the message (wouldn't you if you heard it a dozen times in an hour?) to those who care about it. Her job stinks (IMO) and I wouldn't wish a PR/CR job on anyone these days; especially when it comes to talking to us fanaticaly fickle gamers (and I'm one of the most picky).

I'm not going to talk about the Gaile Gray issue, she's just a mouthpiece for the company. No matter what her faults are, the very fact that she exists is a good thing. The main problem with Guild Wars (in my opinion obviously) is that there is a serious lack of communication between the game (ANET) and the players (us).
For three months (between january and march), I played World of Warcraft. On WoW, communication between players and the company is a lot easier. They have an option to open a ticket describing your problem, for all moderators to see. I used it twice during my stay on WoW, and each time got a satisfactory response/conversation with an admin within the hour. If I have an issue with someone/something on Guild Wars I wouldn't even know how to get in touch with ANET! The only communication with the game I have ever witnessed was through exchanging pleasantries with Gaile Gray and the frog... and that's not exactly a 24-hour service that all players can get in touch with. What ANET sometimes seems to forget is that we're not just the players... we're the customer. Is it because they don't charge monthly fees that they don't care about how players feel once they have the game? I admit, World of Warcraft needs to keep in touch with its community or they lose a source of revenue. ANET can ignore us if they want, theyve already gotten all they could out of us by selling us the game, what do they care if we enjoy playing it?
I find this attitude rather distasteful, and proof of a serious lack of respect for their customers. I was all for supporting them financially, I bought the collector's edition of both games even though the Prophecies one was absolutely not worth it. But now they refuse to even listen to us...
Please ArenaNet, change your attitude towards us.

I did pay to play. I think you already forgot that you had to buy the game, and that it is on a free internet, but you stilll need an outside line with a monthly fee.

How many people would complain that Anet never does anything fun?
------------
Yes i think we all know Anet is slow.
SLOOOOOOOOOW.
Like i isaid on that other thread that got closed down "slow like a snail on butter on ice". XD
When the 20/20 sundering upgrade happend but not for greens, what did I do with my Victos? Nothing. It sat in my bag. Did i sell it? No. Did i buy a new one to replace it? No. That would be silly.
I held on to that 10/10 sundering piece of crap. In the back of my mind, i had faith that Anet will fix what they broke. It was not justified to leave me with a 10/10 sundering axe. I was annoyed, but also patient. So i waited.
Then they fixed it. Hurray. My axe is usable again.
Guess what i did with it? I gave it to my friend because she was sad that she sold hers only to find out it got upgraded.
Now why did she get screwed and I didnt? Because i was patient.
I was justified in my annoyance/anger/complained and i got vindicated.
But it took a long time. Too long for most people apparently. -.-
At least you not waiting 5 years for a wedding proposal :P

I have three lvl 20 characters and over 1000 hours in the game; four other people in this household also play (it's a family hobby) at different levels ranging from very casual (11yo) to extremely serious (myself and my oldest daughter). We have both chapters for all of us (yes, 10 purchases).
Having worked in the computer game business, and having long (25 years) background in software development and support, I can say only one thing about Gaile and ANet:
Thank you, and congratulations on keeping your sanity amid the complainers and moaners. Many of us appreciate you!
That said, I've found the festival and its missions to be a lot of fun, and certainly not a waste fo time. I use a mule for storage, so it's not a big issue. I'd like better trade, but can live with what we've got.
Frankly, I've gotten more than my money's worth out of GW, and eagerly await what else they might do. It's just a game, folks -- and name me any other activity you can spend this much time for so little money.

I agree with Inde. It must be extremely difficult to be working on updates for the site with xxxx users of this forum not only anxious for them, but really, demanding them. It is difficult to do, and we have no right to complain.
About Gaile:
Most games don't even have a customer relations person, but Guild Wars does. We are lucky we do, but for some reason we all always come up with excuses like "Guild Wars has to have things like Gaile to keep the community busy, or else we wouldn't be playing this game."
If you have a problem, just stop playing. You can keep complaining, but really, I dare you to stop playing. Half of the people on this forum couldn't stop playing if they tried. It seems to me the game must be good if you can't even stop playing.

