Ok, so me and a friend are just hanging out doing some low level missions; I'm leveling my pet (zomg level 16!

) We are doing "Gates of Kryta". About halfway through it we hit the drakes. As you may know, this was once a farming spot. I can tell you that Ive killed every drake in Gates of Kryta at least 3 dozen times, and I haven't gotten anything worth auctioning or selling to more than the merchant. The first drop my friend gets is a MAX ENERGY req 9 gold flame artifact with +5 armor while casting! That made me a little mad since I never got anything close to that good on these runs, but I got over it and was fine with getting my spiked crest (12g btw). The next drop he gets is a rare air staff: +4 insightful and +24 fortitude. My drop was a 9-17 white air staff with no mods. WHAT THE HELL KIND OF BALANCE IS THAT? Anet needs to fix this seriously. I cant make money if my best drops are worth 50g!

For the reference:

-My first gold item was after 480-some-odd hours of play:
Shocking Shadow Bow of Pruning (worthless)

-And I was happy to get a black dye drop 520 hours into the game!

Please fix this, as someday I will have the money saved up for new 15k armor, and I dont have another 2080 hours to farm the black dye I need.

farming is overrated for income. i've made 3x the money in less time by other methods than farming.

i have like 40K, 2 black dyes and 3 silver dyes saved up in my stash without farming, running, or begging... its called saving up money, simple concept yet seems hard for people to grasp

salvaging materials and selling everything you find after killing everything in one area usually can net you a a good 1k or more in profit. Solo lower areas, have fun with it, wealth comes slowly for some, definatly for me but my farming methods produce about 1k an hour on average.

I have maxed out storage with 1000k after playing this game for under 2 months. I have never run anyone for money, ebayed, nor do I play incessantly and farm for items (though I do farm for exp, and if a good item drops, then all the better). I just trade. Works for me! Perhaps if you didn't spend your money on 15k armor, learned the trading system, and then alotted that capital to use in trades, you would be able to make your money grow much faster. Just a suggestion.

I just pick up and sell EVERYTHING. I use my salvage kit and sell salvage things...mostly to traders but occasionally to other players. I have over 100k in my stash and nothing that I'm dying to buy. I am shunning the Fissure armor as too expensive the same way I shun Ralph Lauren dresses in favor of a similar and just as nice looking dress from Ross (discount designer store).

But saving gold is a seemingly alien concept to a lot of people. Buy armor in Ascalon and Ventari's and the Forge. Good enough and lots of time to save gold. Buy weapons that are 1 pt off of max damage and you're set gold-wise.

Drops are randomly distributed. Deal with it. What profession are you? If you really insist on farming, choose a better place and go alone.

Even better than that would be to ban anyone who thinks that ebay is a legitimate answer. Changing the mechanics of the game to bypass the content wouldnt hurt either.

Well i was earning like 50k per day just buying selling stuff, but the economy is down, and its hard to make money now since everyone already bought weapons for themselves. Now i farm, and i think its kinda fun. I don't boring farm where i get one build and hit the same guys over and over, i always make new builds try to get new spots etc. making money isnt all that great compared to selling that i used to do, but its not bad. I learned that money drops are the best way to make money from farming because average item drops is only like 50, while money drop is like 150.

Thank you for pointing out that misstype, Savio. No, I don't need black dye, but I would enjoy having it in less than 520 hours.

Also, the reason I was with a friend was to have fun. I get just as bad drops solo farming, so why not enjoy it?

I haven't bought a single item/weapon, there's no need one can go out an "adventure" for them and/or get some very nice collectors weapons from the desert. I have the collectors sword/axe from the desert and collectors bow from Mineral Wells now and I've found great upgrades for them that my Axe and Sword are Fiery Long Sword or Battle Axe of Defense both +15% w/enchanted (customized +20%) and both with +5 armor. Didn't cost me no 100k or more. People who are patient must pay the price, people like me who are patient and work for what they get save lots of money for other things like 15k armor.

I also got a full set of Monk Superior Runes from the NPC merchants for under 20k, soon I will have a 105/55 monk as well and will get all his gear from the desert as well from collectors.

