GW creators? Fetish for scorpions?
Rocco The Flipside
Yeah yeah, you did a great job and all that crap, but seriously, do you people have a fetish for scorpions? do you go home and think about the worse possible way of creating monsters in a "mystical world"? WHOA!!! A GOD DAMN SCORPION WITH TWO TAILS THROUGHOUT the whole frickin game! Is your company too low budget to come up with NEW IDEAS for monsters? Seriously, what the hell is you problem? Let me guess, you people will create a giant lady bug with 4 wings for the expansion? God, please balance out the monsters and get rid of the scorpions!!! I would say 64% of the monsters in this game are scorpions and there are only around 30 different type of monsters. Wow, I am very dissapointed. Great job making the worse possible monsters in the gaming industry. Come up with monsters that makes you WANT to kill them. It's almost a FRICKIN CHORE to kill these non-stop scorpions crawling from underground. For god's sake, Diablo has better monsters than Guild wars. At least they make your skin crawl the first time you play! Fire the person who came up with the two-tailed scorpion and hire a more creative and intelligent person who can come up with better monsters than two-tailed scorpions. Seriously, is it that hard? I'd prefer killing unicorns, monkeys, giant tigers, tribesmen! for hell's sake, get RID of the scorpions, it's just RUINING the game.
KuTeBaka
... Whats wrong with devourers? think of them like insects in the real world, they are everywhere.
AceSnyp3r
Have you been wandering around outside of Druid's Overlook? I felt the same way too after running into devourers every 10 feet
Eder
The game could use more actual variety in monsters, yes. I can live with the idea that there are three different centaur tribes who live in three different places and stuff like that... but when you look at the big picture, everything has a differently-colored twin brother that lives two maps away - and that's just cheap.
Devourers are particularly bad. They could've been spaced further apart through the storyline (like Grawl), made to spawn with other mobs (like Junipers), or at least gotten complete facelifts to make each type look different (like all the different Drakes)... but no. Every two maps you'll run into pack of 5 tan/reddish devourers after pack of 5 tan/reddish devourers.

they are insects!! you could go to africa and find a ant there, it would look the same as an ant in america or sweden or wherever.
drowningfish999
Yeah but the problem is, devourer start in pre-searing, and they don't leave until you get to the southern shiverpeaks. If you ask me that's a little too long.
EverBlue
I find them a chore to kill, too. I hate them, I hate them so much.

OK, ideas for big bugs. Some i have mentioned in past posts but here goes....
Giant chamaeleons that blend into the vegetation and cannot be seen on the compass. They grab unsuspecting players and slowly sap their health until it is killed by the remaining party members.
Medusa. She carries a bow and can fit the ranger class very well indeed. Her stare should freeze and pacify an enemy. (c'mon Anet, you can blend the spells like this!)
Scarecrows. Wandering blissfully through the fields of corn shoots, stopping to stare at the butterflies and haha! Gotcha! A scarecrow comes to life and beats the crap out of your monk. Necrid scarecrows...cool. We could call them scareromancers.
Yes, i was thinking about the Wizard of Oz!
Trees that are alive like in LOTR.
Rock monsters. Look like rocks and they beat on you severely when you get too close.
Giant ants. Millions of them.
Huge spiders, like really huge...bigger than grenth. Give them fangs that actually move and look terrifying.
Giant silverfish http://re2.mm-b1.yimg.com/image/471201458 like this picture except they should be the size of cats or small dogs. Let them nibble your feet because you can't outrun them!
Large bombadier beetles that act like their real life cousins. I believe they let out a sound and squirt nasty fluid. This could be poison, so it fits right in i suppose.
Ant lions. Say no more!
Robot invasions. Why can't fantasy and science fiction intertwine?
"Urgent incoming message from ArenaNet...robots are attacking lions arch. Please smack them down and retrieve the stolen supplies from them!"
"The charr hybrids have kidnapped warmaster tydus. Please find him. Last sighting of him was in a charr convoy heading North."
----
There are literally thousands of ideas that can be put forward and because of the game being a fantasy/mythology type of game...the only limits are imagination (and ArenaNets passiveness).
Where are the terrifying creatures that really make you crap your pants? High pitched and blood curdling screams that make you cover your ears.
Shocking moments as your character is ambushed by brain collecting hordes of demons.
Guild wars could have it all!!
Who knows...perhaps in the years to come, we may start up an expansion to be greeted with words....2 years later.
Ascalon is rebuilt, the forgotton are once again forgotton, the fire islands are a lush environment with sulphorous oases dotting the poppy fields and the exploration and colonisation of the new continents is well established.
However....we must defeat the new threat...... [The saga continues]

omg i'm so sick of scorps. they'r anoying & & boring. yes it looks like a scorpion. actualy the scorp in Clash of the Titans was scarier. & it only had 1 tail lol. yes scorps fit the theme of deserts, but so dont lizards & worms. i wanna see a dune worm in pre sear.
whats better then scorps?
spiders
smites
but a freakin scorp? boring as hell.
what i'd like to see for creeps, more
yaks
bulls
bears
charr
bandits lvl 24
gorillas
cave men
insect men (praying mantis, ant)
chameleon
medusa
scarecrow
silverfish r scarey
beetles
vamps
u should show the arrows sticking out of creeps after u shoot them. funny to see 54 arrows in a creep.
diablo has a lot of stuf better then GWs.
centaurs all look the same to me.