As for people saying people are whining they are not! they payed for a product the have every right to be up set with the product! They payed money for the game! If Arenanet is thinking 1 thing, and the players are saying another, This implies that a level of communication is missing between us here and the devs, i wonder what or who that level is. So i hung around in id 7, and sat around, this emperor event was supposed to start 2 hours ago, and as you all know, alot of people were angry because the event was tos tart 2 hours ago, and there was NO word from anyone official on WHY, a 150 + post thread here with NO REPLY FROM GAILE, NOTHING. No link of communication between us and the devs, because Gaile Gray is too busy sitting in id7 answer questions about mini pets, The fact that there are 10's of thousands of angry players seeking answers, maybe official word on what had happened , why the event did not start at the time posted on their site, it was of more importance of gaile gray to sit in ID 7 telling someone that there is no new armors untill chapter 3. So i ask all you gaile worshippers, What are her priorities? Whats more important to her, Relaying information from The Devs to US the communtiy (community relations manager) or to answer questions about mini pets and armors, at a time where thousands of angry players are sitting around a district idlely, what are her priorities? discuss. |
Not everyone can handle truth. You have to remeber that gaile grey is human. She may have not been ready for a tuff question or questions. I think people should give her a break!
I am sure anet cares, If they didnot they wouldnot take the time to post in fourms.
Anet stressies sooo much that they care!
I think gaile grey should of addressed the problem saying she is not ready, or she could have given a reasonable answer. however give the lady a break she doing a really tuff job. I think it was best for her to do that on a more proffessnail side. It is like news caster trying to reach the goverment speaker.
As for people saying people whining! they payed for the product. They have very right to be upset with their prduct. It is called business.

Those thinking more storage is a cost prohibitive issue for Anet have no clue what server space really costs.
|
I like it. If Anet breaks something, it goes into a "to fix" slot that does not occupy your existing storage.
But really is that feasable or even really cost efficient?
I feel that storage is less about space as it is about technicalities.

What to talk about a technical problem, report a player's misbehavior, etc? Go to the Support tab on the GW website, a 24 hour service that all players can get in touch with, and you'll get your reply in less than 24 hours.
Do you think Gaile is there doing technical support? Do you think her task is to sort through player's problems and answer each person individually? Do you even know what you're talking about before you whine?

Why do you think Gaile and Alex Weekes post here and on the other GW websites? Why do you think she appears to talk with people in game? Why do you think Arena Net is going to allow people to get their Dragon Masks one week after the event has ended?
You could disregard all of those as PR stunts, just like I could disregard your post as pointless bitching, but many things have changed in the game thanks to the player's feed back. Not everything has been done, as many people know, but to go to the other extreme and say that Arena Net doesn't care at all is not only blindess, it's plain and simple ignorance.
You do mention a good point, though. Everyone who says they demand a better answer from Arena Net because they have paid - actually, all you paid for was a game, and that you got. Did it mention, in the GW box or in the GW advetizement, that you would have an Arena Net representative to answer your every question? No? All it promised, for your fifth bucks, was a game, and that's what you got. And that's ALL you can "demand". Everything else Arena Net has done - from answering player's questions, to the festival, to evetything else - has been done because that's in their best interest, not because they have any obligation with us. When they think those are not convenient anymore, they may just stop all of that and not a single player will be able to demand more.
Don't overestimate your money. You bought a game, not the lives of everyone who works in Arena Net. You have your game, everything else is a bonus.

OMG what a bunch of damn whiners, first off about the tengu event, just because SOME of the GWG community disliked the tengu event, as they complain about everything that is handed to them but not on a golden platter, doesn't meanthe event was successful, she also is automatically ignoring EVERYONE Do Not Disturb= you can't whisper her, just imagine if you were a dev for a gmae that people whine about all the time because it is free and it doesn't give them everything they could desire, you would get alotta flames in your ears. There arer reasons behind what anet does, many of them we don't NEED to know. People have the right to say if the game they like is not good. it is better for anet to hear an unhappy person then to have people leaving for good! This way they are telling you something is wrong! anet can then fix the problem! if anet doesnot there will just be less people playing this game!
On that note anet has promised they will try to fix the problem! The ones to blame are those people who try to force pvp players to pve players! that is at the route of the whole problem!
Also Rpg players have a hard time trying to tell anet what would like in first place. they get put down alot too. It is not right!

