Mining, Fishing, Crafting? Do we want it?
Darksci
Im personally getting bored of GW. UW is getting boring, and PvP isn't for me.
Even raising another character is getting boring. But i love the skill system, and combat system.
But what I really missed was stuff like crafting, mining, fishing etc. I used to play two games a while ago called Tibia and Runescape.
Tibia was great because even though you'd have to wait for a spawn to come, in the meantime, myself and a few others would be camping at that place, and talking about random things, i.e socialising.
Then there was runescape, again i could do the same, except with fishing. I remember entering the fishing guild on World 1, and fishing at that place for hours and hours, the reason why i liked it was because I could talk to everyone else around there. Sometimes the odd auto-bot prevention system would pop up, i.e a Giant Fish would pop up and start smacking me across the head, but those who were real players moved away from these creatures and thats that. In the meantime, i'd be gathering resources to use.
Unfortuntely both games are annoying, because of the endless combat grind you would need to do, not the mention the massive death penality. In Tibia its 10% of your xp gone, and 2 skills lost.
Now back to Guild Wars.
Chatting in town is kinda annoying, because I'm 20, and most of these 'kids' just talk about:
"Hey baby"
"Strip!"
"Dance in 3.. 2.. 1.." <<-- Thats fun, but gets boring after a while lol
"Get lost"
Selling things in the game is just a joke, and so farming is kinda annoying. I've gathered so many things like a Barbed Spatha of Defence, 15-22, 15%dmg when enchanted, lengthens bleeding, +5 armor always. But selling that is just such a joke, that i don't want to bother to goto Ascalon Dist 1, and try to sell it. Hell, it took me 1 hour to buy a few warrior minor runes, because the text was gone so fast. - So farming isn't that fun anymore.
My guild is fun, we have a few GvGs, but PvP outside GvG isn't that fun i find. We also talk, but thats also limited since its only when certain members enter the game thats things liv'en up.
I guess if something like mining was included in the game - it would be fun, and wouldn't effect the overall system - because the only thing that would be effected would be material prices. Prices would probably be high at first, but players can always salvage as usual, but then prices will go down.
Plus if farming were introduced, it would probably be like:
"LFG Forming group to mine Iron in Shiverpeaks"
Then an 8 person group is formed
Then it'd be a nice alternative to what i usually do.
Today i had a bit of fun, only after showing two people how to farm. They got some decent drops, and i got mine as usual, but we had a good chat during several runs - and it was quite fun. Unfortunetely, they died most of the time, and my particular build requires creatures to hit me, in order to work.
I guess what i'm saying is that an alternative to farming creatures, missions, PvP and PvE would be more likeable in Guild Wars.

somebody mentione an RPG district which you might try
as for adding those to GW no thanks
edit
if bored put it down for a while which is what i will do
you are not paying for the down time so no problem
i expect there will be a large space between my stop time and chapter 2 but when chapter 2 comes out i will buy it
this is not meant to be an alter life like a true MMORPG so dont expect it to have the continued variety needed for continued play
BTW i also do not pvp and have never bothered with wasteing time trying to trade with the screaming masses
as for runes i buy and sell to the trader for whatever the going price is and dont worry that i am selling a superior death magic for a whopping 45 gold
Maxiemonster
If you wanted all this, go play Runescape !
DrSLUGFly
I was trying to get in before all the "GW ISN"T MMORPG" and all that crap started... but it seems we're teetering on the edge of that now...
I do want this... those who don't want it, don't do it. It in no way interferes with PvP and would add loads of depth to the RP aspect of the game which is what PvE is all about.
I don't care about WoW runescape or whatever, I dont' care about FPS, MMO, ETC. whatever. What I care about is fun. And this would add more options and more fun to the game.

Quintus
As long as they aren't required, I see no reason why these shouldn't be in. I would prefer that they fix all the things that are broken in the game first, but even if very few people like these things, if those people would get more enjoyment out of the game because of these things, they should be added.

there has to be some reason they dont have things like this (so far) that would have a negative effect on either the performance or cost of maintaining the game which would cost them more if they did it
what i would have on my wish list would be a genuine town or city to explore in fine detail not a few massive rooms
a castle i could explore/fight my way through that was big enough (number of room wise) that there would be 2 res shrines on each floor and a dungeon which would take the catacombs in one corner
did i mention lots of rooms of all types from storerooms to torture chambers to a tower with the best view in the world
you get the idea
i wont get it but that is what i would love
in the meantime i am having a lot of fun with what they have provided
Isis Snowflame
disagree i dont think they should be added...thats one of the reason I personally cant stand FF11

To make the game more like a job? No thanks! If I wanted a secondary job I would either A: Go get a job at wendy's flipping burgers or B: Renew my Lineage II account. Gw feels like a game and I wanted it to stay just that.

too be honest i think taht would be a good idea. help get you money. You see guild wars is boring fater you complete it twice. And pvp sucks after awhile. There should be something at the end of guild wars that you cna always do that is very interesting and money making.

if these things are added they should be voluntary and not have any meaningful game benefit since it was stated they were for social purposes not get ahead in the game purposes
Sekkira
It wont happen. ArenaNet stated LONG ago that crafting/whatever will not be in this game.

The reason I think ppl are missing out is the fact that this game is called "Guild Wars" for a reason its supposed to be a pvp or in this case a gvg orientated game. Yes I think it's a little lacking in the PvE aspect seeing that at release you were to play thru the pve aspect of the game to unlock better skills and weapon mods for that very pvp aspect of the game.
I honestly think that all they really need to do is 1) add more item content. 2) unnerf the farming, since the reason they nerfed it in the 1st place was because of pvpers. now that that is fixed why punish the pvers. and 3) release the free summer thing or chapter 2 already. this game was basically a year old by the time of release to those of us that played since the E3 for everyone event back in 2004. The game hasnt changed much in that time.
anyways thats my 2 spits in a bucket on that topic.