Oh look... a scorpion... and it can cast spells! Oh, and this one can steal life. Oh and this one explodes when you kill him. Just take the scorpions out of the game, or at least don't put them every ten feet. I rather get no exp and walk peacefully everywhere than see another damn devourer.
viet
almost anythin is better then a dam scorp.
the ones that cast spells, steal life & xplode when dead, those R the ones i like actually. cuz it makes u be more careful.

The devourers are everywhere for game play reason. The devs needed an enemy that would suddenly appear on the map. The only other enemy, that can behave like that, if I remember correctly is the spider.

What's more disturbing is the dev's apparent obsession over worms.... phallus shaped worms... that spits sticky looking globs... and elongates when you go near...
DrSLUGFly
okay dude... although I agree that the scorpions are far overused... you seriously need some medication, maybe prozac... or valium... morphine... I don't know... something to induce some calm, tranquility and perhaps a bit of unconsciousness...

Not that I dislike your ideas, as I actually like most of the enemies you posted, but these aren't bugs. Devourers are just plain annoying. 3 spawn every 5'. Warriors have it easy since they can just sprint past the dang things...
RTSFirebat
Well I for one will say I think the main issue I have with devourers is that they all look the same.... red or green!
I mean at least give them some colour based on their location.
But yes they are highly overused and never drop any good items... so sick of fighting them, knowing I'm not going to get anything worthwhile for my battle.

While one of my least favorite monsters, I don't have a problem per se with scorpions. I do think they could be "dressed up" (i.e. reskinned) as the world changes around the player. However if they are emulating real life, there is very little color variation in the scorpion world.

Id rather have scorpionzoids come out of the ground then have some kind of attacking flying thing that swoops out of the sky. Sure am glad they didn't add flying pests... then again I'm not fin the game yet. The other morning I had some werido beetle (not a band member) flying around my bedroom when I was trying to sleep and that was annoying. It's a good thing scarabs don't fly in to attack when the devourers decide to visit.

Just equip your Gold Furious Butter Sprayer of Fortitude and your purple Lobster Bib of Shelter and you'll be set

Ooo...here's one: A praying mantis....you know the females eat the heads off the males' bodies, right? Imagine one popping out of the forest and grabbing someone's head and munching away. Equals permadeath.

in my view, the original poster is erroneously scapegoating scorpions for what he should be blaming instead: the fundamental flaw of infinite respawning every time you enter a zone.
nerf infinite respawning, and PVE would be wonderful.
as it stands now, all repeating monsters are a chore to kill. scorpions are just one symptom of a systematic problem with the core game design

Kill scorpions.
Really the red or green colour change doesn't help. At least 5% of the males who play this game are colour blind, like me. The red/green isn't even visible. Bad idea.
Kill scorpions.
I'm sick and tired of seeing them everywhere. Every damn PvE area that isn't frozen. And I hate the snow.
So I'm stuck.
Snow, or scorpions.
Why not just throw the letter 's' out the window?
The Tomb of Primeval Kings is the only safe place, practically. Unfortunately it's a barren waste. Why not bring some colour to it? Or at least make that single colourful map be more frequent. I can't tell you how many times I've played Burial Mounds, but I have only played the orange/red one ONCE.
That's a tangent... back to scorpions.
They suck.
The rest of the game is great. Thank you developpers, I love you.
Please get rid of scorpions.
P.S. Scorpions suck.

Consider this - for one thing, soem areas have multiple missions. So - I do one mission - I basically get the rest of them for free bacause I've killed everything there.
Or, consider this - I have done my missions in one area. But a guildmate wants me to party up with him to help him with some missions. Now what happens - because I've done it already, there's no creatures there?
Wow - what a boon to the (already horribly overused and abused) Ascalon Taxi Service.
rwt2006
i agree mix it up or something, its always like 3 different types of scorpions attack throughout the game, make it random add something else. the closest thing they have would be the maguuma jungle with those other bugs that come out of the ground too

Not sure about where you live, but where I live, man-sized (or bigger) insects are not everywhere.
Yes -- the devourers need to be spaced further apart. Yes we could use more varieties of monsters. Yes the devourers should ahve different color schemes. Personally, I think they should be black in the desert...

Really, I like the devourers. You can make their models a bit more interesting, give them some more color variation, et cetera. That would be nice.
But... in the end... they do fill and important niche.
By the way, do they exist outside of Ascalon? I've never seen a Devourer the other side of Yak's Bend.

Speaking of flying.. Woudlnt it be fun to see some evil blood thirsty huge bats flying around and spanking you !
