Okay, so I did UW for my first time. Team of 5 trappers. First off, I have to say 5 trappers and all the traps going off at once thus decimating everything. Pretty sweet. However; the drops.
We killed over 100 monsters easily, and only had 5 (one dropped halfway through or so). Spent 2 hours. NOTHING. Got a req. 11 13-24 storm bow, some other crap items. One guy got 2 electos but thats it. In 2 hours, even the one guy got only like 20K. I can get more than that by chest farming.
Did I just have a bad run or did UW really get nerfed THAT bad.

Yeah, it was pretty much nerfed that badly. Most of the time, I usually clear 3/4 of the underworld, and get 1 ectoplasm or 1 max damage "cool" weapon (eternal/storm bow/etc) if I'm lucky.

It's becuase someone on your team had been going there all day without zoning somewhere else, probably. I got 3 ecto in 3 15 minute runs yestarday so I don't think it's nerfed

hmm oh wells. I wouldn't mind UW if it had EITHER of two features:
1) More worthwhile drops
2) Shorter time to complete or something
I don't mind UW and I love to go kick ass with everyone, but it kind of committs you for a while. I don't want to be the person that just leaves and screws my team over (since you have to pay 1K - not that big of a deal but still). 1-2 hours of crunching, AND KNOWING you have to put in 1-2 hours can get a bit tedious. Or maybe I'm not finding the right team.

My most recent UW trip was a flop; we didn't get past the first area of ataaxes, but in the group 3 ectos dropped total. Sounds like a run of bad luck.

A challenging PvE? Right, and that's why people can solo the place. Done right it's not hard, and if it's not hard...then it's all about the drops.

Some of the major points to FoW and UW are the quests. You get 5k exp for the first quest and 10k+ for all the others. You can use this vast ammount of EXP to unlock most of the skills in the game via switching professions.
And that's why I go to UW with my W/r.
It does get to be a hassle when a skill cap costs .7-1k, though o.o

It takes like 5 minutes to do a griffin run tops, which gets me about 3k exp and 1k gold from merchant selling. It takes 5 minutes just to get a full group of UW people together. Then another 10 minutes just to do the first quest (if we're lucky). Plus I'm sharing drops in the UW and demonic remains believe it or not do not sell as much as rare goodies that griffins do.
Skill are getting expensive after using my first 112 skills points... ugh.

I would do UW more (just because 30-40 traps all going off looks so damn cool) and its fun to play with people, but I wish it was a little easier to leave. You kind of have to plan and lure (especially with trappers) and it takes a while. I feel like a jerk ditching a team when they really do need the extra trapper.
I guess I wonder more or less why people do the UW and FOW for drops. I guess the only people that really truly look for drops are soloists.

The underworld is more about Skill points then anything else. the experience you get from quests in the underworld is Uber... 15000 exp is an EASY one to get. and you can do it time after time after time... every time you go in fact... Plus the underworld is a really nice sized map (mission sized basically). you probably only go to the north east for site runs. that's only a small portion of the realm. Here let me Illustrate this...

Why? cuase few people go there thats why. its out of the way, and has lots of creatures to fight... (sorry I have not found a good map for fissure of Woe yet) and making one only about 20% there...

I dunno, I play FoW and UW daily, and usually spend at least 3 hours in both. Now I play that much and I just got my first ecto drop today, but I've goten plenty of other drops and Im satisfied. Problem is since Shards and Ecto are RARE and can only be goten in UW and FoW people expect Every Single Drop to be one of these RARE items. the FoW is something to really work for, most people want the Shards and Ecto just to sell em. So if you do get a rare drop consider yourself lucky, really guys.
PS FoW kicks the shit out of UW, I average 3 shards and 2 purple items and a random dmg chaos axe Every Trip there.

I agree.. its just so hard to get a party together anymore to go there. all anyone ever wants to do is go to UW for ecto. I'm like sheessh.. its been slow going on the map making because of that as well...

Well if anyone is forming a team to explore the entire UW/FoW count me in. Just today I did the betrayer quest that the forgemaster gives in the fow... man, the area you go to is awesome. I'd love to what else that place has to offer.

I've only been down to UW and fissure once, and I must say for all of the aataxes i only got really crappy items, nothing special, but I must give it a more proper run through.

I do UW just for the drops and for the fun of it (solo). I got 41 ectos, one ruby and 2 saphires the last 2 days (maaaany runs) and a total of over 600k exp. But i only got 2 golden items (one healing ankh - sux, and a nice eternal bow with max dmg & 29life).
I like to do the runs for the moment, but it may get boring after a while...

The reason ive not been is we hardly ever have favor when im online. But when I do go I will listen to the people who are experianced so we dont die fast.
Maybe you are just unlucky in your choice of pug, or you are too impatiant to wait for a decent group to form.

Yep, farm UW for EXP. First 5k Mission, the Escort Souls Mission, and the Terrorwebs outside near the city of souls Mission. That's 25k in roughly 30-35 minutes.

ah, nice map... I am glad some people made one, that save alot of trouble. I was going to do it, but now I guess I can enjoy it without too much work. IF someone can label the area of the monster that spawn, it would be great... and even more, some monster data... that would turn it into the ultimate UW guide.

(I just ended up buying the rest haha) now I'm back at 35 ecto, and saving up to get my guildie some armor !Anyways, I have only ever found TWO rare drops. One was a pretty decent smite staff, and the other was an eternal bow with +14% dmg mod. Yum. Definitely worth the wait in my opinion.
I really want to say to that person who dies at the smites, DON'T. The smites are often what I get my ecto drops off of, and they are the only things that have dropped rare items for me :P Patience helps.
