Hello everyone,

I, myself have the same problem as most of you have (i assume that the poeple who will be reading this will have an intel video card). In this "tutorial", you might find some stuff that might get usefull.

So before i start, i would like to advise you that i have gathered this information all over the net. I will try to edit/update this tutorial as much as possible, but for now, here's the version 0.01, some gathered text that i will be editing shortly.

"Tutorial" For the Crappy Video Cards aka intergrated intel cards
=======================================

OK, I have a Toshiba Satellite A45-S121 with an (Un)Extreme Graphics 852 display and 512 MB sytem RAM. I was having tons of problems with my inventory screen, and after a lot of note taking here in the forums I applied a few fixes, and after about 5 hours of play time haven't had a single problem! Here's what I think fixed it, hopefully it helps everyone else who shares in my woes.

1) Go to http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDo...nload-8679.html and get the 6.14.10.3943 driver, and install it. (Posted by Knight Hound... thanks!)

2) Go to the advanced display settings for your adapter and edit the 3D settings. Change the memory footprint setting to "High" (it's probably at "Normal" right now). Apparently this forces the driver to constantly reserve the maximum amount of memory it could need. My guess is that the system was low on memory and trying to swap video RAM or something, who knows.

3) Go to the "troubleshooting" tab on the advanced display dialog. Move the slider down a notch. This setting I might try putting back tonight to see what happens, since I'm not sure what this accomplished. All I know is that it worked, so I'm including it. Steps 2 and 3 were provided by WonderDog, thank you!!

Lastly I installed DirectX 9.0c. Thanks a million Knight Hound and WonderDog, you have freed me from the dungeon that is my basement and allowed me to take my addiction anywhere!! ;-)

=======================================

First, let me say how new I am and excited to be playing Guild Wars, and I come to you with a fix to a common problem

I'm sure all you prospective buyers (who, like me, have Dell Dimension 2400's [there are a LOT of us]) are wondering whether your system can handle Guild Wars, and hearing the nightmarish bug stories has made you kinda scared to buy this game. Well, I am here to put your fears to rest

My computer (after an upgrade) has 768 MB of DDR RAM and Intel Extreme Integrated Graphics 2, an unworthy substitute for a nicer video card. I wasn't keen to chunk out 130$ for a new card, though, so I gave the game a shot

IT RUNS FINE WITH INTEL EXTREME GRAPHICS CHIPSETS, but only as long as you have enough RAM for your system (I'd spend the money if you don't have a good bit of RAM like I did before my upgrade). One of the first problems I ran in to while playing, however, was dealing with some ialmnrt5, and I feared I would have to buy a new video card after all.

I tried upgrading my drivers, but that only eased the problem a little. The game would still mess up almost everytime I tried to slide items around my inventory.

Then I read a suggestion to download an older version of the drivers for the chipset, and I did. I haven't had any trouble since!

Of course, this is all at the lowest setting, and the game runs (and looks, in my eyes) perfectly fine.

IntelĀ® 82845G Graphics Controller

This is the driver version I upgraded to in attempt to fix that didn't help very much

14.10.0.4020

So I rolled back the driver version to this one (running a search for intel extreme 6.14.10.3889)
6.14.10.3889

I haven't had much trouble since, save for a little lag in very detailed areas.

I hope I helped ease your mind, my fellow lowend system users!

=======================================

GuildWars does not support most of the Intel Mother Boards, espically 82845G on-board. I found this fourm post and applied it to my Dell 2.4Ghz, 1gb ram, On-board 82845G video card laptop and it works. This may also work on some of the other 828xxG on-board video's.

Ok i Just got contacted by support saying the the 82845G integrated graphics is not supported. So we can pretty much say with all honesty that NCsoft does not plan to make a patch for us.

However I was able to work out some kind of fix.

first of all download this great tool called 3danalyze http://www.3dfxzone.it/dir/tools/emutnl.htm
(this is also useful for SOME of the next gen games if you can't get them to run or install on your outdated machine)

Now have it open your GW .exe and check these boxes

http://www.ixtlanstudios.com/webimages/GW.jpg

I have spent many hours trying to get this to work and I have been testing this combo for about an hour with no prob. I can access inventories, and shops, select, etc without a crash.

I have noticed a few artifacts show up (such as a green square next to an NPC) but it is definately not severe, and I think we can live with it. Also on one occasion I got a wierd blacking out of an area on my screen. If this happens, just exit GW and reload.

Also if your text seems unclear, make sure to jump out of windowed mode in the options. For some reason 3danalyze will put the client in windowed mode (which it actually won't be, but it will say that it is). Once you put it back into resolution it clears up the aliasing.

Im hoping this fix will work for the 82856G guys as well, but i know it works for my 82845G, and im sure its probably the same hardware wise.

=======================================

I was getting nasty crashes 95% of the time when trying to drag and drop stuff in my invetory, and also when trying to re-allocate skills. It only seemed to go mental on my laptop when dragging overlay icons/sprites like the inventory items and skills, so after a bit of head scratching came up with this:-

1. Go to extreme graphics options - OpenGL.
Make sure memory footprint is set to "high" (this forces your card always to use 64mb of memory, rather than act dynamically, and is much more stable).

2. Go to your normal Display settings, then Settings, Advanced, Troubleshoot and drop the slider down one notch from the top (you can leave write combining on though). This troubleshooting setting is to troubleshoot issues with bitmap overlays (such as sprites, mouse pointers etc)... The area I had identified was causing my crashes.

Guildwars now runs flawlessly. I can drag, drop, and re-allocate skils to my hearts content. No crashes in the last 4 hours of stress test (compared to my usual 5 mins max!). Give it a bash and tell me how you get on!