Hi, sorry that I didn't read the whole thread but this is something I wanted to mention (that didn't seem to be mentioned in the posts I saw)
Yes Gaile seems to answer easy and positive questions, but which company HR doesn't? Its in the best interest for the company - and her job - that she keeps things positive and gives GW a better outlook. Imagine if she admitted that there were huge problems with the trade system and chat filtering?
Please also note that Gaile is just one person. No matter how important your question is... in the end if there are people spamming you pages and pages long you are bound to either: not catch it all; get fustrated; sort out which questions you want answered. Even if she gives an unsatisfactory answer she still recognized it. Post on a well known forum about the complaint/comment with a nicely labelled title and anet will get to it. Anet does definitely listen.
For example I quit the CCG: L5R (Legend of the 5 Rings) because I believed that marketing and the HR were not listening to the community - the whole marketing and advertising was fan based (they didn't promote thier product.. only the fans did) and the HR didn't reply nor actually read anything. In Guild Wars I can safely say that they are paying attention and doing what they can. Please note that everything cannot be done and addressed - all for various reasons - from feature addition to scam fixing. (One obvious reason would be if to add a feature they had to rewrite weeks and weeks of work; of course they will put that priority near the bottom of the list if its not very vital.)
This leads me to a suggestion: That ingame there be a BBS. Its easy to manage, easy to moderate, and secure. This way the whole HR/support team and deal with issues ingame and give support. Its an easy way for the support and HR team to have all matters in one place and answer easily without posting in more than one forum.
Sorry if I seem like a fanboy but I'm not trying to be... there are alot of things that Anet did and still is doing wrong but there are also alot of expectations and demands that are too high and unreasonable from the community itself.

people whining about a game they like is an oxymoron, if you LIKED a game you wouldn'tbitch and moan and groan, you would be happy, and personally I would be damn happy if half of you people left, more server room and less eyes/ear bleeding for me. You people surprise me, I don't get how any living being can take so much for granted, hell I don't get how people can TAKE so MUCH and GIVE so LITTLE, this is why we are destroying our planet, but I digress that is another topic, oh and sweetest this comes to another point, you say there are so many things wrong with them, go to college get a tech/PR degree and FIX IT, stop whining and do something about it, or STFU and live with it. One last thing, I would use an analogy, but they get misinterpreted, just because you PAID for something doesn't mean you can make demand of the person you bought it from, you bought what you paid for, anything else is fluff, DEAL WITH IT.

Like you my friend I'm at the entry lvl of the video game industry. Went to college for Game Art & Design. Decided its not for me and not got a steady job in customer service for one the biggest companies in the world.
I deal with people like this all day long. They never understand why its not fixed or why its not out yet. They don't care what it takes they only thing on their mind is "why isn't it here yet?"
I think companies have made this worse. If they would have just stood up for themselves and said "Hey, we are working on it give us some time. We are spending 50 million on getting this to you and taking a loss to do it." Then people might shut up.
I think more companies need more backbone and stop looking weak to their customers we would have a different reaction with things like this.

Yer not in the wrong for playing a game you payed for, but don't compare it to a game that is vastly more funded and you have more of a right to whine about because you are consistently paying for it. WoW=you have a right to complain, you pay for every patch and addition it makes. GW= no real right to complain, you only payed for the base game, any patch or addition is FLUFF.
In other news, I am fine with people casting Anet in a negative if they say something that has any real backing, also if they say it on a FANSITE they will expect to get smacked back by the people who are actually FANS, A fansite is for APPRECIATION of a game you are a FAN of, not talking crap about it, ok buh bye.

Let us speak - stop calling any dissenting voices flames or trolls. |
Yes, this is a "fansite" so the blind devotion of the cattle is to be expected. However without the people crying BS ... things would not be addressed. The fanatics need to realize that the people pushing for fixes keep this game alive ... not the ones that say fook it and move on to another game.

You're unhappy with Gaile and with the ANet treats your demands? I sincerely invite you to go play another game, preferably with a monthly fee. Enjoy the crappy community manager, the non-existing support, the awful updates, then I trust you'll see the difference.

