dang you could make a killing selling all those to the traders and maybe it would drop the price they ask for those. I've maybe found 4 black dyes in the two months I've been playing...

Nice pic. I have quite a collection of dyes, including many blacks, myself. I think its pretty presumptuous to assume that you are single handedly causing the massive price fluctuations in black dyes, but it certainly contributes, and I am sure that lots of people all collecting dyes and not using them or selling them does have an impact. They do drop much, much faster than you are hording them, though, so it isn't ALL you . . .

Now all the other people that are hoarding Black Dye go and sell it while you are offline.
They make a ton of gold and you have Black Dye that is worth less than a plat each.

I realise that possibility. I figure, the only way it could happen is if Anet decided to dramatically increase the supply of Black Dye - which will screw me out of my investment. By the looks of it the Black Dye drops are getting more common - so maybe that's in the works. If so, then that's another slap in the face to honest Capitalism and one more step towards Guild Wars Socialism.
Still, I thought buying up Black Dye was more stable than buying up, say, Ecto or Sup runes. And it is.
I'm still waiting for the "Ecto bubble" to burst. Maybe I can start to trade Black Dye for Ecto.

Through 400+ hours of play, with 2 characters ascended, since retail, I've seen one drop, and it wasn't assigned to me.

If you were lucky enough to be on right after the dye/rune traders were brought up, well then you could have bought 100 Superior Vigor Runes for 200g a pop.
Perhaps what the OP did with dye, we have a perma stash of most of the crap from the traders in our guild.

i have perhaps 400+ hours and 4 months of playing, still have never seen a black dye drop, rarest was a fiery dragon sword, assigned to me.

couple nights ago, I think it was wednesday night, the trader was selling silver dye for 476 gold each....I think it goes without saying that I purchased as many as I could afford(48)...

I've heard the most common place to get black dye is pre-searing, I've found a black dye in wizards folly recently.... Is this true?

inever looked at the black dyes i had last night, do they now have "value" in the identification, usually it would read 1gp, yours is over 100.

The only Black dyes i found since i've been playing (middle of june) were in pre-searing. I got 2 or 3.
Now that i'm in post, i find tons of green, orange and some silver, but nervar saw another black.

Hehe, I have found tons of black dye. Odd thing is ....Most of it is pre-searing lol. Actually thats not true. Because I am in a guild with RL friends and they dont have in home jobs like I do I find myself playing most of the time By myself. Mercs are great. Defently seem to be better then PUGs. Anyways back on to what I was saying. I do most of my missions with mercs and because I do this I actually seem to find alot of really nice things. I know its not as good as soloing but currently I havnt found that the Necro/Mes Minion master is good at running around trying to find stuff. Anyways the place I find most of my dyes seem to be in the area where the ranger trainers are in pre-searing up there where all the skales are before you go into the trans to the other town. ( yes I have forgotten their names ). Seems skales love to drop them...

I still have never found a black dye after going through the entire game many times. I just end up finding a ton of silver dyes. I got 3 silver dye drops in a span of probably less than a minute once on a farming run.

OK - Here's the update.
The dye merchant was buying for 7.8k so I couldn't resist and sold off 82 vials of black dye for a cool profit (most of them I bought when it was under 5k). So I still have 50 vials.
Let's see if the price of black dye starts to drop now. I wonder....

yea i belive it is more common in pre searing.. ive gotten 2 there and 1 in post searing.. ive only been playing for like 140 hours

I don't care about black dye, but some moron on europe is constanly buying every single vial of silver dye. Seriously, i haven't seen the trader sell one for about 2 weeks. I'm pretty sure as soon as he does sell them, they are at 10 k or something like that.
