If that's sarcasm, I'm amazed (though I shouldn't be, LOL!). Everyone has been -begging- for "world events". Here's one and it's high time. Let's enjoy it before we tear it apart.

Consider it a beginning. Maybe if it works out, the bonuses and changes will become permanent. I wonder if they're doing this to "test" out new balance issues perhaps? It'd be a grand opportunity to see how any changes they implement might balance/unbalance the game.

I'm intrigued by the promise of balance changes, but oh my, this is disappointing.

Edit: Also, whoever decided to name it the XTREME PVP WEEKEND (with X-logo) needs to be shot. Really, Arena, you've fallen quite far recently but I never expected you to stoop that low.

So this weekend we'll be able to unlock a skill or two per hour? Might actually be enough to make faction farming worthwhile.

I'd like to complain about this. They say all, but what about arena and team? Only people who will benefit aren't those "starting a new PvP character". It'll be those in the established top guilds, and what not.

They should make 1.5-2 times the faction for arena and teams just so that the majority of players can at least have some benefit. Right now, it's like, wow big announcement, only concerns the top 1% of PvP players who already have a billion faction from holding altar or what not.

I think this includes team arena but not random arena.

Isn't it possible that this is a "fast" way to test out new skill balances by "luring" top players/guilds back to the arenas and into battle? I'm just wondering since they indicate that that's part of what the weekend is about.

If things balance the way they hope/plan, then maybe the skill changes, if not the faction earning, will remain permanent. Possible?

I'm just awaiting the skill balances. Until it's a permanent Faction increase, I'll stick with unlocking items/runes and go through PvE for skills.

So any predicitons of Nature's Renewal?

"High level arenas" includes both the Competition (Random) Arenas and Team Arenas. It excludes the Shiverpeak Arena and the Ascalon Arena. New players entering the Competition Arena will recieve the 5x faction increase.

PvP Extreme Weekend = Beta Event Weekend: The Next Generation. We're given a weekend of better gameplay, and then it's back to faction grind...unless enough people give positive feedback, of course. At least we'll finally get the balance changes everyone has been asking for (hopefully).

well if this is the much waited news is then it sucks tbh. I think everybody was hoping the update would be here by now. But i guess only the PvP'ers are getting a good deal at the moment. Hope they won't let the PvE'ers wait to long or i'll be very annoyed.

I have just finished reading the current news at guildwars.com.
and wouldn't you know arena net has made a pvp extreme.

So of course the first you think wow thats great.

But some1 like me who thinks business knows otherwise.

It appears Arena Net is realizing that their servers are having a lack of players. Players that are extremely valuble in a MMORPG. Mabye it's just me but doesn't this sound like a way of recovering from lack of players on guild wars. you see Personally I could care less about PVPX When all I care about is this Summer Update.

So really mabye instead of bribing us to play guild wars they should correct some of their mistakes as well as the glitchs in the game.

You see when I bought Guild Wars back when it came out a minor rune were like 300g a piece. Now with their "new and improved rune traders" we can thank arena net for making them worth 30g. No wonder people want to farm and use bots to get gold 'cause its Extremelly hard to get gold now! All because arenanet thinks there fixing things.

Give me a break.

No wonder why I see people say this game as become crap lately. I wouldn't pay 20-30 dollars CDN for any new expansions for guild wars.

But mabye one day Arena net will look at some of these forum posts and see what the people want. Mabye then they'll improve tis game. Mabye...

The whole goal of this pvp x is just to get more people active again plain and simple.

Perhaps before everyone flames the devs and dismisses the upcoming weekend as useless, it should be given a chance to see what it will bring. I'm always astounded by people who trashmouth something without knowing exactly what it will be.

I know, I know...fanboy, right? NOT. I know the game has problems that need -serious- attention but I think that this may be a step in that direction. I can't know for sure but I would guess that ANet is going to watch the way that things pan out this weekend to see if it's viable to leave the changes/skill balances/faction 'bonuses' in place permanently. What better way to do that than to let masses of people try it out? Sure, it's probably a 'cheap' ploy to bring back players who've wandered off to other games but, if it works, if it brings players back, what's the harm? Much more good will come from it than ill, I'd say.

Truly, patience -is- a virtue and so is letting something happen BEFORE writing it off.

I don't see how you can see this in any way as a bad thing. It's an obvious and reasonable way to try some changes out and see how the community reacts.

Be nice, maybe they will give it to us forever with the summer update if things go well.

So none of us think as well as you, Guild Wars is a MMORPG, and a lack of players is a good thing.

I'm looking forward to it just for the balancing alone; now if I could just delete that last character that's holding 20-some stuff, I'd be set!

you might also note that the official site for Anet makes a flat simple statement that this is NOT an MMORPG but something different

of course they only made the game so what do they know?

Prowler, GW doesn't have the subscription model common to most MMORPGs today. I think they'd profit more from people not playing actually

  1. I'm glad they have finally commited to balance changes. Instead of "it's coming, it's coming" hoopla, it is nice to finally know the changes will be in by this weekend. They are long, long, long overdue in my opinion. I do hope the next time something like this that makes the game boring and one-dimensional is fixed more expediently. Of course, this is based on the assumption these changes address that. They'd better.
  2. Guild Wars Extreme? Yeah, dude, it's like so crazy and wild and extreme to the max!!!!!! I got a good chuckle out of the name.
  3. As for the event itself, I think it is a great idea and has the potential to bring a much missed competitiveness to GW. I hope the promise of increased faction and balance changes perks the interest of those that have fallen away or are currently waning. See you all in the faction farms. May the best farmer win (and let's have fun doing it!).

Thanks, Aniewiel, it's nice to see your enthusiasm and your open mind about the event.

In a way I guess it is a form of test for the skill balances, perhaps. We're rolling out skill rebalances and we will definitely be looking for feedback during the weekend. We think it's a pretty nifty idea: Fun PvP, extra rewards, and a sneak peek at what is to come!

Oh, and I wanted to share this, too, for those who may have changed guild recently: We are working on new features that will encourage and support cooperation between guilds. You can expect to see an announcement about all this in the near future. In the meantime, for this special weekend event, you will gain full Faction for GvG play, regardless of the period of time you've been a member of your guild.

Hope to see you there!

(Oh and yeah, we're having fun with the name. *rough voice* This WEEKEND, PvP Extreeeeeeeeeeeeme!!!)

Can I use faction to finally buy that *cough*updated*cough* 15k tormentors armor set, you know, the only one that hasn't been updated yet. Yeah I know, I'm a smartass. Just not a PvP fan, hell I don't even have anything I want to use faction on. Unlocked everything I want.

Will the whining ever stop?!

I'm not into PVP myself, but they're rolling this out (skill rebalance and Game Event in one) as well as new content for PVE. This is good news. Why? Because this just shows they are in touch with their players, they listen to us in the forums, and they fix what needs to be fixing (maybe not as fast as we would like, but at least we know they're on it).

So where's this negativity coming from?

Uhhh yeah, isn't that the general idea behind such special events? You make it sound like promoting the game is a bad thing. Will this event get a lot of people to PvP? Hell yeah. Is that a good thing? Hell yeah.

What about Tombs? Is Tombs a high level arena or is this what is meant by Tournament?

Also I know the lion arch arena... where's the other level 20 arena?

Forgive the noobish questions, I'm new to PvP (only got into it a week or two ago)
