Level Cap
Dave III
I could live without Uber-equipment as long as I get bragging rights. Sure, The Flaming Sword of Holy Vengance might only be as good as any other level 20 sword, but dude, it's The Flaming Sword of Holy Vengance. You can tell 'cause it's flaming. And the only way you can get one is by meeting this ridiculous challenge, like defeating the Certain-Death Temple with only a wooden spoon and a rubber chicken.
It's that type of unique item that I figure (or rather, hope) the bulk of the expansion packs are going to offer: not so much 'cause they do more, but because getting them will be that much harder, and will therefore be that much cooler.

Hhhhmm...good point. I'll give it some more thought.

Personally I would want a SUPER CHICKEN LAUNCHER bow that is no better than a regular one, but people will say "WTF? whered that chicken come from?!?!"
Nova
I agree. The "uber" equpment needs to be a reward. However difficult to acquire, because it is lame when its just liek a common rarity... I mean, people will start a new cahracter and people bwil be like, "Whats up?" "I'm going for the DBSoF (That meaning the Dark Bastard Sword of Fire. It would bel iek nothing. I hope they figure out a good compromise for the economy. I think that it would be nice if there were some good and rare items to acquire from doing quests. They don't have to be ALOT better then what you already have, just as long as it is better.
lllCo2lll
Sorry to bring light into the topic again, but lets hope that is what they are doing about special items for pve. I'm pretty sure Arenanet understands a lot of the issues and most likely will make it so that pretty much everything is balanced... uh actually I have nothing new to say.... I'm just pretty much repeating, but I am severly bored out of my mind wanting to test out the beta..... Its 3 days away....
Nova
Then hush up. What do you mean "bring light" ... But like, i hope the FINDING of the tiems are for Pve but they help for PvP/GvG

Yeah, you work your way up the mountain to get the sword, and once you get it you can use it to beat people up, but they are just as capable to go up the same mountain and get a sword of thier own... What would make it cool would be the design (a nifty ram's head, or flames/smoke, or whatever) and it's rarity, and what would make it rare is the trials and tribulations necessary to get one. Sure, lots of people would get one, but how many could?
That's how it works in Dave Land, anyway. ^_^
Dave III
Nova
It would be awesome if you quested for equipment and could personailize the item. So this would somewhat diversify everyone. because i mean there are really not two exactly identical swords you know? THAT would be awesome.
Dave III
From what I've read, there are dyes, so it's possible to change colors. I know I'll be grateful not to have to wear the same armor as everone else; it's like, nowhere for my image, man. ^_^
Beyond that I can't think how to customize things in a way the programmers can do without a lot of bloat on the client. I'd be willing to bet they're willing to listen to serious suggestions, though. ^_^

Nova
Well, like, maybe naming it? and altering its appearence here and there to your liking? Wouldn't be that difficult. Any little thing to promote individuality would be nice.
Kiwi
Even with dyes, somewhere, somehow, someone will be a clone of you. Escpecially with 1 server. Actually I think AN will add one when GW gets over crowded. I can't imagine 200K+ on a server at any given time. Even 100K is scary. FFXI only gets like 2~10K at any time.
Nova
Wow, thats alot of people. They should have like 2,3, maybe 4 servers to begin with, eh?
Kiwi
Told you all! But maybe it will work if Tyria is large enough so that people don't say "I can't move, people are in my way!"

Well, ok, naming it wouldn't be that hard, yeah. But altering it's appearance beyond dyes might be more tricky. I'm thinking in terms of altering the model, just turning a flat blade into a curved one would increase the polygon count quite a bit. Unless you had a different idea?