You seem to me to be a lot like 19th century factory owners. They could do with their workers what they wanted to, and no worker could complain because after all they were being paid by the boss. In fact, you're worse because we're not even the ones being paid, we're the ones paying! Even if ANet would pay us to play the game we should be allowed to make suggestions... we are not ordering them around as you seem to assume. Of course I can't speak for anyone else, but all I wish to achieve is that ANet opens up a bit more to its playing community. I'm not trying to bash them... I like the game very much, but does that mean I can't suggest things to make me like it more?

Thank you very much. I quite honestly never knew, after a year of playing Guild Wars, browsing these forums, the official site... pray tell me, where does ANet tell us we have this option? ? |

See? Doesn't really translate. I was even just recently told that I'm obligated to upkeep this site because we started it in the first place.
You see the problem with all this is that it's human nature to find the fault and the flaws. And it's even easier to point out and speak these flaws on the internet when the only accountability you have is to hit the 'post reply' button or type a line in a game.
I don't know if anyone remembers, but Gaile Gray has stated that all the chats in game and her constant presence in this community is her choice. The devs thought she was crazy for wanting to actually do this. But she's persisted, and continues to persist despite criticsm. I don't know of any other game where a dev or community relations regularly comes across all the fansite forums (yes I know the arguement that a lot of games have official forums... but this requires even more effort), regularly comes in game to do chat logs and by choice at that.
And no I don't defend her because of the position I'm in, because they give me any sort of recognition at all. I have a small idea of what it might require to try and please the community while there are problems to work through. I'm not perfect (anyone who's been told off by me can certainly attest to that ;P) and neither is she. But if anything is obvious from this thread... it's that some like the way things are done and some don't. And that's just life.

Gaile Gray is a very nice person, and Anet does a great job for a no monthly fee game.
we shouldnt compare Anet To Blizzard games...god, Blizzard is the Sun and Anet is the earth if u compare them..dont espect Anet to do the same thing that blizzard do.Maybe we have the right to complaint but sometimes i think its to much.
and dont say gaile gray is a ****** cuz she will stop from talking to us someday. Here is a litle example of whats happening: Anet doesnt give us something...." OMG BURN GAILE SHES A WITCH". instead we should say thx to Anet for all that they have done for us. I remember wen i was playing Diablo2
i often went on blizzard forums, someday i saw some1 ask to fix a bug cuz its was very anoying, other people complained with him too.... the answer they got was STFU from a guy from the support team.

And again we get an oversized topic about gaile
Don't blame gaile grey everytime if you don't like something....
She's just as human as everyone else (maybe with some magic luck touch ) but could you awnser 100+ questions and while doing that keeping up with the chat channel? It's a hard job so don't blame everything on her.
If you don't like something just say it, but don't expect her to constantly respond to everything
A teacher on my school recently turned allmost crazy because he couldn't take all the presure, a sort-like case

I personally don't care about Ms. Gray one way or the other. She is not the issue any more than the PR guy is for Bush. If we listed all complaints She gets while in town ... it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out which ones are core issues. A weapon for your mini pet or some place to store the @!#$ thing? HELLOOOOOOOO which is really a pressing issue?

Junk I know what you mean, but there is a fine line between suggestion and bitching/whining/trolling/flaming suggestion is constructive, this topic basically said "Zomg Gaile Sucks, whatcha think?" It was an attack on Gaile Gray personally it was not, a I don't like this, here's how we can improve it. If I see a thread that suggests a way to improve I fgenerally don't bite back in said thread, because it IS a suggestion, these other topics are merely whining and trolling not suggestions otherwise I would see somewhere in the OP, "And here is how we can fix it".
Leprekan like I have said crying BS is ok if yousay here is how we can fix it, and it is not a direct attack on anyone. Just like the threads about the Ranger pets getting deleted(actually the pet one did tip on the edge of flaming, I about got involved),faces changing, and white blocks, and scouts armor. I didn't interfere with those because they weren't attacking anyone, they were merely noticing something, and t hey asked if it could be fixed, I understand they couldn't make a suggestion because they didn't know how but they were very polite in asking for a fix.
ALso ya know what you guys think I am a loser for aprreciating what I have, I feel sorry for you for the day when Anet flips a lid and say "F*** it, we're closing down GW." Then all of you guys that waste your time moaning about things will have nothing to do.
Oh and Inde, Great Job on the site, it has some things that would be nice, but all-in-all it's good. Keep on giving us a great site.
I still am adamant in the idea that this thread should be closed. I can hear the Wargs...X.X brings me back to the dang shiverpeaks..