=======================================

Hope this helps.. atleast someone o.o

P.S i will try to add credits in the next versions of this tut.

I can play Gw on my main comp whenever i want. however, in my laptop i had this same problem. I did all those steps and it stopped crashing . Only think i cant do is sell, every single time i talk to the merchant it crashes.. not a big issue since i can just use my normal comp to sell but i'd be good if i could fix it. Anyone has had this problem?

After reading this entire article I am not sure which option I should follow since I didnt really fall into any of those catagories. I put GW on my computer and can make characters but as soon as I hit the "play" option my screen flickers and goes blue. I can hear the game dialogue (when starting) and hear the GW music but cant see anything I then get this error message:

[Windows-Display Driver Stopped Responding]
The ialmrnt5 display driver has stopped working normally. Save your work and reboot the system to restore full display functionality. The next time you reboot the machine a dialog will be displayed giving you a chance to upload data about this failure to Microsoft.

The screen is all wierd and when I restart the computer it never displays a dialog to send to Microsucks =(. I really want to play! I am so bored with WoW now (which works fine on my computer) and I really want to get into GW aside from just looking at screenshots and playing around with the character generator all day.

My computer is a Dell Optiplex GX270. It has a Pentium 4 and 2.8ghz speed and 512mgb of ram. I dont know much about computers but I know that I dont have the video card it asked for on the box. (it is a slim tower and cant take the NVida cards and such they sell at CompUSA).

Is there anything I can do to play? The character generator works fine, I just cant play the game!

Give this part a try, you have to actively use the program so you can give it a try and not worry that it will make any permanent changes to your system.

ialmrnt5 is part of the intel driver so I highly suspect you have intel integrated video (as part of your mother board).

It makes GW playable with my laptop, I've used the instructions and GW can be played via wireless on my (845g) on board intel. It's not as no-where as pretty as my pc but still great if your on the go.

Ill post my problem. When dealing with inventory items my game will blue-screen crash about 85% of the time. Same with when i trade. whenver i talk to a collector, i get the ialmrnt5 display driver stopped working thing, o boy. And now, randomly when im fighting monsters, i get the blue screen crash.

I have a 82845G on-board i do believe.

Ive tried:
The 6.14.10.3943 driver from the given link. --It doesnt exist.
That 3danalayze. Game still crashes regularly.
I cant find anywhere to change my adapters 3D settings or anything.
I cant find anywhere where to edit Extrem Graphics options and open "GL"
Cant find the memory footprint thing to change

And i really dont wanna spend $200 on a new card that might not even work.

The Intel video card chipsets are not supported by Anet / GuildWars (most likely due to there limited direct x support) any low end gaming card and up from Nvidia should run Gw and other games fine.

I have been able to use this to get my dell laptop w/ 82845G to work but use it off and on so not able to do a "burn in" test. It did fix a lot of crashing that was happening.

Also give try this link: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...D=865&lang=eng

I think Intel changed there web page structure since that post. It should give you OS choice for 82845G (not any other's or the 82845 Express).

thank you, im installing it now as we speak. It seems to be working fine now (no crashes). w00t. But is there anyway to get the graphics to look better? It takes about 5 mins to load maps which really sucks. Even in PvP by the time i load the map my team has either lost or won. There are no shadows, reflections, or dreamy glows anywhere the terrain is usually square and edged. Would this be solved with another, better GFX Card such as the GeForce MX4000 128MB or the ATI Radeon 9550 256MB? Or is there a way to cut down on load times and sharp, edgy graphics?

I've been having the same problem on my home computer (can't bring my kicking-ass system home with me from university during the holidays ).

It was actually a lot worse to begin with, but after updating drivers and increasing memory footprint crashes are restricted to when I try to use the inventory screen (skills, merchants, and trade windows seem unaffected however....). The link to the correct driver version in the orginal post seems to have been truncated and doesn't work, so for reference, the correct URL is http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDow...load-8679.html

Unfortunately, taking the hardware acceleration slider down a notch causes EXTREME pointer glitches for me (it is in fact completely invisible about 80% of the time, and only 'flickers' on every now and then). Also using 3D analyzer with those settings seems to cause the game to slow down so much that it is unplayable I'm just fiddling about with it a bit now, hoping to get it sorted out. At least GW is playable, even if I can't use the inventory screen, so thanks to everyone who has contributed here, it was very helpful!

I'm having video issues, and Out Of Memory errors, with my Dell laptop. However, the video adapter is the:

Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family

I have two computers, so please don't give me a hard time about this crappy video card. This is my laptop, and I like to use it to play GW when I'm traveling for work.

My most humble apologies if this was posted in any earlier replies to this thread...I haven't seen a fix that applies to this adapter specifically.

Try adding -noshaders to the GW.exe short cut. It should disable the DX Shadder support and not stress the card as much.

tried the 3Danalyse program, and now i can play at school! problem is, it messes up the graphics a little bit, like the red/green highlight circles around characters bleeding, random black spots, and colour imbalance (everything shaded red, black, purple, etc)

but overall, it runs, and i'm happy.

ok go to this page:

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=94814

I have the same card and would suggest using the -perf -noshaders -nosound -heapsize xxxxxx (in that order)

where xxxxxx is 1/2 of your RAM (in MegaBytes) times 1,000 it tells you the amount for each of the common RAM amounts (except for ones higher than 1 GB or 1024 MB)(just figure it out yourself [chances are if you have that much you've been thru HighSchool or are in HighSchool now])

Edit: WHY, Moderators, WHY IS THIS NO LONGER A STICKY??
In my opinion this should go back to being a sticky, since this thread enabled me to play GW!!