That's why really the economy doesn't bother me except for the merchant prices on Superior Vigor and Superior Absorption, but, if I play long enough I'm sure I will discover these on my own and save 100's of k as well.

And you wouldn't believe what people are paying premium gold for these days, I've made 1000's just standing in a couple of towns and waiting to see it, WTB ????? (heh I'm not telling you) and I have a slew of the items in my vault and make 5k a set. Haha this game is easy and there should be no complaints about making money. If you just pay attention to what people want and stock up on it.

Its actually quite reasonable (not that i ebay or anything)

see, if u farm for 24 hrs, ud be realllyyyy lucky to get 500k, i mean, if we all farmed for 24 hours, we'd get like 50k >.<
However if u work for 24 hours, u can prolly get a good $30-40 income.

Keep an eye out for max-damage/max-AC items with low requirements, these can easily be sold for good money back in Ascalon City. I found a max-damage longbow yesterday with 8 requirements and sold it for 500 gold in about 5 minutes.

Yea, I've made over 700K gold by just spending time on the trading market, and buying and reselling and salvaging... Didn't farm once =)

Not hard to grasp, just something that isn't taught to our young these days. But in defense it wasn't taught in my day either. Money management is very important. But many parents don't teach it to their kids, they don't teach it in schools, so your on your own.

And many of the people who play GW are kids still at home. God I envy you guys and gals. No bills, no worries. You don't have to worry about money. Enjoy it hehe.

But the game does expose peoples' weakness with money management. Here there is an unlimited influx of money, it is not limited like in real life. So, you have room for error. If your broke in this game you have to evaluate how you take care of your gold.

It's a good exercise for real life. Learn how to be tight with your money in an enviroment where it's easy to come by and you will do well in places where money is tight to come by.

boy thats just sad, i can clear the entire gates of kryta mission solo in about 25 minutes and walk away with at least 3k, and i usually get at least one or two good items as well, just got a 5:1 vamp string yesterday, so there must be something really wrong with you, or its a big conspiracy against your drops or something

When selling I work Ascalon City first, then Lion's Arch second. As a general rule, the greater percentage of high level characters you have in a district the more difficult it gets to sell 'average' stuff, simply because they already have better than average gear.

Consider someone on their second/third/fourth character playing ranger for the first time. They have plenty of money from their other characters, but they might never have bothered saving any of the bows those other characters found. So when they hit 8 marksmanship they are quite eager to buy a max-damage low-requirement bow.

And I agree with Numa, being in District 1 in Lion's Arch or Ascalon City is an almost nauseating experience if you actually try to -read- the massive channel spam. This is, IMO, the current biggest design issue with GWars and hopefully we'll soon see -something- that lessens the unpleasantness of trying to buy and/or sell items. Buying/selling is clearly one of the major activities that people do in GWars, improving the mechanics of it would make a lot of people much happier with the game.

I,d like to see a 150 gold drop! I have never seen more then 35 i think. And never gotten a purple or gold drop. 60+ hours and i got like 4k. A i never buy expensive armor or weapons. So If you getting 150 gp drops Please show me a location.

Ok:

#1: Don't farm drakes. They've been nerfed ALOT and were never worth much anyway.

#2: You can buy black dye from another player or the trader. The price is low again, but IMO it looks like crap on the 15k stuff anyway.

#3: If there are threads on the forums about the frog, read them. "Soon stuff of value will be easier to come by" or something like that. Like we really need whine threads on here about issues that are being addressed.

Eh, people spend time working for fake money. Why bother with that fake money in the first place? If the fake money can lead to fun, but its not fun earning that fake money legit, and you are willing to pay for fun, paying for fake money = paying for fun. And buying any video game is paying for fun. (I don't eBay BTW).

Drops are luck. Clearly it isn't horribly broken if good stuff dropped in a low area for your friend. It's not the biggest crime in the world that I don't win the lottery. It's luck. It's chance. Granted, I wish the odds were better, but if max dmg perfect weapons dropped all the time, what would be the point in having them?
