Once upon a time..

To put an end to this once and for all..

No, you do NOT need a credit card to play Guild Wars, register an account, OR to maintain your pre-existing accounts. Both the retail game and the expansions will be available in stores.

No, they will not charge your credit card randomly.

Guild Wars does not require a subscription fee, nor a credit card to play.

The full EULA agreement is listed here.

Please notice the distinction between "Game Account" and "Master Account." The credit card should only be necessary for the "Master Account" or in other words, the PlayNC account. In addition, YOU authorize PlayNC to charge your card, so unless you sleepwalk with your credit card, or have a bad habit of clicking "accept" on every window that pops up, no one's even going to touch that credit card until you allow them to. More information on PlayNC accounts can also be found by following the link provided above.

As for being 18 and over, those who are under 18 can have their parents sign. It doesn't say "No one under age 18 can play" -- only that an adult of age 18 and over must take responsibility for the account, and in this case, it's your parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s). So relax, ask your parents nicely if you can play Guild Wars, don't do anything stupid and/or illegal, and enjoy!

Stop panicking, everyone. Everything is ok, promise.

The Joint :p

You can't blame them for wanting to discourage people from using the system otherwise than directed. It is their "house," so to speak. And we are there as guest by every stretch of the imagination.