Anyways back onto topic:
I don't see why this has become a 6page (and probably +) thread. 80% of this thread can be cut down because they are either:
-one line response of stfu appreciate
-off topic rantings
-a paragraph saying Gaile is great and appreciate (even though some of these posts are vaild and not supported by caps lock)
Just some points we should agree upon before continuing...lest people repeat the same thing over and over again (which will happen I suppose):
-Gaile is a nice person
-Anet does give support
-There are improvements to be made in GW, and in the anet support and HR team. (but there is always need for improvement)
-Some people in this thread have had vaild supported for thier arguements and should not be flamed for it.
-Even if this is a fansite it should also be a place for critque and suggestions. Not only ingame but for Anet itself.
-GW can only improve from the suggestions and critique from people. I often feel in fansites (esp. unmentioned net dot onlinegw sites) most posters are becoming too closed minded for any serious suggestions or critique. If all Anet hears from us is "your doing a great job" and all harsh critiques are flamed and closed down. Then GW will cease to improve.
Anyways I hope this post does not get too flamed :P. I just wish that some people in this thread will take 5 minutes to relax then post thier opinion instead of posting right away something that they might regret later.
Kijik Oni Hanryuu
Lol junk, I amglad you are seeing a little bit of my point, open mindedness is good. About the nerf thing, I raised hell after the MM nerf, I know what you mean. About the events, sure they aren't perfect but be happy with what you have..just because they have shortcomings doesn't mean that "ZOMG hallowen suxxorz now" Don't take things before granted, for all things will die and be lost in the end. Trust me I know what I am saying when I say that.
Synden, I know that Anet needs a little constructive criticism, but there is a right and a wrong way to go about things, say something isn't exactly appelaing and made a fix suggestion=right, OMG gaile and anet suck they didn't do it right, with no suggestion=wrong, Uh Anet, I kinda don't like how X feature works, can you fix it=fine, There is a big bug can ya fix it=right, OMG THIS BUG SUCKS F*** YOU ANET=WRONG. I am just saying those how they would likely be said. Also giving examples of the different scenarios.

I would like to note that anet does listen.
I was the guy to prove rank was useless and only promoted egos that affect pve players who just want to have fun in pve.
Anet came out with tittles, i don't agree with how tittles are done but it is a big hit with pve players. Now tittles make the that much more fun for people.
I just wish RPG player would speak out more but they only get put down!
Look at the scribe, gaile grey came in asking rpg players what they should write because anet needs ideas for rpg. Pvp players wore ready to put the idea down.
I also feel that gaile grey suports us rpg players too. I think she is the best in my book

I would like to point out one thing about the no monthly payment = not equal support thing.
There have been many games that have had no monthly fees and still manage to keep online.
Diablo
Diablo 2
Starcraft
Neverwinter Nights
Just to name some popular ones.
To not pay a monthly fee does not mean you submit yourself to a lower class support.
If you look at this from Anet's view:
Every 6 months a new expansion - $50
If you buy the expansion then - Every month =~ $8.33
If you do not buy the expansion you are severly behind in all features, skills, items, and special events. Most likely you will not play GW after awhile. - Every month =~ Cancelled account

They never understand why its not fixed or why its not out yet. They don't care what it takes they only thing on their mind is "why isn't it here yet?" I think companies have made this worse. If they would have just stood up for themselves and said "Hey, we are working on it give us some time. We are spending 50 million on getting this to you and taking a loss to do it." Then people might shut up. I think more companies need more backbone and stop looking weak to their customers we would have a different reaction with things like this. |
I think a lot of us just want a real response. A.net needs to stop ignoring the bigger issues and at the least tell us how it is going. They don't have to do this at all but if they want us to be happy, the majority non-whiners, then we need some kind of understanding of what is going on behind the green curtain.