I dunno about fishing, but there is a profitable crafting economy.
--
Purchase bulk materials at cheap prices.
Do a run to a crafter.
Make some more valuable crafting items.
Sell them to the trader for a small profit.
Repeat.

Easy as that.

enough 40`s add up

The game has changed dramatically since E3 last year.
How do you suppose they'll release Chapter 2 and/or the summer release right now? I mean, the reason we're not getting any updates is cause they're finishing up work in the summer update. God knows if they've even started work on Chapter 2. These things don't just pop out of nowhere.

So you want to grind away....not many people do, its boring. The only reason people do it is because they get addicted or are 5 years old and thats all they know.
And I cannot believe you are compairing
to guild wars.
You are truely weird. You know you could rub your hand on sandpaper if you wanted grind.

yeah runescape is a horrible game. i also can believe you are comparing runescape to guildwars.i hated having to grind fishing and cooking to 53 for heros quest.
i think mining and crafting might be good as long as you dont have to grind to be good at it.

GW isn't really the place for these things. Unless you want to give up your secondary to be a miner... bah, silly. Good concepts for other games, not GW.

meh, i played runescape for about a year, made millions, got into legend's guild, blah blah... then the day Guild Wars came out, i quickly quit my membership and started running around in Ascalon you know why? cuz i got sick of the RS economy. people in GW are complaining the economy sucks, but i say it cant be better. in RS, you endlessly grind, doing very boring things. sure, at the beginning its fun when lots of people are around, but as your skills get a lot higher, not many people are as good, so ur mostly alone. in GW, i never farm. i've never seen the need for money, since items dont matter nearly as much as skill, where as in RS you had lvl 60 pure noobs pking lvl 80s just because they had better equipment and grinded longer. GW is about having to use strategy, not wasting time.
besides, GW is mostly about PvP, so you i agree u cant really compare it to RS, since in guild wars, pvp is organized chaos with max of about 24 people fighting at once, where as in runescape, you can have 100 vs 100 clan wars where its so crowded that u cant tell whos on ur team (hated that...)

Thing is - this wouldn't effect the game in any way at all, except increase the resources obtained. As said, crafting materials have already crashed. So this wouldn't effect PvP, PvE or anything.

Oooh, we can't have it in this game becuase it uses a good graphic's engine! :/
I don't see why anyone wouldn't want things to do on the side. Sure, the box says that the game is about PvP and I'm not asking for a horse betting track in the middle of Old Ascalon, but it would be nice for a deversion from farming monsters and farming people and farming missions and farming FoW and farming UW. (To not have to always do the same thing over and over agiain)
Atleast a fun and easy way to regain refund points and maybe PvP redeam points (Like Balthazar Points). That's what I want.

If not doing missions or questing it would give us something to do.

I would like to see a market place, not just a trade channel but a place where you could put the item on display with a asking price, it would make buying and selling so much nicer. As for fishing or mining ugg no thanks skining thu that could be handy.

first, i'm totally for the marketplace idea
now you have to stop and think for a minute here. whats the use for fishing? in runescape, fish are food, and u eat them to gain health. but what use does food have in GW? now mining, i can see the use for, but crafting is kinda repetative. the crafter npcs are there as a gold sink, and besides, it would probably require a certain skill level to make certin things. but there are two problems with that: first, a cross-class attribute is kinda weird, and seconds, making the crafting attribute go up by exp would ruin the point of attribute refunds, which is a big part of the game. and if there are no attributes for it, then anyone would just craft drocknar armor as soon as they reach post-searing ascalon.
now i'm not aginst new addition that would add more to do other than missions and quests, but i would like something that is different and new from other MMOs, like the rest of GW.

I'd like a market place as well. I have some a ton of runes and such I want to sell but don't have the patience to sit around in a town constantly "WTS blah blah" in the trade channel... So give me a place people can see what I'm asking and buy what they want, hassel free. Kinda like a huge place people can see "your" vault of items you want to sell.

Let's face this game, at the moment, is just
Play a few missions untill you beat the story
Do alot of quests
Cap elite skills (What? Can't find a capping group? Too bad, go do something else)
Go to UW and FoW (What? No favor? Too bad, go do something else)
GvG with your guild once a week or so. (What? Not the GvG day? Too bad, go do something else)
Go to HoH. (What? You don't want to wait for 2 hours to make up a group that doesn't use their teamspeak channle and everyone leaves with the first person who dies? Too bad, go do something else)
Go do team areanas (What? Can't find people good enough to team with? Too bad, go do something else.)
Go do Random areanas. (What? You've goten bored of the same four maps all day? Too bad, go do something else)
*SARCASIM*Oh, sure we don't need things for people to do on the side.*/SARCASIM*

Yes, that is the way the game is "at the moment". I would like that to change.

the part of this game that's supposed to be entertaing is the PvP aspect. so if you find that boring, i suggest you go play another MMO and stop complaing about GW.
use henchies...they're usually much better

obviously, ur guild isnt very active...
its not the maps that matter, its the people and builds

Yes, I've played alot of every genre of games, but even games like Battlefield 1942 have more than 8 maps and many more with mods. I couldn't stand doing the same ones over and over again in the same way, no matter what type of person is playing.

pve isnt supposed to be boring, but im just saying that pvp should be the main focus, hence the name Guild Wars. and who said anything about 3 yrs? i'm just saying that gvg is fun, and can be one of many things to do while w8ing for new updates