What about adding visual effects to the weapon? (Daisys falling as it swings - "Daisy Cutter", Snow flakes - "Frozen Wind", Water dripping - "Crying Blade" )
Dave III
Oooh... I like those... The "Things Falling Out" thing is along the same lines as I was thinking of with "The Flaming Sword of Holy Vengance": applying the same "fire" animation as the torches pro'lly have to the sowrd itself. I've seen some games do it, it's not that hard. Or maybe blast out a cloud of lightning when they hit, just to make the point. ^_^
I like the "Sound on Impact" thing, too. Could I get a "Squeaky Hammer?" Or maybe something REALLY silly like arrows that cluck like chickens when they impact... ^_^
That's a good idea, this could have some real potential... ^_^

Loviatar
if you check there are HUNDREDS of servers world wide
it is nice that we are not locked into only one of them but there hundreds coordinating
clear now?

notahero
Aye, what Loviatar said. I was under the impression that there are a great deal of servers, but they are almost networked together into one.
Kiwi
But how could that work?

having level cap on 20 is a good idea
you can have fun faster that other rpg games...where max level you can go is like 99 (remember...the game cant have infinite amount of level..they gotta end at somepoint too)
only difference will be:
-time you need to spend in order to have "fun"
-max mana and health point (digit wisely)
having your mana pool around 9999 is nothing if one magic costs you 1000 to cast it.
having health around 9999 is nothing if enemy can do like 2000 damage on you.
lets compare...
guildwars:
max mana around 30....lets say 5 to cast a spell
you can cast 6 times (not considering regen)
health point applies same deal
other rpg
max mana around 9999...lets say 1000 to cast a spell(but for some super deadly ultimate magic=5000 to cast)
you can cast around 10 times
health is also same deal
so what is the "real" difference....
i need to spend around 10 hours to have real fun in guildwars
i need to spend around xxxxxxx hours to have some real fun(same fun as guildwars) in other rpg

dungeon siege has secret weapon called "chicken cannon"
it a cannon that shoots chickens...with chicken noises
so technically...it is from dungeon siege

I didn't mess with 'em much, I had too much fun with the Xena/Sailor Moon Frisbee of Doom.

unless you can gain level 20 from level 1 within 10 seconds
once character reaches 20...real fun time
when thinking about other mmorpgs, yes...they do have more magic than guildwars
"But" most of them will be useless once you reach high level.
when you are level 99 with 9999 health, level 1 healing magic which will do like 10 hp healing is useless.
in guildwars...we use "all" skills "strategically"
Kiwi
/praise Another great post from Dave III.
I think a chicken launcher would suck. It's mean to throw chickens, maybe eggs, but not live chickens. And killing them for throwing, no no no.

A surreal moment for an otherwise serious game, I guess.

I think there was another weapon that turned the target into a chicken, for something like thirty seconds, which could be an eternity in those death match games

game called "armed and dangerous" has some hilarious weapon too
Kiwi
Still...it's not nice, no matter the game.
Weezer_Blue
A.Net is just fine with whatever number of servers they have. There have been 400k people on at a time without massive shutdowns (like WoW) and I don't suppose it'll get any worse towards release.
Kiwi
I'm not worried. I just was pointing out it might get a little crowded.

guild_swordsman
man a mmorpg is a game were all types of ppl play right so y is there a lvl cap lvl 20 inst that high if there is 1 it should be 50 or higher and if rookies have a problem with guys killing them they should not be in a guild fighting them u know so i think u should get rid of it
ApOcAlYpSe
LOL guild_swordsman why would you ressurect a 2 month old thread about something that is in a sticky??
mtxed
Im only 60-65% done the game (at Quarrel's Pass) and I'm already W/MO19.25... there's still a huge chunk of the game left for me and I'm already near max level? They either need to make it harder to level or increase levels to 30.
And they should make missions harder for people who only do missions and not quests, I dont see the point in doing missions only just to get fast LVL20

Quite honestly, you probably suck.
You're doing missions I beat at lvl 13 as a lvl 19. If you're whining about it being easy, it's cuz you're moving too slow.
Would you prefer it to always be easy? Would you like to always be 5 levels higher than it takes to beat a mission? Somehow, that seems far more boring than actually beating a mission with skill/intelligence rather than going back and gaining 5 levels before proceeding.
Just my 2 cents.
And thaum: it took me 82 hours to beat the entire game just as a rough idea, I spent some of that farming and PvPing so don't think it'll take THAT long if you're only focusing on questing.

No, the level cap doesn't need to be raised ever. Keep playing the missions, they get much, much harder then the ones you're on.
